Its it the End of 2007... You can stand under my Umbrella...
Sami @ Sunday, December 30th [link]
|
End of 2007 speech
It has been both an eventful year both in and out of the SMK World, filled with sad days, happy days, easy days, stressful days, but very hopeful and fun days. But it has been a great ride wherever you have been; The Games meets that took off more this year were a great highlight, notably Paris in March which had the British, Swiss, Dutch and several French Karters, followed by a kart meet in USA and the long awaited Norway meeting in July which had Games Tournaments, football tournaments, and the likes of Legends such as Drew Blumfield proving himself on Battle Mode once and for all and scaling a mountain, earning the nickname of Mountain Yak (by the Gaff). The Championnat de France 2007 was also a great hit with Florent hitting the Top there and becoming the 2 Player World Champion on Match Race and 150CC GP. A meeting in October was held where Team UK hosted something fun including the 25th Birthday of Sami. More karters met up and a other celebrities like Leyla Hasso joined in some Tournaments briefly. The night out in Black Sheep Bar was planned in advance and it turned out to be a great idea!
During this, the site also had many new members from around the World, including new Champions making successful climbs in their individual countries, notably from Belgium, Spain, Italy and Japan; and they continue to climb and reach new heights along with all the other karters who have done so well this year. Pierre L'Hoest also recently dethroned Karel on PAL Time Trial although Karel put up one hell of a fight in the weeks prior to that, both of them setting World Records to amazing standards...
New recruits will be found in 2008, and we look forward to welcoming more new members as they find the site and show their interest in SMK and competing in Time Trials and being a part of a great community. So to all of you out there, find some local friends of any skill level to play Time Trials and join the site; beginners can be built up into pretty good players as a certain 8 year old has proven We also have many more things to look forward to in 2008, including further large meetings that are in the works; one in the Netherlands and another in USA. Those are gonna be great as we will all have a great laugh and do new activities, plus the travelling itself to new countries for many of us and doing some sight seeing also is great. So I'll take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Healthy new year for yourselves, families and all friends. SMK is now 15 years old and the site will celebrate its 10th Birthday in November; keep up the great PRs and WRs everyone and we will keep the site active, and not to mention Hench as ever!

Pierre L'Hoest set a World Record tie on Bowser Castle 1 lap for PAL 0'17"43*.
Movement
PAL Activity:
PAL Time Trial World Champion, Pierre L'Hoest drove a World Record tie on BC1 fastlap PAL this week, a small cut on his previous week's effort.
#3 Sami Cetin the Time Trial Champion of the UK made a surprise run this week on Time Trial (please excuse my drunk looking post lol, I was under the influence of the Gaff...). Sami went on a mission to regain #3 from Florent Lecoanet with a series of PRs on Mushroom, Flower and Star Cups and has secured that position for the end of 2007.
#5 Julien Holmiere also had a similar motive to Sami with his return with a strong set of PRs. Julien has cut some good average finish off this week and maintains his position at #5.
#7 Matthias Boucher of France is up next with some PRs on his weaker KB1 times that have slightly cut some average finish.
#15 Manuel Babjar of Germany set some more strong NBT PRs, passing Dutch strongman Michael Jongerius and landing directly into battle with Geoffrey Label, also noting that Sebastien Holmiere is very close ahead for some more possible rank gains as Manuel continues to target the Top 10.
#25 Guillaume Leviach made 3 PRs this week, some further NBT work on DP1 and a nice MC2 lap cut as he defends his rank.
#27 David Bonne sets a solid PR for Ghost Valley 2 and passes former French Champion Nicolas Clementy.
#30 Angelo Di Vano, the Champion of Italy is unstoppable as he continues his quest to close the gaps in stats and hit awesome PRs. Mario Circuit 1 he focused on hard after learning the strats with a great lap finish and 1'00" barrier broken. His other PRs are also getting stronger as he is now in the Top 30 with about 4 or 5 karters in range to attack in the next weeks if he makes a similar cut.
#35 Frederic Duarte-Leite and #36 Ben Allen are in the next battle! This week Frederic sets 6 PRs with some good NBT on CI2 and a strong cut passing Spanish Champion, Oleguer. Ben Allen however has a crazy week with a -4 average finish cut catching up close to Frederic to make a very interesting battle. Ben has also reached #4 in the UK and is within range to head for his target of 3rd place in the UK.
#50 Alvin van Asselt defends his rank with his latest KB2 PR near the 1'05 barrier.
#53 James Jones of the Team UK fights well on his Non-NBT PRs passing Parigos Legend Anthony Pichard with the latest new times including BC1, some great MC2 and RR, amongst others. He has a good pace for the Top 50 soon.
#92 Tom Gaffikin (a.k.a The Gaff)... He made a surprise return on a short visit to Sami's prior to a night out of celebration and wanted to join Team UK with a PR or two; a nice lap cut on his VL2 placed him ahead of former UK Time Trial Champion from 1996, Matt Leech for #15 in the UK.
#117 John Kennedy is really picking up the pace with his PRs, setting thestrong cuts he needed as he passes Frank Sweet and Gene Tagliabue for #7 Australia. Former Australia #2 Martin Bowman who was active in 1996 around the time of Matt Leech, is the next target for John followed by the Top 100s.
#121 Steve Bayliss set a pair of DP3 PRs pretty quickly showing some good skill and improving his stats.
#141 Samuel Gomez of France has found a new rival with the return of #142 Arno van den Barselaar of the Netherlands! It has been a while since Arno played but he is already setting some good records so far and hopefully will continue to compete; Samuel holds the lead by a little distance with an equally good set of improvements this week.
#160 Daniel Caterbow set PRs for CI1 and VL1 this week making some good marks there and is heading towards the next ranked karters on the list.
#189 Daniel Pabst improved his course PR on Bowser Castle 1.
#257 Lindsay Molenaar drove a very nice cut to pass Turkish Karter Alper Cetin and is on the way to reaching Zak White who is close in the lead after many PRs Lindsay made. With a similar cut she may also be able to reach Arbinder Manku.
#262 Jason Mathoora (a.k.a Team UK's Cameraman) improved a few MC2 PRs on a visit to Sami's this week to pass rival friend Skipper and to complete the week's and Year's Team UK Feel No Way activity.
NTSC Activity:
#7 Pierre L'Hoest drove a couple of NTSC PRs this week to follow up on his PAL work. This included some NBT on DP1 and BC1.
#14 Tyler Worley made a few NBT PRs on Donut Plains 2 that are pretty solid and have improved his stats a little, extending his lead further from Sami and Jamie.
#27Michael Fried sets a Non-NBT PR for Choco Island 2.
#29 David Smith of USA worked on Koopa Beach 1 again to improve his standards there as he nears the 50 second barrier with a very nice lap also, following up with some Rainbow Road PRs that are helping his average finish to approach Fried a little. A battle for #5 in USA may take place soon.
#91 Josh Stevens set 5 PRs in the week leading up to the new year and is maintaining his rank. He has however two close ranked rival karters just above within very close range and USA's Trickmaster David Wonn not far ahead.
#104 Nicholas Harvey and #106 Jacob Goldfinger continue a very close battle on average finish this week. Inactive Chris Morton is even ranked between them. Nicholas has made a strong cut and is making his way to the Top 100s with a lot of PRs on the KBs and VLs, some times which were very strong. Jacob has had less time to play this week but succeeded in a nice sub 18 second lap for BC1 and will come back stronger in the new year with more PRs. |

He joined the SMK site fast in 2001, gradually climbed the ranks to reach the Top in 2004 for some months; he loves SMK, holds the pad a unique way, plays every day, and feels no way; he has even been sighted at meets sleeping when sitting up (dreaming smk?)... He is none other than Pierre L'Hoest who has this week hit 3 new World Records to dethrone Karel van Duijvenboden and become the Super Mario Kart Time Trial Champion of the World on PAL. Karel had other matters to attend to at this time but has fought well in the past weeks alongside Pierre's excellent activity. Karel had held the title on PAL for about 3 years to date, so big congratulations to him for his work there. On the forum you will see Pierre's MC4 fastlap video, some pretty nice stuff there!
#4 Florent Lecoanet cut some nice times down with 3 PRs making a significant gain on his average finish score.

#133 Josh Stevens of USA who has recently joined smk has been hitting a lot of new times, pretty much re-writing his PR list and climbing far up the ranks. He has strong potential for the Top 100s so that ranks will see a climb from him further pretty soon.
