Title: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by Brutus on 01/27/08 at 11:30:49 I don't know if mafia is a game any of you have played, but it's fun and easy to play on a forum. Basically, there are 6 roles, and three teams. At the beginning, everyone is given a role. Nobody knows who eachother are, except for the mafia. The mafia know who the other mafia are. Good guys: Villagers, Inspector, Bodyguard, Hooker Bad guys: Mafia Neutral: Werewolf The object of the game is for each team to kill everyone on the other teams. The first stage of the game is the night. During the night, the mafia confer and pick one person to kill. The werewolf can also pick someone to kill. The bodyguard can protect someone from death. The inspector can find out someones role. The hooker can fuck someone and stop them from having a night turn. Everybody's action should be sent to me through PM. During the day, everyone votes on someone to lynch. After everyone votes, the person with the most votes will die. If there is a tie, nobody dies. When someone dies, their role is revealed. How night actions will progress; For example, if the mafia kills the bodyguard, he picks to protect someone, and the werewolf decides to kill the person he protects, he dies but the person is protected. If the hooker fucks one of the mafia, nobody gets killed by the mafia, even if there are more than one. If the hooker fucks the werewolf, whoever they decide to kill is not killed, but the werewolf kills the hooker. I am thinking of making a 15 person game, if there is interest. The roles would be; 5 Mafia 1 Bodyguard 1 Inspector 1 Hooker 1 Werewolf 6 Villagers Everyone playing would have to be active. Each night turn would last a day and each day turn would last a day. All votes to lynch must be in the thread. Thoughts? Interested People: Leafgreen386, isthatagoodthing, chilicheese, king clark, mattniss |

Title: Re: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by leafgreen386 on 01/27/08 at 11:39:33 !join Thanks for showing me this on aim, brutus. I don't normally check this forum. The only problem I see is: Quote:
It's supposed to be a majority vote. So if there's 7 people, 4 need to vote for one person for them to die. If 3 vote for one person, 2 vote for another person, and 2 vote for a third person, the person with 3 still doesn't die; someone has to change their vote so there would be a majority. |

Title: Re: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by Michael F on 01/27/08 at 11:58:30 Unless I'm missing something, I think the mafia would have a huge advantage over the villagers, and the werewolf would have a huge disadvantage. It doesn't seem like a fair game. There needs to be either more villagers or less mafia. And there should be more werewolves, or make the werewolf harder to kill. Also this game seems to have a lot of luck, and doesn't seem very fun. |

Title: Re: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by leafgreen386 on 01/27/08 at 12:06:15 It's actually not as unbalanced as you think, especially with the addition of special roles like investigator, hooker, and bodyguard. The werewolf creates an interesting 3rd party threat, which I can't say how much it helps or hinders anyone in particular. The original mafia rules actually employed the same 2:1 ratio, found here (http://web.archive.org/web/19990302082118/http://members.theglobe.com/mafia_rules/), and that game had no special roles. |

Title: Re: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by Michael F on 01/27/08 at 13:18:57 I just read the original rules. The original game is better, imo. There are 2 big problems with Brutus' game (and probably more, but I'm too lazy to spend more time thinking about a game that I probably won't play). 1. Being able to confer is a huge advantage. The mafia would be able to kill people off much too quickly. In the original rules, they can't confer. 2. Most of the strategy seems to come from the accusations and then having to defend yourself, which is left out of Brutus' game. I think this game would work much better in a chatroom, where you'd feel more pressure to think quickly. |

Title: Re: Anybody interested in Mafia? Post by chili on 01/27/08 at 16:18:53 I'll play. I used to play this all the time at overnight camp. lmao you definitely just made hooker up though. ;) It seems to me that 5 mafia is too many. Maybe 3 or 4. But I've only played this game in real life, not on a forum. |

People have to vote for who to lynch in the main chat. If someone said "I vote to lynch fried!", you would have to defend why you shouldn't be lynched. |
