I hate how all these pre-release tournaments don't even let you get ten minutes of playtime in to at least partially adjust to the physics. All you can do is hope that everybody else in your area is garbage. I dont like the Wheel personally, i dont think any MKDS players mainly will like it either. It feels all weird after being so used to playing normally, the handeling is horrible too. I was in 1st on my second attempt but then when i was cruising towards the finish line i turned around to tell my freind i had won (moving the wheel in the process) making me hit a wall and ending up in 6th in the end. :( I was pissed off :-X But meh, the wheel sucks IMO. And when i tryed to MT its like the kart just hopped back out of the MT, sorta like it does when you have a broken R button or something. Hopefully the Gamecube controller will make it better. Im still buying the game for sure. |

I had 1:40:66 and i was in 1st place from 9:30 -3pm but then.... in the last two hrs two people managed to beat my time becasue they got very lucky on items lol, the bastards got stars and golden mushroom while they were in 3rd 4th in the race and i was like wtf. But i had few crack at it after, and i almost beat them again (no help from items) but couldnt pull through because if i wasnt hit by a lightening bolt it was blue shell lol, oh well that's grand prix for you. By the way i participated in the Portsmouth GAME, and the winner was a pretty funny guy called Matt or Dave (can't remember) and his time was 1:37:XX. He put up a good fight and he plays super competitively in load of other games so he was a deserved winner. Comment about the game are it pretty good from first impression, wii wheel is gay fullstop, and i managed to play on the mushroom gorge track at the end of the tournament when the people who were running it were in the back getting there stuff :P. |

With the wheel it seemed to make my MTs face the wrong direction quite a few times, might just be lack of experience though. did you try to do any wheelies on the bikes? I forgot about them whilst I was there, and the staff never mentioned them either. |

Everyone was talkng about me and trying to talk to me, even staff were trying to talk to me also I heard comments in the background like "that's the guy who is 1st". I was just playing it down telling them it's not over yet but they were saying no-one will beat that time. I wasn't put under a lot of pressure so probably could have beat my time if needed. I felt that was a big enough gap as I was watching most of the day. No-one came close to my time after i got my fastest after my 3rd attempt. After a few hours i started messing on and was only playing to stop the people in my race from getting fast times. I was starting to do tricks. The wheel isn't very good and the mts were so hard. I managed to do a few near the end after I saw a guy doing them and thought he could beat me, but he didn't. There were a few with big mouths thinking they could beat it but gave up after a few attempts. At the end some japs came in and I thought "shit" but they didn't take part and only watched. I'm happy as I get to play the game for a whole day now before the finals. I get a copy of mkwii (I'll already have a copy so it will go to my youngest brother), £250 to spend at that mercedez place where the final is and I get to take someone with me to the final (my girlfriend as she sat all the way through). All paid for [smiley=lolk.gif] Unlucky to the rest of you. |

They said they didn't and I said go to it and it will help you. Maybe they will join. Most people wanted to play in my race. Don't see why because beating me doesn't mean beating my best time. Being in my race gives you less of a chance! Anyway it was fun near the end and we got talking while racing. Never been to anything like that before. |

I had clean laps with no1 using Blue shells or Lighting Bolt or anything but i blocked a red shell with my green shell and i do loads of wheelies!! I also got a time of 1:37 first and i got a 1:35 after the 1:31 lol Also i had a another almost clean run but my friend YES MY FRIEND blue shelled me at the end lol BTW every1 had to use the wii wheel... so no1 did powerslides a guy attempted it but he wasnt good at it well no one was... and u cant snake on MKWii... so no1 did that.. You can get battered with items then another time you won't. They pick you up? I heard they pay for you and I was going to get the train on Friday night. They said they might pay for a hotel but they weren't sure as it's not them going to call me. They pass the results onto someone else. When u initiate a drift u will see only see some spakrs coming fomr the wheels if u are turning in the same direction as the drift or the joystick is in the middle, if u counter steer the mt will stop charging, therefore to charge an mt on the straight you would theoretically need to start skid tunr very shaprly and hope u manage to generate up to blue. From my judgement I would say at present that ssmt will be very hard and most likely not help full in the game. I managed to do one ssmt but it took so long to get it to blue that when i eventually let go i felt like I lost time racing and even went a bit on the sand. Those are my views though we dont know until more people have tried it out. :) |

The first players will raise issues like shortcuts etc. and since we have many well respected karters from the UK, who could give the first input ideas for the site and community. I think it would be very exciting at this point to know who currently lead this game. Also this is the time to recruit as many players as possible. since most starting players will search for information at the very beginning of the game. when a game gets older, it often gradually drops in audience attention. And this is also good for the recruiting people for the other MK games. |

The kart turned too much and I didn't gain any time, so I tried turning in the opposite direction from my slide and it simply cancelled the drift, which is kind of lame. This game really doesn't want you to use MTs anyhwhere other than a corner! The worst part for me was that the organizers were assholes, and refused to let me have another go, even although the queue was only small. >:( That's Glasgow for you. I should have just got right on a train to Edinburgh but due to the 'no intoxication' rule I had little motivation. Playing video games is very boring to me when I'm straight. This time Nintendo seem to have gone out of their way to remove SSMT and I must say that the handling in this game feels like a step backwards from MKDD and MKDS. Almost like SMK handling. I know it can't be certain until we have played the game for some time, but it looks like SSMT is actually gone, at least it won't save any time to do it. The MT only builds when you turn into your slide. If you turn too much in the opposite direction the slide is actually cancelled. :o Stunts and wheelies might be used instead but that is no substitute for SSMT :( I hope that I just picked a bad kart (I used Koopa in his standard kart) and there are others in this game which will get the sparks easily enough for SSMT. |

They are going to buy me return tickets for me and my gf and a night in a 4 star hotel near the event place. Should be able to eat etc and the bill will go to them. I will leave Friday 3pm and arrive at 8pm. They said they would email and I need to take that with me. I must have heard him wrong as I thought I would have got it by now, but it would make more sense to send it once he ordered me the tickets and the time etc. |

Title: Re: UK Game Stores April 5th Post by P@UL on 04/13/08 at 15:22:02 I reached the semi's (last 8). There was 8 heats to start off with on Wario's Goldmine and I managed to win my heat. Only the winners went through. This was played on a huge screen. There were 4 tvs above the main screen with each karters face on so people could see them. Also 4 racing style, padded seats with 1 - 4 on the back of them. There was a presenter , it was all recorded. It was like some sort of TV show, along with a commentator (the guy who does the f1 commentry). Mercedez from Hollyoaks did the draw to see who was in who's race. There were these big lights changing colour on the count down also. The semi's were played on a completey different screen and a newly set out area. This was twice the size of the heats screen. The crowd were all behind us on seats, the cameras were there, switching angles (we could all see on the screen what they were recording) but when the race started it only recorded that. Tiff Needell was the presenter for the semi's and final. He went through each of the players to talk to them with the mic and after the race also. ---------- How I got put out though was ridicolus. It was on the DK snow level I had the leader in my sight (the guy who won the final) and passed him on lap 2. Then it all went wrong for me. I got hit about 3 or 4 times, then continued to get hit even when I fell into 3rd. I felt like I was the only person in the race. I'm happy though..I know I didn't play crap, just the luck was against me! and people saw that. When I went around the last corner, that's when the top 2 finished. I had the final winner and this 14yr old kid in my semi match. So it was a pretty tight semi compared to the other I feel and anyone could have won it. Final was on Mario Circuit. The guy who won shouldn't have even won. The 14yr old kid was coming up to the finish line and got hit with a blue shell or something, then someone else was coming into the finish line and he got hit. Leaving way for the guy to pass them both while they had been hit right on the finish line. He couldn't believe his luck. While the 14yr old kid look so devasted. Winner was 28, I was the 3rd oldest. Only 2 teens reached the semi's. Maybe the pressure got to them. All in all though probably the best experience of my life and very nerve wrecking. Playing on camera and in front of all them people. Err Jodie Kidd was there too. I also got to sit in this sporty Mercedez while it flew around this course at 100mph, and take some pics while sitting in a few in the show room. There's so much to say about it all. But I won't ramble on anymore. I'm not sure Joey made it through the heats? The players there were really good and I knew it would be settled by items. We all got a copy of the game (already had it) and a £250 voucher thing for a Virgin experience day which I'm going to sell to make a bit of money from it. I got interviewed as well. I think all the winners from the heats did. The hotel was nice but very expensive! Want to know anymore just ask. I've proably forgot a few things. I hope they publish this or something. I want to see it. |

I shouldn't feel to gutted but you can't help but think what if i did that and didn't do this and stuff like that. Everytime I improve on the game at home makes me think why coudn't I have played like this. The game was fairly new to us all then I suppose. Tiff asked me what my strat was going to be and I said I don't have one, it's going to depend on what items you get, so it's all kind of luck really. I just proved it to them by what happened in the final. Also my girlfriend said someone behind her in the crowd said the final would be down to one blue shell. They were spot on! EDIT - Ever played while a commentator was screaming your name? It's very off putting lol. |
