Title: Definition of shortcuts?
Post by readerone on 11/09/04 at 12:01:26

I've been wondering, how are shortcuts defined on this game? I realize it mostly has to do with mushrooms and jumps. But sometimes it's not very obvious whether a certain way was meant in the game or not. Is there a map over the courses and shortcuts somewhere?

Also, are the Mario Kart Super Circuit record pages still updated?

there are site rules on the site but i dispute alot of them and think that non-sc should be just that, i'd ban some shortcuts outright.

Ok, will look for them on the site. Thanks.

in my opinion you should either race the track with all sc's and glitches included (see japanese times) or race the whole course non-sc - some areas of dispute , shroom platforms etc but otherwise simple.

tom, there are lap skip glitches, lakitu glitches, and track-cutting shortcuts.  you can't use a shortcut and a glitch in the same race.

how do you mean - i've seen a japanese vid whereby they combine both tricking, track skipping then lakitu after.. in one race.

to make it simple - either race it physically as fast as possible by any means or.. just race it on the track with no unintentional sc's or track skips.

I agree that that would be the best way to define SC and non-SC. However the way it seems to be working out is:

*SC is defined as the quickest possible method of completing the level. This can change from time to time as new SCs are found (see Ghost Valley 3, the newest version of that is fairly recent).

*Any other means of completing the level falls into the other category, commonly termed non-SC while in reality it should be Alternate SC in some cases (Ribbon Road, GV3, et al).

so whats this ghost valley three thing?

There's a vid of it at www2.loops.jp/~neka - it's done in a crazy 26"5x!

Basically there's a means of tricking the lap counter to register an extra lap, triggered by a Spin Turn at the start of the race. Unfortunately this doesn't appear to work on the other Ghost Valley themed tracks.

I hate this kind of glitch...
I think that caused the preemptive chart death...
For example i play only tracks without major glitch.

Pobre, instead judging and offending, play MKSC.
Do you think it's useless only becuase the chart is stopped?
Well, start beating the old chart times.
Then go in the PR thread and try to beat all submitted times.
Then you can try to beat one of Hirano time (good luck)...

My definition of shortcut:

Lakitu Glitch (on all the water tracks I believe) - fall thru glitch (GV3 I guess) - Koopa beach 1 (jump over piece a water and finish)

No shortcuts: like Bowser Castle 3 SC tracks (I guess) where you can jump over the wall. or Broken Pier (or the other one not sure (sorry))jumping over with a shroom, ain't shortcut to me, these are like meant to be in there (only the real glitches are shortcuts in my oppinion) the rest is just plain cuts while you follow the track.
