I think I'm just fine being eligible to vote, because I had over 100 posts on a former board (hosted by the elite before these boards existed), am a 2-time final four finalist in the VA Kart tourney, and have a few badass times in Mario Kart 64 along with 9999 VR in MK Wii. Edit: Yeah I also destroyed Wonn in a 1 vs 1 semi final match in 2008, and eliminated PYL in 2009 :) |

Sure, you played SMK in 1995-1997, but do you really identify with today's SMK players? Have a hard time believing you do, as you haven't posted there in the last 2 years or so. Basically all these are for is to be able to say "Sami won most of the SMK crowd, the tally being 20-4, but Fried took MK64 by a slim margin 19-18." at the end of each match. They're not to show who's good at what games or how much you contributed to them, it's more of a gauge of where each player belongs in the community. In other words, these categories are based on social characteristics, not competition-related achievements. Originally we were going to give each person only one category, but a handful of people really are a big part of more than 1 Kart game's community. However, to make everyone feel included, everyone gets at least one game on their list, even if they haven't been around since 2003 or never post/play it, or something. Do you feel like you identify more with Dave Smith, April, Joe Bernier, Guillaume Leviach, and Florent Lecoanet; or Kevin Booth, Finn Berger, Cooper Lovera, Myles Bukrim, Nathan Stinson, and Pier-Yves Lemire? Just judging by who you've participated at meets with, I'd lean toward the second group of names which is why you're listed as Kart 64. Flo: No. |

Post by David Wonn on 05/17/10 at 18:22:40 ^ If the players I identify with are part of the criteria, then yes I would tend to identify with the latter group you mentioned, although I think Kevin, Nathan, and some others would consider themselves as retired SMKers too. :-) If recent activity means more, then technically I don't have any recent time trialing activity in any of the Kart versions and only minimal activity on the forums. My main activity in recent years has been the kart meets, and I've been doing both SMK and MK64 in all of them so far, but the meets have simply attracted more MK64 players than SMK players. I am equally happy playing either game with anyone. I'd play other Kart versions too, if the difference in controls didn't hinder my ability to easily switch back to SMK or MK64 on demand. In the end, I guess it's your call. I'm either with the "mid 1990s SMKers" or with the "late 1990s MK64ers" and some of those people happen to intersect in both groups as I do. Maybe I am just stuck in the past.... |
