Title: Tree Shrooming Post by Dru on 02/26/04 at 11:53:09 Since I got MKSC a couple weeks ago I've played nothing but time-trials and even then have only concentrated on 3 courses (PC, MC, and LC) using DK. My favorite right now is LC and I have a 1'15"70 with a 25"00 1-shroom first lap. I'm having a blast just finding new ways to cut corners. However, I'm becoming curious about tree shrooming. I've seen videos but I haven't been able to do it myself, any tips? Also, does anyone have any non-tree-shrooming records? |

Title: Re: Tree Shrooming Post by xCepheus on 02/26/04 at 12:25:12 http://www.mariokart64.com/mksc/tips.html :) "Tree-Tricking" : In MKSC there are 3 basic ways to extend the capabilities of your shrooms. The most important, glitchy and versatile of these ways is "Tree-Tricking." This name of this technique originates from its earliest known use. Japanese players discovered that you could extend your shroom on Peach Circuit by shrooming into a tree. What you do is: Line up with the tree you are trying to hit. When you are in shroom range use your shroom and drive strait into the tree. Just before you are about to hit the tree, jump and release the accelerator (A Button). If you did it right you should now be coasting at maximum speed. The boost will last for a couple of seconds as long as you do not touch the accelerator. While you are boosting you can drive over grass or any surface (besides deep water) without slowing down. You also have the ability to turn incredibly sharp around corners eliminating the need to jump or powerslide. A good way to take a sharp corner like a U-Turn is to hold B as you take the turn. If you do this you will not lose your boost but the duration of the boost will be shortened. There are a lot of complexities with this technique. For one the distance from the tree at which you use your shroom will impact how fast and how long your boost will be. If you shroom too far away from the tree will boost will be short lived. If you shroom too close to the tree your boost will be at maximum length but you will some of the pre-tree boost time. The key is to find the right distance from the tree at which to shroom so that you get maximum pre and post-tree boost. Also, if you turn slightly before impact your kart will boost at an angle. This can be helpful if you need to turn a certain way after your boost wears out. Coasting like this at an angle will not affect how long your boost is. However, jumping and braking will shorten the length of your boost and hitting the accelerator and running into other objects will kill your boost. Oh ya, this not only works on trees, but virtually every stationary object in the game. Snowmen, umbrellas, cacti, tile corners and even flat tile walls are fair game! You can also use this technique in combination with zipper arrowsr and objects. |

I've tried the technique a few times, but always refused to use it to achieve my actual PRs, which are at http://www.geocities.com/sim07laflamme/mkscprofile (will need some serious re-editing before I use it as my official MKSC profile, but that's all I've got for now) All the times listed on there are also Non-SC. Also, some players like Jason Whalls, Sami Çetin and Kevin Booth have all of their times done without tree tricking, as they were achieved for the most before the technique's discovery. |

My focus was on Mario Circuit 1 ET: With tree/wall ticking: 45,18 Sec. Without either tree ticking and shrooming: 52,95 Sec. Never tried shrooming without TT. termoPilucco |

Title: Re: Tree Shrooming Post by Dru on 02/27/04 at 11:58:44 I tried tree tricking out. It just felt like cheating, definitely seems glitchy and unintended by the designers. So, I'm chosing to stay away from it. I managed to increase my LC PR significantly w/out it anyways: 1'14"81 and a 24"71 one-shroomer. I have one more question though. In the Time Trials records menu there are two columns for ghosts. What is the second clolumn for? Are there course ghosts? If so where and how do I open them? |

Title: Re: Tree Shrooming Post by xCepheus on 02/28/04 at 07:27:35 those columns are for the ghosts you can download from your friends using a link cable or mobile adapter |
