Title: New WR Jap/English WR Page
Post by Mark Jones on 07/15/04 at 03:45:41

Mike McKenzie showed me this page today...
http://www47.tok2.com/home/pepusi/index3

A lot of movies and a lot of sick times. After some of the vids it's pretty obvious to me that they (Hirano) are using an emulator to do these runs. Just watch the PC vid and how quickly he gets those boosts charged up. I don't think that's possible unless you are able to slow down the game and steer back and forth during the slide. Save states would also explain how he hits some of the insane SCs 3/3 like Ribbon Road. Thoughts?

Does this warrant the removal of Hirano's times from the WR lists?

Also, will the new shortcuts (think BL, and the new GV3 strat) spark new interest in the game? I sure hope so, because through the wonder of emulation I'm coming back!  ;D

I can talk only on MC1 extra track, since i've not decent times on others tracks.
Hirano times are:
8,75  - 7,78  - 7,78 -  9,50 -  9,35  (1-1-1-0-0)
My best splits are
8,66 -  7,73  - 7,73 -  9,90 - 10,23 (1-1-1-0-0)
So if we talk only about shrooming laps, my laps are better  :P
And i dont use his wiggling/trembling tecnique to get early boost (how can be done?).
About non shroomers lap it's strange that  he got 4th lap slower than last lap, because the beginning of 4th lap is in the middle of a ticking tecnique...

Really dont know if he use an emulator but:
1) his time can be better
2) i wish to know the truth

It's incredible. I want to know exactly wich button sequence he press   ::)

Yep it's those SSMT "zig-zag" boosts that lend me to believe that he is using an emulator. Basically you start a slide and zig-zag back and forth building up the boost... however he does this insanely fast and my guess is he uses an emulator to slow down the game in order to that. Actually I'm certain that he does.

I tried up  some test: i cant zig zag neither as fast neither as constantly than Hirano.
Maybe i need a bit of training   ;)

Now i'm trying to understand something by his BBS:

Now my 2nd and 3rd best lap time is 7"68  :P
So, in this laps, Hirano extra boosts are useless...
Or maybe he has better splits and is not using an emulator.

I experienced some disconnection with Hirano site.
Just download each file using a download manager (since resume is necessary when connection is unstable like this).

i didn't know anyone made pal and ntsc games for wireless consoles.  unless nintendo planned on hooking it up to an antenna to receive tv signals.  isn't the gba game compatible with both gba systems, if there is a difference?

duff go to the top of this page on the first posted message by mark jones check out the web page with jap vid's ,watch sky garden and tell me if you can make that jump because on the english version it can not be done, you come close to it but you can not reach it[so i think that the jap/nstc are different and are made easyer to play than the english.

i doubt very strongly that there is a pal/ntsc difference on mksc..

i think it comes down to skill or emulation

That jump in Sky Garden can be achieved on any version of the game. It just takes al ot of luck. In order to do that 3 times in a row I'm guessing that he used an emulator and saved states.

Oh well, I have read this topic and I have compared those vids with the vids I have and for me it's obvious that that guy has played on a emulator, you can see that the graphics on the vids are not the same, it's more clear, like the emulators filters (where are the scanlines on his vids?), and you can notice that there is a small buffer in the sound like the emulator, how he could make so good quality vids from the gba screen? uh?

Look these 3 RR images, the first one is one vid I have from a real gba, the 2nd one is from his RR vid, and the 3rd one I took on the emulator here.

And I have a vid of someone getting that jump on sky garden on all 3 laps on a real gba.

It's sad if he claims to be WR holder but he use a cheat like this.

It's the total time 36,75? If so i have this video, but quality is too low to judge if graphics come from an emulator or else...

Well with the GBA player for the GameCube you can play MKSC on a TV and record the vids just as you would a Double Dash vid... using the video output of the GameCube. You can even use this to record replays of older runs you achieved while not using the GB Player. I know I tried it. :)

Yes Pilucco, it's the time you said, but I know that one is on the real gba, and Mark, yeah, I didn't know about it, but the thing that really proves that his vids was played on the emulator is the sound buffer (the little delay on the sound), you can test yourself that it happens on the emulator (visual boy advance), look the 2nd and 3rd image, it's exactly the same, his vid and the screenshot I took from the emulator, and check yourself the sound delay.

Hmm, when i add a title or i re-encode the video, it's usual that i loose audio/video synch (crappy Pinnacle software).
Anyway your pictures show exactly the same colors in 2nd and third images... and since we can see a pixel precision map it seems that the Hirano image comes no from an analog source.
If we count that his wiggling tecnique seem to be impossible to do in real time...   bah... too sad.
Anyway most of his strat are great  ;)
