New World Records

Ha Nyan takes ownership of NTSC World Record on Vanilla Lake 2 5-lap at 0'46"48.

Raul Henrique lowered yet again his NTSC World Record on Donut Plains 1 5-lap to 1'07"96.

Guilherme Arantes takes the Choco Island 1 fastlap World Record of NTSC with 0'10"11.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#2 Karel van Duijvenboden had his first 4/5 hit on Ghost Valley 2 PAL which was great but the consistency was a little off. He will return here there with some stronger results soon, and a fastlap is maybe on the horizon.

#4 Matthias Boucher maintains his rank with a small VL2 lap PR.

#30 Florian Chollet chips away some more on Donut Plains 1 with a couple of nice NBT PRs.

#177 Alexander Walz has been very motivated this week working on each PR to lower his times from his intial submission. So far he has climbed well into the Top 200 with potential for more in the next weeks. He has also reached #25 in Germany.

NTSC Activity:

#3 Guilherme Arantes, the Time Trial Champion of Brazil has delivered a new lap World Record for Choco Island 1 fastlap. He also claims potential for a little further, crazy as it sounds!

#8 Sami Cetin had a nice week after passing Germany, Canada and Japan's Time Trial Champions and landing in the Top 10 in one swoop. Some PRs on Donut Plains 2 did the job well along with a couple of Vanilla Lake 2 efforts that weren't a great success but provided a few points.

#15 Ha Nyan of Japan took a World Record for himself this week with the Vanilla Lake 2 5-lap he drove which went 1/3 of a second faster than the previous. A great effort to jump all the ice sections with precision.

#20 Raul Henrique, the DP1 Legend... we told him to move to another track but he still has more to do there for this year. A great new World Record came out after the 0.03 cut and he sets his sights on the next tracks.

#23 Simon Laflamme this week attacked a few of his Non-NBT PRs for Koopa Beach 1 and defends his current rank.

#51 Chris Morton is making some nice hits on Vanilla Lake 2 and a small PR on Vanilla Lake 1 lap as he continues to make his gain towards the top 50 on NTSC.

#276 Christophe Tremblay of Canada has been back into SMK and working on the strategies well for some of the early tracks as he cuts a good number off the average finish. His result in the climb also moved him ahead of Bautiste to 55th Place in Canada.

New World Records

Tyler Worley pushed his Koopa Beach 1 NTSC World Record down to 0'45"83 and then a Koopa Beach 2 fastlap of 0'10"09.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#4 Matthias Boucher drove a couple of PRs this week, smaller cuts on CI1 with some flatboosting at the end; and a VL2 PR with some well timed island jumps, but defending his rank well.

#30 Florian Chollet drives a new NBT PR for Donut Plains 1 with potential left for more.

#71 Freek van der Steen was working on some Ghost Valley 3 this week and landed a new lap PR which earned him another rank on the PAL ladder.

NTSC Activity:

#11 Sami Cetin and his stubborn act to improve further on KB1 didn't get him too far, particularly for the lap, although some decent cuts were made.

#17 Tyler Worley, the man with the shortest Time Trial World Record on the site, for Koopa Beach 1 has just lowered it another notch further down. And just when we thought that was enough craziness, he has also taken the lap World Record for Koopa Beach 2, slipping under the 10"10 barrier.

#20 Raul Henrique is improving a couple of different tracks; namely DP3 and KB2 where there is plenty of room and we look forward to see some great new times there soon.

#23 Simon Laflamme, the Non-NBT Champion of NTSC and one of Canada's fastest overall karters made a little Non-NBT work of BC1 after a recent motivation from rivals there. Great to see Simon active and hopefully some more PRs in the near future.

#28 Dan Hoernemann, the Minnesota State Champion in USA returned this week to SMK time trials and begins his efforts with a nice 5/5 platform jump NBT Ghost Valley 1 PR.

#181 Hunter Koch has also made a suprise appearance this week to revamp some of his times. Flower Cup was a good place to start and some Mario Circuit 1 where he approaches the 1'02"00 barrier.

No new World Records this week...

Movement

PAL Activity:

#2 Karel van Duijvenboden made a little return to PAL this week and a fastlap PR on Ghost Valley 2. A tough fastlap strat to start on but nice progress so far.

#30 Florian Chollet drove a pair of Vanilla Lake 1 times and is extending his overall lead from Bertrand.

#55 Alexandre Burel, the Champion of the Plug n' Play Team within France returned to SMK this week also. His times were on CI1 with some NBT. This has helped to gain a rank ahead of the former PAL TT World Champion of the mid/late 90s, Edwin Peeters.

#72 Freek van der Steen prolongs his work on Koopa Beach 2 with some much better results. However he is not yet maxed out there so he could be back to KB2 for more. Unless some other tracks and average finish points are calling...

#129 Euan Johnston has gained a couple of more ranks on the PAL ladder this week with PRs on some Mushroom Cup tracks and CI1 afterwards. He has plenty more potential on fastlaps there and other courses.

NTSC Activity:

#11 Sami Cetin drove a few more NTSC PRs on Choco Island 1 including a tight enough lap. Koopa Beach 1 followed with some quick NBT work although nothing too extravagent yet. Perhaps with time and patience some better results will present themself.

#15 Ha Nyan drove 5 new PRs improving small cuts on some tracks he has not worked on for a while. His Rainbow Road 5-lap was the main highlight and there is definitely room to make a sharper record there.

#34 Akita Sounori of Japan returned this week with 6 surprise PRs. His BC1 was a nice achievement made with Non-NBT; Mario Circuit 1 and Donut Plains 3 are coming along nicely, with more potential. He is reaching closer to Japan's 4th place rank, held by Masakazu.

#51 Chris Morton of USA also comes back into Time Trial action with a few PRs on Koopa Beach 2 and Rainbow Road, passing a few players on the way. The Top 50 of NTSC is now only a rank away.

New World Records

Florent Lecoanet drove some great PAL World Records at Vanilla Lake 1 with 0'48"95 and a fastlap with 0'09"57 then a World Record on Ghost Valley 2 fastlap 0'11"80.

Raul Henrique hit an amazing NTSC 5-lap World Record barrier at Donut Plains 1 with 1'07"99.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#3 Florent Lecoanet made a great new barrier on PAL going sub 49 seconds with NBT on Vanilla Lake 1, following up with a fastlap World Record and a new lap also for Ghost Valley 2!

#30 Florian Chollet made a tiny cut for Vanilla Lake 1 lap Non-NBT this week and defends his position.

#72 Freek van der Steen of the Dutch Team NL returns this week after attacking one of his previous tracks he was battling on. Koopa Beach 2 goes into sub 1'05" with potential for more. With other PRs he can certainly cut a volume of average finish.

#131 Euan Johnston made his return to SMK this week also. He is currently the 3rd fastest Time Trial player in Scotland and is well on his way to reaching the title there. 5 quick PRs were driven this week and he has gained another good chunk off his average finish. It won't be long before he reaches his goal, then he can set his sights on the Top 100.

NTSC Activity:

#11 Sami Cetin stayed on Choco Island 1 during a brief session this week making a couple of PRs along the way.

#20 Raul Henrique made some great achievements this week. If Guillaume's CI1 and Florent's VL1 are not already exciting enough; Raul has just broken the 1'08" barrier on Donut Plains 1 with a new World Record there. A few other PRs followed. If Raul continues the same efforts on other courses this can greatly improve his average finish score and thus gain him more ranks.

#170 Brian German of USA drives another PR for Mario Circuit 1, opening up a bit more potential towards the 1'00" barrier. However like Raul he has some great potential on other courses and will climb far when the PRs flow on for those. Keep up the great karting!

New World Records

Raul Henrique drove a superb new World Record on NTSC, 1'08"15 on Donut Plains 1.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#4 Matthias Boucher has chipped away slightly at his Rainbow Road fastlap and made a small improvement also on Choco Island 1.

#10 Manuel Babjar improved further on Koopa Beach 2 with a 5-lap nearer to the 56"00 barrier and a cut this his fastlap.

#30 Florian Chollet defends his PAL rank with a PR for Bowser Castle 2 fastlap.

#194 Gary Thompson continues to hit several new times this week with a majority in Flower Cup and plenty of potential for more. He has managed to pass Graham Wallace for the 4th Place rank in Scotland also.

NTSC Activity:

#11 Sami Cetin passes USA Time Trial Champion Joe Bernier after some Repetitive Strain Injury inducing DP1 NBT session. The potential is there for a lot more but some decent points came out. Choco Island 1 also had a 20-30 minute makeover towards the end of the week but had to cut it early to clean SMK Tower before the big boss returned...

#15 Ha Nyan of Tokyo, Japan did a couple of PRs for BC2 and KB1 this week and defends his rank.

#20 Raul Henrique decided to take his Donut Plains 1 time even further with some great NBT across the difficult angles, making a new World Record. He also made a couple of other PRs.

#25 Manuel Babjar had fun with NTSC this week also; working on some of the watery tracks, no swimming though as there was speed and consistency involved, resulting in a climb past Paquin on the overall ranking.

#82 Von Flyler returns to SMK this week with a good collection of new times. A little bit of NBT thrown in for good measure has also done good placing him near the Top 80 of NTSC Time Trials and 28th Place in USA.

#171 Brian German who recently joined our rankings has been working on his Mario Circuit 1 time and pushed it down further into the 1'00"s. With PRs other courses he can greatly improve his overall level with his Mario Circuit 1 driving skills.

#241 Christophe Charignon drove 13 new PRs and made another good cut to reach into the Top 250. He has stated a return to SMK NTSC again and we also look forward to a future PAL entry.

2010

Sami @ Sunday, January 3rd 06:19PM   [link]

2009 into 2010

One year ends and another begins as we reflect on the past 10 years looking back in amazement as to how far we have all come. 2009 has stayed well active with many karters pursuing new World Records on both PAL and NTSC to improve the benchmarks each time. More players from around the World are getting involved and the community continues to grow alongside our partner sites for the other Mario Kart games.

Gaming meets are becoming more of a highlight including the yearly World Championships where we had 8 countries and near 40 competitors in the recent years. Some of the cheers that happen during these events are loud enough to even rival World Cup Finals in various professional sports! The next 10 years will see a lot of changes for all of us as we find the time to continue our SMK activity but we will be there and will find the time to drive those PRs, World Records and hopefully have a chance to attend a Kart Meet / Tournament at some stage or year.

I Hope you have all had good Holidays and a great New Year Celebration; we always look forward to seeing new times pouring in and hearing of any SMK related events that are happening around the World.

If you are reading this, you are a part of this community, and we all hope you will stay active in Time Trials to keep the greatest game ever alive.

This is Sami Cetin – Your Godfather of SMK

Guillaume Leviach hit a new NTSC World Record for Choco Island 1 5-lap at 0'52"97*.

Florent Lecoanet pushed the PAL course World Record for Vanilla Lake 1 with 0'49"53.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#3 Florent Lecoanet defended his Vanilla Lake 1 5-lap World Record on PAL this week with a new time there and also a PR for his fastlap record.

#4 Matthias Boucher provided 4 new PRs, mostly on NBT with some Non-NBT work also for Ghost Valley 3 and cut some more average finish.

#131 Lars Volkers of Netherlands drives 7 new PRs and gains some good average finish including a climb up the Dutch Ranking ahead of Tieman.

#203 Gary Thompson has made another large average finish improvement with new times for Star Cup and Special Cup tracks. He is moving very fast near the Top 200 on PAL and gaining on Scotland's 4th fastest, Graham Wallace.

NTSC Activity:

NTSC Time Trial World Champion Karel van Duijvenboden was well on top of things towards the end of the month and into the new year far as World Records were concerned. He just missed breaking the 1'23" barrier for DP2 but did reach a new World Record there and a fastlap tie. He also did some action on Special Cup with some records on DP3 and GV3 that are looking solid.

#3 Guilherme Arantes defends his rank this week after a PR for Mario Circuit 3 fastlap.

#4 Guillaume Leviach had a good week after breaking the 53 second barrier on Choco Island 1 NTSC with a new World Record there. He also hit a couple of more PRs in the process.

#12 Sami Cetin made a nice return to NTSC Time Trials during the last few days of the holidays with 6 new PRs and passing a few more karters on the ranking.

#20 Raul Henrique also defends his rank this week with a new PR for Mario Circuit 2 fastlap with IB.

#53 Chris Morton submits 7 new times and gains a rank ahead of the Oklahoma State Champion. His Non-NBT MC4 is getting sharper, a sub 1'40" should happen very soon.

#157 Jose Karica improved 4 PRs; for Choco Island 2 and Ghost Valley 3 this week with over a point cut on average finish.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#4 Matthias Boucher set 3 PRs with a very fast VL1 time followed by a pair of records for MC4 and DP3 which have helped him to pass retired Cetin for 4th place in the World on PAL Time Trials.

#10 Manuel Babjar had Koopa Beach 2 in his mind to keep the activity going and reached some nice NBT times with plenty of potential even for a sub 56 second course time.

#30 Florian Chollet passed 3 legendary karters including Swiss Time Trial Champion, Raphael Braun. He has reached a good goal over Christmas landing in the Top 30 following some KB1 and VL1 work.

#132 Lars Volkers of the Netherlands made a surprise return to SMK recently and has prepared some new times for Mario Circuit 1 and 2, then a pair on Choco Island 1 with a cut on VL1 fastlap subbing the 12 second barrier.

#141 Arno van den Barselaar of the Netherlands made more progress on Mario Circuit 4 this week, cutting another average finish point down with his efforts.

#199 Emily van den Barselaar breaks further into the Top 200 following up also on Mario Circuit 4, 3 seconds behind Arno on the course time.

#225 Gary Thompson of Scotland, UK has driven a lot of new PRs since his first time submisson. He has made a strong cut to his average finish and opened up a lot more potential. He should fly well into the Top 200 in the World on PAL when he continues to improve his times.

NTSC Activity:

NTSC Time Trial World Champion Karel van Duijvenboden worked on his weaker MC3 NBT times on NTSC as he works out the best strategies available. His progress is moving along well with a course time heading towards the 1'25" barrier and a strong lap.

#4 Guillaume Leviach went on a great assault the last few weeks to make a large cut and reach beyond the 5th place rank in the World for NTSC Time Trials. This even included taking 2nd place in the French NTSC Time Trial ranking; he had all round strong times including a satisfying 47 second VL2 ice dance. Shame that we cant drive so fast in the snowy European weather lately!

#15 Ha Nyan, the Time Trial Champion of Tokyo continued to work on Ghost Valley 1 and makes further progress this week including a 4th place time for the 5-lap.

#21 Raul Henrique is beginning to work on some other tracks that are already cutting off bigger average finish points. These included tracks on Flower and Star Cup. With further cuts on these he can advance well into the Top 20 of NTSC Time Trials. Former USA/World Time Trial Champion Jamie White is just ahead.

#23 Simon Laflamme, the Non-NBT Specialist of Canada made a nice return to a favourite track; Bowser Castle 2. A tight record run with Non-NBT strategy was produced this week and he defends his rank.

#54 Chris Morton is working on closing the gap to Oklahoma State Champion Nathan Stinson. He drove 6 new PRs across DP1, CI2 and GV3.

#158 Jose Karica, the Champion of Panama has made a lot of action last week; he went through pretty much every course and lap time in an effort to lower them a significant amount, resulting in a large chop to his average finish and gaining over 40 or so ranks. His potential now is definitely heading towards the Top 100 which should be his next goal to work towards.

#220 Joe Sebeny of USA returns to SMK this week also with 4 PRs on Mario Circuit 1 and Ghost Valley 2 resulting in a climb of a few more ranks. We look forward to see more PRs from Joe soon.

New World Records

Matthias Boucher delivered amazing PAL World Records for Bowser Castle 1 with 1'27"95* and 0'17"39*.

Movement

PAL Activity:

#5 Matthias Boucher went for the long overdue sub 1'28"00 that had to happen on BC1 PAL. He achieved a 1'27"95 World Record, very well done, and then broke the fabled 4 way tie on Bowser Castle 1 fastlap for a new World Record under the 17"4x. Amongst these were some other PRs that helped him to climb closer to Sami and the 4th place rank on PAL Time Trials.

#142 Arno van den Barselaar presented the return of the Barselaars this week. With Arno setting some nice cuts on 3 of his PRs extending his lead from Magnus Rydh whom he previously passed.

#200 Emily van den Barselaar has been karting alongside Arno and has driven many new times as she hits the Top 200 of PAL Time Trials. Her average finish cut was strong also so look out for more PRs from her soon.

NTSC Activity:

#6 Guillaume Leviach drove several new times this week, some of them smaller cuts but he achieved another rank after passing Alencar Faria. His GV2 went sub 1'00" and his MC1/GV1/KB2 times are looking pretty solid.

#15 Ha Nyan of Japan also did a similar strategy on his times. He improved some of his weaker times and improved a few stronger ones. His NBT work on Rainbow Road was very impressive as he continues to close the gap on average finish to karters above.

#54 Chris Morton passes Yves Daniel this week with a nice selection of Mario Circuit times, 4 in total. With some larger average finish cuts on weaker times he can close the gap to the karters above and reach for the Top 50 on NTSC.

#210 Jose Karica, the Champion of Panama drove 11 new PRs to improve his overall level and has made a very good cut so far. He has plenty of potential and once he has gone through more of the tracks, he will be well into the Top 200 of NTSC.
