16 August 2009: "Super Mario Kart PAL World Championship 2009"
---
Super Mario Kart PAL World Championship 2009 As many of you are aware, the Super Mario Kart PAL Version World Championship will begin this Tuesday 18th August, and run until the 23rd August, in Allenjoie, France. According to the inscription lists we have reached a grand total of 35 players from around 8 different countries which is a good turnout. Brazil are throwing their snes pad into the mix this time also with their first official competition. Many of the travellers have already made their way to the event. All the best of luck to the karters competing, some results will be posted on the next update. New Members Guilherme Arantes, Brazil (joining PAL) (PAL 42nd, Brazil 1st, Emperor F) Lee Montgomery, UK (PAL 305th, UK 74th, Pawn F) New World Records No new World Records this week... Movement PAL Activity: #3 Florent Lecoanet improved this week with a new PR for Mario Circuit 4 course time. #5 Guillaume Leviach with a pair of new times for Mario Circuit 1 managed to seal the deal and reach the Top 5 in the World on PAL Super Mario Kart Time Trials, also passing Matthias Boucher for the 3rd place spot in France on Time Trial. #41 Florian Chollet of France performed well on some one try practice hitting a good KB1 lap improvement and defends himself from a new entry this week. #64 Alexandre Burel the Plug and Play Team Champion is looking set and ready to lead his team to many victories at the CDM, and also passes a karter this week on Time Trials. #76 Freek van der Steen hit the VLs with some surprising results, particularly for VL1 where he doubted his potential initially. He is lowering the gap to Alderborn. #88 Samuel Gomez of Team Spain set 3 new PRs this week and is maintaining his rank while moving towards the next targets. #119 Brice Klespert, although he is not attending the CDM, is certainly making some great new times on his return to SMK this week! These include 13 new PRs that have helped his average finish immensely. Definitely a contender who can reach the Top 100 soon. #138 Euan Johnston focused on fewer tracks this week, but his improvements have been of good value as he has closed the gap to the next karters on the ladder, and will start to pass more players very soon with further PRs. #141 Arno van den Barselaar drove 4 new times this week and maintains his rank. Perhaps a rivalry vs Euan can begin here as they are fairly close ranked. #211 Emily van den Barselaar set several new times, sharpening up her skills with Bowser as she cuts off a fair bit of average finish. #293 Paul Kemp decided to sacrifice the large average finish cuts for one more week as he hit Mario Circuit 1 again. Very interesting results however as he pushes it to the lower boundaries of the 1'03". NTSC Activity: #25 Raul Henrique of Brazil drove a very nice CI1 NBT PR and some others on other courses which pushed him up to the Top 25 of NTSC Time Trials. #80 Rich Gomes sparked a return to SMK this week with a couple of PRs on Special Cup to start things off. We will wait to see what other progresses happen. #104 Chris Morton is continuing to make large cuts to his overall stats with several key new times. He has also passed an active rival this week and is making a fast move towards the Top 100s. #106 Dean Barnhart of USA is also driving some great stuff; with a pair of CI1 times and one for KB1, he is also moving closer to the Top 100, following just a little behind Morton. #199 Devin Hickey sent us several new times since his entry to Time Trials last week; he is already making great progress after having reached the Top 200 on NTSC Time Trials. Keep on Karting!
