Title: About 50/60 Hz Post by KillerMapper on 02/28/08 at 06:56:35 You know all that the Wii can handle 50Hz and 60Hz mode. So will you add 2 categories in the site like for MKDD? Also the Wii have another mode, the "HD" one (it's not really HD lol). Is this mode different than the 50Hz and 60Hz too? If yes, do you will add one more category? |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Ostro on 02/28/08 at 06:58:30 It was mentioned in another topic, there should be 2 rankings then. HD is just better resolution, no speed/framerate change |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Macaque on 02/29/08 at 06:00:11 Has anyone considered that there can't possibly be any speed difference between 50 and 60Hz for this game? Why? Because MKWii is online. Think about it. How could a 50Hz player race a 60Hz player if the games are different speeds? It wouldn't work properly. It would lead to no end of strange situations in online races. It is possible to equalize the speed of 50 and 60Hz (Sega used to do it) but Nintendo have absolutely no history of doing this. Too much effort for them to optimize the game for 50Hz. Therefore I'm guessing that MKWii will be a 60Hz only game in Europe. |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Ostro on 02/29/08 at 06:10:23 Is Mario Strikers a 60Hz only? If not, question answered |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Macaque on 02/29/08 at 09:22:14 It turns out that Mario Strikers EU supports both 50 & 60Hz modes. This indicates that there is in fact no difference in speed between 50/60Hz. How else could a 50Hz player play wi-fi with a 60Hz player? It is also worth mentioning that European Wii games do not have a Hz selection screen like Gamecube games. The Hz is selected instead from the Wii settings menu. This is further evidence that there is no gameplay difference between 50/60Hz on Wii games. It's the same game; it is only the screen refresh rate that is being changed now. Two charts might not be required after all :) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by KillerMapper on 02/29/08 at 09:56:57 I hope :) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Ostro on 02/29/08 at 10:17:36 Either that way or it is slower and you're forced to play vs. other 50Hz players. Let's hope there's no difference at all, only for the eyes :) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by chesting snacker stelzig on 02/29/08 at 10:18:29 I played wario ware smooth moves in 50hz at one point and it felt slightly slower. I think it depends on the game :) For online there is a chance that 50hz people just only match up with 50hz people, but i don't know. I guess there's a bigger chance that at least all online games are the same speed and different screen refresh rate as Macaque said. It could be tested pretty easily by matching 2 people using different hertz up online. :) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Husky217 on 02/29/08 at 10:36:23 I don't think there will be a speed difference because of the downloadable TT ghosts feature. It wouldn't make sense for an American to download a Japanese ghost that was done at 50Hz, then see it finish at a different time in 60Hz. It would have to be the same speed to make any sense... unless they really separate 50 and 60Hz for everything. Edit: Nevermind, I have no clue what I'm talking about [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Ostro on 02/29/08 at 10:46:15 Japan is 60Hz too and you can load 50Hz ghosts on 60Hz games without any problems (at least I did so on MKDD) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by chesting snacker stelzig on 02/29/08 at 11:15:56 Yeah there is no problem with playing 60hz ghosts on 50hz and vice versa. The ghost is just slowed down/speed up as well as everything else in the game (it just shows the same frames faster so duh :P) |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Moritz on 02/29/08 at 11:46:10 I was thinking about it too. But I would ask why will we have rankings for Mario Kart Wii on this site if we gonna have official world ranking in the game? Moritz |
|
Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by chesting snacker stelzig on 02/29/08 at 11:48:10 We'll most likely have more stats on this site compared to the wi-fi rankings. :) |
|
Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Ostro on 02/29/08 at 11:53:55 + Matchups and all :) I think Nintendo will do something like showing the top10 of each track only. |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by DarkRoy on 02/29/08 at 11:58:40 Who cares about online TT rankings? Considering how bad Nintendo WFC is, it will take just a month or two to have them full of fake times. |

The wii has had online for a very long time now. No signs of any type of hack has appeared yet. |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Moritz on 02/29/08 at 14:39:35 Sorry, but MK Wii will not be the first game with online rankings, lots of games have this feature, and all is working fine. Moritz |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by Astr0 on 02/29/08 at 14:43:31 I think Nintendo will do something like showing the top10 of each track only. I think you're wrong there. Didn't you see that screen shots of hundreds of Miis on page, and if you move your cursor of that Mii it's time and name appears? I do know of some hacks for the Wii but I'm unsure if it affects online play. |

Based on others games, they will, just a top 10 or 20 and the 10 top and bottom of ur record. But based on that shot, I hope MK Wii will be diferent. Does anybody here played Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games? Moritz |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by DoPe RiDe? on 03/01/08 at 22:53:51 They might not have been hacked because no one wanted to hack them. If no one plays the game to know that you have an awesome time (although hacked), they're not going to want to the bother of hacking it. Theres been heaps of games which have online rankings, but none of them are very popular.. MKwii will be much more popular, so we might see some people actually trying to hack the leaderboards unfortunatley. With the wii homebrew scene getting bigger and bigger each week now who knows what we can expect. So its allways good to have this site to fall back on :) I really doubt there will be any speed differnce, its online after all. I play guitar hero on 50hz somtimes and dont notice any changes in speeds. One big leaderboard FTW! ;D |

Title: Re: About 50/60 Hz Post by chesting snacker stelzig on 03/02/08 at 03:50:43 The online rankings in wii games can actually be watched in game and are pretty popular. Not only that, but just hacking gameplay to win would most likely still happen not just rankings. I think the PSP version of moh (which IS being hacked) contra the wii version of the same game (is NOT being hacked) shows that it is easier said than done. |
