Alex is a well-known person in the gaming community and has proved that all his times and scores are valid. He is one of the best all-around Nintendo gamers in the world so it is no surprise that he is on top of the MKDD ranks too. But if he wouldn't put any effort in making a proof tape I'm sure he would get his times frozen or even banned from the site until he sends in proof :o

Alex has already submitted proof to Ben Miller - the Australian Proof Moderator - in the form of a VHS tape. Just because you don't have access to the vids right now doesn't mean that he hasn't been proven. Thanks, and have a nice day. ::)

Guys,
Just kind of curious why in this day and age proof is being exchanged by vhs tape.
Surely everyone here has a computer and an internet provider or a friend who does, so why are files not just uploaded and either sent online thru email or aims for example. Better still uploaded to a webpage for retrieval. Most providers usually give free space enough webspace for this. This website could then link to each of these personal sites to share the files.
Am I missing something ?

Well, in our history of gaming competitions proof has allways consisted of VHS tapes. People sent their taped races to proof moderators. And they validate the times. That's more than enough to get someone officially validated.

With capture cards and digital cameras becoming more available lately, people also started creating mpeg's, so that players could demonstrate their strategies to all the other players.

Those movies are very useful and beneficial for the gaming community. However, they don't mean the normal VHS tapes are no good proof anymore. Sending VHS tapes to a proof mod is still the standard in validating your times. Creating online movies is just an added bonus (a very nice bonus though).

Creating online movies of every single race of all players is just impossible as well. It takes too much time to create mpegs/avis for all races of all players and there's not enough webspace/bandwidth for all those vids. And people aren't interested anyhow in seeing races of 30 different players on Baby Park for example.

Most providers don't give enough space/bandwidth for videos. Almost every single free webhost has some restrictions that will prevent you from sharing large files on their servers.
Some players on this site did still manage to get a few hosting accounts with good space and bandwidth though. And with those accounts, we're already doing what you said. Check the video page on the site.

In conclusion: Alex is validated. And we're now working on getting his awesome races and strats online sometime soon, mainly for your viewing pleasure.

Ok the reason why Ben can't put the vids online him self , is he dont have a page to put them on.Another reason he cant hand them over the internet to me is because he made them on his sister computer , dont no why , and have no idea why he made them on it , so the only way is to send the tape by post.Hope i made things very clear now.

I'm with AT&T and they give 60mb of space for 10.95 a month. Im just going to cable next week and they give 70mb doesnt seem to be a shortage here !
Perhaps you cant keep an entire library online but that kind of space should be ok for plenty if you compress the files as some guys are already doing.
If u dont have a capture card pretty cheap these days use a digital camera or video cam, files can be uploaded in minutes and saved to a media file
So again the use of video tape may have been traditional and still the best choice in some parts of the world but in most tech developed places I would suggest elsewise.

Space is not the main problem. The biggest problem is bandwidth. Most free providers give only 1 GB/month, which is 30MB/day which means that only 6 vids of 5 MB could be downloaded each day. That's not enough if 100 people want to download some vids. And most providers don't even allow you to put zip/mpeg/avi files on their servers.
Paid webhosts are better, but accounts with enough bandwidth are expensive. The average host that has 50GB/month or more are usually about 250$ a year.

Interesting !
I have avi files on my website with my AT& T account
and I was not aware of any limit on file downloads.
I couldn't find any info on bandwidth at their homepage.
I guess that l would have so few people downloading the files that the issue would not arise.
I also use flash to display video files and that is certainly not impacted as its part of the opening of the page.

Yeah, that's because free.fr is that only one exception with unlimited bandwidth, that i often talk about when it comes to free webhosting. I wonder how they manage to survive this way. They should've been in financial trouble long ago with all that expensive bandwidth they're giving away for free...

Ok Ben cant transfer them onto his computer because the videos are to big to put on a floppy disk or what ever , and yes Penev has a tape.

In Brazil we have to pay for a ISP for ADSL connection, and we have lots of them with advatagens and disavantages, my ISP is matrix (www.matrix.com.br), and it gives 1 gb for ADSL users, and I pay R$ 14.77 (U$ 4.92) for the ISP.
