Everyone has seen Marty. Marty is locked up in a cage. Not going anywhere. Sure, most people don't know how to unlock him, but they've seen him.

But Bread... come on. He's elusive and mysterious. Hardly anyone has ever laid eyes on him. Even Susan hasn't seen him and had to draw a fake picture for the news update.
The first problem is that to see Bread you need to play time trial on Moo Moo. That already rules out 99% of the MKW players; 50% don't tt and 98% of those that do don't play MMM because it reminds them of MMF (the horror!).
While Bread pops up on every lap, he only does so only for 10 seconds at a time and always on the opposite side of the course from where you are. So you need to race so bloody fast to cover half the level in 10 seconds just to get a glimpse of him on the horizon before he disappears. Few mortals are worthy of even seeing Bread, let alone unlocking him.

Actually Marty is immortal.  You never see him eating bread in MK64, even if you watch him in his cage all week, yet he never dies.

you can eat bread.  you cant eat marty without breaking your teeth, and my teeth are quite valuable to me.  end of discussion.

and besides, i did unlock marty, and it took all the fun out of the game.  being able to get -.01 on any given race i wanted..... no challenge whatsoever.  bread pwns.
