#84 Jonathan Steel moved on to the tough Bowser Castle 3 this week where he evetually succeeded in a nice lap, the 5-lap has potential for more damage, which will be dealt soon for a further average finish climb.

#189 Russell Horwood had another immense week with PRs all across the board. His cuts across all the tracks included good hits on MC2, DP2, DP3, and some good platform jumping action on GV3. He has climbed well into the Top 200 of PAL and 34th in the UK.

#319 Craig Sargent of the UK has improved his Mario Circuit 2 PR and maintains his current rank.

NTSC Activity:

#45 Andrew Koltz turned towards Choco Island 1 this week to start a new venture. A PR resulted after a short time and we are sure he will push it to the next level soon.

Super Mario Kart World Championship 2012 - 20th Anniversary Edition

As many of you are aware, Super Mario Kart will be celebrating its 20th Birthday of the original Japanese in August this year. It has spawned several sequels to make one of the most successful and best selling video game franchises since. We have the yearly Super Mario Kart World Championships also every August in France and are very popular with many karters from various countries attending.

The dates set for this year are Monday 20th August 2012 until Sunday 26th August 2012.

This year's Championship is intended to be a special one where we aim to get a record number of players attending and have some nice presentations, including the yearly Tournaments on PAL version plus some additional one off NTSC competitions to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Japanese release. There will be several prizes from the sponsors including the host FFSMK, Nintendo of France, Mario Museum, the Super Mario Kart Time Trial World Rankings and others. Medals and Trophies are also a yearly regular for the Top achievers in the modes.

The venue this year will be in Thil near Reims, France which was used in the 2008 and 2010 Championships. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet the players, have a great laugh and enjoy a week away. The inscriptions have now gone up so players can register if they would like to go. Guillaume Leviach who is one of the main FFSMK members hosting the event has kindly created a topic on the forum with some more information and links to the registration:

PAL Activity:

#145 Krystian Wieczorek, the Champion of Poland returned to the foundations of SMK, namely Mario Circuit 1 to chop down his weaker average finish times there. Some nice cuts happened so far helping him to gain a couple of ranks.

#160 Leyla Hasso, the PAL Women's World Champion had a very short but sweet session on Koopa Beach 1, classic Non-NBT style and broke the 12 second barrier on the fastlap and a reasonable 5-lap cut to gain a few ranks including shifting up to 27th in the UK.

#216 Russell Horwood has been the man of the hour again with another batch of PRs carrying good cuts to his previous times. The majority happened on Flower Cup with some sharp hits including Mario Circuit 3 at 1'37" level. His Bowser Castle 2 5-lap has a lot of potential.

#319 Craig Sargent of the UK has had his eye on the Mario Circuit 1 sub 1'05" barrier which he achieved this week and improved his lap well also. Potential for a 1'03" time will be there after improving round all the other tracks.

NTSC Activity:

#45 Andrew Koltz saw that DP2 still wasn't complete for now. The Non-NBT specialist was hungry for more so the 5-lap this time had the 1'27"00 barrier taken down with a consistent time. He has some targets for Choco Island 1 so this will be interesting to see next time, and some average finish cuts can gain a few more ranks soon.

PAL Activity:

#153 Herve Schintu hit a few PRs on Bowser Castle 3 and Vanilla Lake 2 with some good bumper jumps on the first track and consistent driving on the latter. A more agressive speed strategy will help Herve take the next step on VL2 later. He will gain more average finish improving other weaker tracks.

#162 Leyla Hasso returned to SMK after a few weeks break and headed to Mario Circuit 3. A very strong cut was made to take two more records off Tanja with some good Non-NBT action.

#222 Russell Horwood is heading towards to top 200 with good pace; he has made some nice Star Cup and Special Cup cuts, Rainbow Road has potential for a 1'3x"xx time so we will likely see some improvement there.

#319 Craig Sargent of the UK is a rising star and has climbed 23 ranks this week. He met up with Leyla Hasso and Sami Cetin and drove several new times across the tracks with big potential. The main highlight was Rainbow Road with a successful top speed run with Koopa. He will continue to improve the harder cups with Koopa and Mushroom Cup with D.K.Jr for now and the Top 300 should be within easy reach.

NTSC Activity:

#45 Andrew Koltz wasn't done with Donut Plains 2 last week, so another tiny cut and the sub 17 barrier was reached! Although he is looking at the potential on this track, it may be a good time to try some others.

#99 Christophe Charignon set 3 new PRs, a nice Ghost Valley 1 platform jump cut and a pair of new times on Mario Circuit 2. He has gained a rank over Brian Thomas and is approaching Ciro.

What an amazing adventure

PAL Activity:

#86 Jonathan Steel attacked Choco Island 2 this week with strong Non-NBT attempts, especially on the fast lap and passed a couple of ranks on the PAL ladder.

#147 Krystian Wieczorek hit 9 PRs with a lot of focus on the Mario Circuit tracks. He has climbed a few ranks and continues towards his potential Top 100.

#155 Herve Schintu made a return to SMK this week with some PRs on Choco Island 1 and Donut Plains 2. He is gaining ranks towards the Top 150 PAL so we hope to see some more new PRs soon.

#233 Russell Horwood has worked on a long list of PRs during the Easter break and upped his skill level overall. Highlights include DP1 and MC3 where he landed some solid times.

#257 Adam Flinn has made a stronger comeback since joining at the end of last year with 26 new PRs. His average finish score has improved and if he continues the pace he could provide some competition for Horwood.

#280 Thomas Jordet Larsen of Norway also made a brief stopover at SMK with a pair of new times for Mario Circuit 3; there is potential judging by his lap and he is fast approaching Snorre for 2nd in Norway.

#342 Craig Sargent of the UK is starting to work on some other tracks this week with successful results so far. Mario Circuit 1 is looking good at 1'05" level, but he will benefit more after working through the tougher courses.

NTSC Activity:

#45 Andrew Koltz hopped over to Donut Plains 2 for some fastlap improvements. He is very close to the 17 second barrier and maintains his current rank.

#167 John Brunn improves some Mushroom Cup times, some quicker attempts came through on Bowser Castle 1 and notably Mario Circuit 2 where he broke the 1'20" barrier.
