Next update
Hello all, as you all know this week the update was a little earlier; if your PRs didn't make it in don't worry, they will be safe for the next update and I will add them in then. Just to let you know that the next update (27th July) will be a little later in the day (by a few hours). I will still collect new records and PRs up until end of day Saturday as normal. After that it should return to normal. Many thanks and keep up the great Karting!

#41 Gene Tagliabue, the Champion of Australia, works on his weaker GV3 times and is turning them into strong Non-NBT times. He has potential with the lap and see his way to a sub 1'17" soon.
#74 John Kennedy of Australia sets a few GV2 PRs and maintains his rank.

#6 Matthias Boucher of France hits a few more PRs with solid NBT and made a climb past German Champion of PAL, Sebastian Stellmacher.
#9 Angelo Di Vano of Italy and #10 Manuel Babjar of Germany are still fighting their way towards the next rank. Angelo worked on a few key courses, including GV1 where he nailed a solid time and is not far from Huber. Manuel also supplied us with his latest strong records and follows closely behind Angelo.
#13 Guillaume Leviach set two new PRs this week, improving some of his stats overall and increasing his lead from Pierre Coste.
#23 James Jones of the British Team makes a great return to SMK this summer following completion of exams and has been working very hard on his favourite Mario Circuit 1, also making some decent cuts on other times to make a strong climb past USA's Joe Bernier. James is currently after Matt's 2nd place in the UK.
#36 Ben Allen and #37 Sean Billingsley both made their return to SMK this week too. Sean remains in position with a small cut to CI1 and defends his rank, while Ben goes on the offensive on MC1 with a couple of NBT PRs to get him started with plenty of potential as he defends #4 in the UK.
#41 Gene Tagliabue, the recently crowned Champion of Australia continues his PRs this week, a little fewer than previous weeks, but homing in on some more detailed strategy to gain himself some distance. A few more Australian Country records have also helped him to pass the Champions of Norway and Belgium during this week.
#65 James Tagliabue also karted this week, focusing on a few PRs, including an IB lap on MC2 gaining him a lot of average finish points. There are several close ranked karters ahead, so James can make a climb into the Top 60 once his utilises more NBT as Gene has.
#74 John Kennedy decided to work further on his Ghost Valley 3 PRs, setting a great sub 1'17" course time and finally succeeding in a lap Country record in Australia also.
#119 Samuel Gomez sets a new PR on Ghost Valley 3 this week.
NTSC Activity:
#6 Chris Balch, the Champion of Canada made a surprise little return this week and attempted to break the 57 second barrier on Mario Circuit 1. He will reach it on his next PR, we are confident.
#13 Tohgo Ariake of Japan makes a decent climb this week focusing on some tracks where he can gain average finish to help. He has 8 new records and passed Luis Felipe Ferrari, and is approaching Holmiere.
#16 Ha Nyan of Japan drives a very fast GV2 time, one of his strongest tracks that nearly rivalled a World Record. He is currently #2 on GV2 with his latest 5-lap time.
#66 Juan Manuel Arteaga, the Champion of Costa Rica is constantly chipping away at rivals average finish scores with mixed Non-NBT and NBT PRs to help raise his standards. He has passed 2 karters this week.
#119 Raul Henrique of Brazil has made an amazing climb after learning some Long boosting from the high ranked Brazilian karters. Along with some more PRs he still has excellent potential and can reach the Top 100s very soon if he keeps up the PRs.
#136 Bryan Cochonour passes 4 karters and his 8 PRs are helping him climb further. His GV1 PRs are including platform jumping and he is getting sharper on the rest. Bryan is just a few points short of passing the Champion of Ecuador.
#189 Adam Leibach of USA makes a strong comeback to SMK with several new times and reaches well into the Top 200. He has a pace to improve and climb very far, we look forward to see the next set of PRs. |

Karter Voting Contest Update
The Kart contest has started off well with lots of players on the Forum from all Mario Kart versions voting for karters. It is evident that a lot of the newer karters are not familiar with those on al the karts, and vice versa, so it has been difficult to vote for a few. Round 2 has already been in motion with Michael Liem and April Thompson (also SMK players) two of the 4 lucky ones to advance to round 3. Several great names of SMK are also in round 2 this week; so if you were planning to vote for one of the guys that are familiar on SMK (and other karts) keep checking each day to see if their voting day has arrived:
Sebastian Stellmacher, Jamie White, Matt Ellis, Kevin Booth, Pierre L'Hoest, Marius Hukkelaas, Luca Barbetta, Nathan Stinson, Alvin van Asselt, Kalle Videkull, Tom Gaffikin, Jonathan Sifleet, Michael Fried, Joe Bernier, Guilherme Arantes, David Smith, Marius Mollenhauer, Vincent van der Fluit, Armin Huber, Paul Tanney, Steven Zwartjes, Robert Szabo, Leyla Hasso, Ben Allen, Michael Jongerius, Kristopher Will, Sebastien Holmiere, Benoit Boudreau, Richard Karlsson, Sean Billingsley, Chris Clark, Robin Usher, Piet den Dulk, Cole Gilbert, Karel van Duijvenboden, Florent Lecoanet
There are several other karters who compete on other Karts, I would recommend vieiwing all the Campaigns in the Kart Contest 2008 section of the Forum for some background information and great advertisements of those great Karters so you can vote for them too

He has now passed Eric Scott to become the new Super Mario Kart Time Trial Champion of Australia! Gene still however has amazing pace with his NBT success, with the Norwegian, Belgium and Spanish National Champions up ahead, he has several goals and plenty of potential.

This year a similar event has been set up on the forum, check it out when you have a chance, read the rules and vote for your choices, there are new groups each day to vote a few players from:
http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=contest_2008
Today from the SMK site some familiar faces are available to vote on the two topics; tomorrow several more special names are up for voting. Please follow the rules carefully and have fun voting in this contest.

Youngest Karter?
My sister just telephoned as I am writing, and she wanted me to announce that future member Maia Hasso, aged 2 years and 8 months old (younger sister of Leyla, some of you met briefly at UK meet Oct 2008) has just completed her first Time Trial run on Mario Circuit 1 of 2'15". Word is that she likes crashing into things at the moment, so hopefully that time will lower soon.

PAL Activity:
#10 Manuel Babjar and #11 Angelo Di Vano continue their fantastic battle for the Top 10! Not only this but they are both climbing also, gaining towards karters ahead. Manuel defends his spot with a DP3 PR, while Angelo sets a few more with some nice flatboosting on DP2 and a pairof VL2 times with nice cuts and a sub 10 second lap. Angelo is gaining, so next week could play a deciding result, even more so as Paquin at 9th place is just ahead.
#15 Guillaume Leviach has succeeded this week with super fast Non-NBT PRs including BC3 5-lap under 1'31". An excellent achievement and he has passed Jonas for #7 in France, with Pierre Coste within reach ahead. Guillaume is also currently in direct Competition with Team NL's Flying Dutchman Gerard Roodhorst.
#35 Alvin van Asselt has had a change this week working on more PRs and cuts to his average finish are increasing further on PAL, extending the lead from Sean and moving closer to Lefevre.
#41 Mathieu Jaspard, Belgian Champion returned with some solid Non-NBT cuts to place him ahead of Brangeon. His next target is to reach the Top 40 overall with Clark next on the rankings.
#58 Gene Tagliabue is making an insane climb this week, hitting PRs most of the days and shaving seconds. He is reaching the group of Top Belgians at the moment with a lot of potential to climb further. Excellent work!
#73 James Tagliabue, #74 John Kennedy and #75 Gavin Mace... Three Australian Legends are in a heated battle this week. All three of them performing really well with new PRs. Gavin is fast catching up while in competition also with Gauthier of France, however he will move up with his pace very quickly. James has a little less time but made some good defensive cuts while John attacked further 6 boards including very solid GV3 and RR times that aided him in his cut. The interesting thing also is at 70th is Ademir Cortes, still 4th in Australia; so the Top 70 will be a good next target over the next week or two for the 3 challengers.
#122 Daniel Pabst improves his VL1 5-lap time.
#124 Samuel Gomez attacks very strong this week with a lot of new recoods on PAL, reaching in the Top 125, and is gaining on Pabst just ahead. He has lot of potential and we look forward to see his climb towards the Top 100.
#240 Lindsay Molenaar has done a great climb with a sub 1'09" PR on MC1 and several more faster times on a lot of tracks. She is really picking up the pace and starting to approach to rival karters from last year's tournament in October, Barber and Vince.
NTSC Activity:
#7 Soul Kobayashi is making great new records with the strong Japanese team and leads again with some fast times, including the IB on MC2 and a sub 1'25" Japanese Record on Rainbow Road. He has now passed USA Champion Joe Bernier and is close to reaching Canadian Champion Chris Balch.
#15 Ha Nyan also managed a great result on Rainbow Road, making a tie with Soul's Japanese Record! He also made some more great records including a small lap cut for VL2, a tighter GV3 and improved a bit more LB on MC2.
#17 Tohgo Ariake drives 7 new records this week, not far from the Japanese records on CI1. He also improved greater on his Donut Plains times and VL1 lap has also had a cut. He has climbed to within the Top 20 and could challenge Ha Nyan for 2nd place in Japan very soon.
#36 Alvin van Asselt sets a CI1 course time PR for NTSC and defends his position.
#62 Emeric Gosselin returns to NTSC SMK this week and starts with a GV2 PR cutting some average finish.
#69 Juan Manuel Arteaga the Champion of Costa Rica is making great progress with more PRs, some of them Non-NBT and some NBT and consistently improving his stats. He has potential to reach the Top 50 with this pace, keep up the great Karting!
#122 Samuel Gomez of France has also done a similar cut on NTSC as per the PAL side, some nice records are being made this week with a good climb. |

#10 Manuel Babjar defends his rank against Italian Champion at #11 Angelo Di Vano. Manuel made a nice lap cut on DP3 this week along with a further push on MC3 5-lap. Angelo however also made nice cuts on the DPs, including stealing a win on Manuel on DP3 lap by 0.04. Angelo's effort was also strong on RR which his helped his average finish close in on Manuel a bit more. The rivalry will continue!
#16 Guillaume Leviach wis picking up the pace again this week since losing his close rivalry vs Angelo. However a strong IB lap and some excellent PRs have made him have a larger average finish cut; he can now see Jonas and Roodhorst not far ahead, with more karters fairly close in front of them.
#28 David Bonne drives a very consistent BC3 course time and cuts off some average finish score with the result.
#35 Alvin van Asselt is only a few seconds behind David's pace, also with his latest favourite BC3; he has finally broken into 1'33".
#66 Gene Tagliabue extends his lead from Ademir even further this week, focusing a little more on some precision Non-NBT including a few key fastlaps. He has another signficant cut and is heading towards more historical SMK names on the rankings as he climbs.
#73 James Tagliabue is unstoppable again this week, putting together more strong records to improve his average finish, he is starting to gain on his brother Gene at this rate, and he has passed #74 John Kennedy who broke the 1'00" on VL2 this week and a few other nice BC3 PRs to defend his rank. James is now #5 in Australia with John at #6.
#82 Gavin Mace has also made an awesome cut, flying towards the Top 80 that he can easily reach in the next week. His new set of PRs have done an all round improvement, and he has passed two of the strong Swiss karters on the way. John will have a battle soon if Gavin keeps the pace.
#122 Daniel Pabst of Germany sends another strong set of PRs generating a -5 average finish cut, placing him near the Top 120. Sven Necker is up ahead for another rank gain in Germany soon.
#128 Samuel Gomez sets a small PAL PR on GV1 lap which helped him cut a little further ahead of rival karters.
#244 Lindsay Molenaar is training well these weeks with another collection of PRs, and further refining MC1 to make the lap sharper, also working on tougher courses to keep a level. She has passed Hakan Cetin this week.
NTSC Activity:
#7 Soul Kobayashi, the Champion of Japan is in direct competition with USA Champion Joe Bernier this week on World Rankings. Currently he has driven some more records to defend against the strong PRs of Tohgo and Akita. He will surely improve soon further, and can also reach Chris Balch soon with more new records.
#21 Tohgo Ariake of Japan gains another rank this week following improvements on a selection of courses. He has made a good -2 cut to his average finish and is close to Michael Fried and thw Top 20.
#36 Alvin van Asselt of Netherlands put some more time in on NTSC this week with a few more PRs and an improvement to pass Jason Fraser. Former NTSC World Champion Stanley Jeram is just ahead.
#73 Juan Manuel Arteaga, the Champion of Costa Rica has discovered some NBT this week and makes initial testing on a few tracks. He has resulted in a few nice PRs and a good cut. He has potential to reach the Top 70 next week if he makes a similar improvement with more PRs.
#113 Steve Bayliss of Team UK returned to SMK on the NTSC side with several PRs to continue his quest on both systems for the Top 100. He has passed some karters this week with his efforts.
#118 Eric Schafer has also performed similarly with a solid set of new times, now leading the set of 7 or 8 USA rivals and also reaching the Top 120, not too far behind Steve.
#128 Samuel Gomez of France, spent more time on the NTSC side this week also with a lot of new PRs and consistent 5-lap driving for some strong times. There are still many karters at close scores that he can aim to pass in the next week. This will place him in closer rivalry with Eric and maybe Steve.
#192 Jacob McMillin has passed 4 more karters this week with 15 new PRs and lots of potential to cut further. He is close to the Top 190 and was a few points short of reaching Wade Allen. |

#10 Manuel Babjar set a solid time for MC3 fastlap ith NBT and is defending his rank well. He is cutting his way towards Christophe and then Armin to make that 2nd place spot in Germany.
#11 Angelo Di Vano, the Champion of Italy had another nice week with some IB cut on MC2 and 4 other PRs pushing his overall stats a bit further with NBT as he is closing a bit more in towards the Top 10 in the World on PAL.
#16 Guillaume Leviach worked only on his favourite Rainbow Road and succeeded with a very fast Non-NBT time for the 5-lap.
#35 Alvin van Asselt does another BC3 cut, and another 0.02... We await a big list of PRs when he has a break from his MKWii adventures.
#57 Geoffrey Ewbank of Belgium has been busy on 150cc but has worked well on his VL1 fastlap on TT for a nice PR, sub 11 seconds.
#68 Gene Tagliabue leads the Australia Team once again with some more strong records overall, incorporating a bit more Non-NBT to improve some weaker tracks. He has made a large average finish cut and is now past Ademir Cortes for #3 in Australia.
#73 John Kennedy followed up this week with his first platform jump on GV1, and now needs to work on it on laps 2-5 to cut a furthr amount to pass more players. His other great PRs were also VL2 where he was the first to get near to an Australia record, that were later improved on by his rivals.
#83 James Tagliabue continues his strong climbing with some very fast records, including a record of Australia on VL2 fastlap! His other PRs are also looking solid with plenty of potential; we look forward to see his climb into the 70s.
#90 Gavin Mace set 6 new PRs, hitting his weaker boards and cutting strong average finish down as per James. Most notable efforts go to his breaking the 1'40" barrier on BC3. He is close to several karters ahead of him, so we will expect a further climb well into the 80s soon. He has also passed Nick for #7 in Australia.
#125 Daniel Pabst of Germany made a strong return to SMK this week with an excellent set of PRs. He is on pace for the Top 100s, with more PRs he will reach there and rival the active karters. Keep up the great work!
#247 Lindsay Molenaar passes a few more karters in the rankings to shift a bit further into the Top 250 Worldwide. She is again pushing out some solid fastlaps such as DP1 and GV2.
NTSC Activity:
#15 Ha Nyan of Japan improves some records on Special Cup, almost breaking the 1'25" barrier on RR, with an improved course time on GV3 and a cut on MC2 with Long boost. He defends his rank strong and we look forward to more new records.
#22 Tohgo Ariake of Japan has had a great week with SMK; he drives several new records pushing to a stronger level including a record of Japan with IB on MC2 lap and other fast times combining excellent use of NBT. He has passed Masakazu and Toshi for #3 in Japan and is headed straight for the Top 20.
#74 Juan Manuel Arteaga, the Champion of Costa Rica set 3 more prs this week, with some more work with MC3, getting tighter on that track to lower his average finish.
#137 Samuel Gomez of France, returned to SMK on the NTSC side this week to improve his overall level, re-writing almost his whole course and laps with great new times. His large average finish cut has helped him climb the ladder a fair amount, ahead of an active rival not too far behind.
#143 Bryan Cochonour of USA improves several of his times this week, getting the racing lines better with Bowser as he reaches within the Top 150. His consistency on some of the tougher tracks like BC3 is a good reflection of his racing skills. When he cuts his weaker tracks down further he will fly fast towards the Top 100s.
#196 Jacob McMillin of USA returned to SMK with some good PRs and is learning some strategies to cut the tracks well. He has so far reached the Top 200 in the World on NTSC with potential for a higher climb soon. Keep on Karting! |

PAL Activity:
#10 Manuel Babjar is working on more records making strong efforts includng his VL1 which passes the time of UK Champion, Sami Cetin. He is making speed towards the next karter on the ranking.
#11 Angelo Di Vano, the Champion of Italy climbed another two ranks this week! His latest records cut him a lot of average finish points to place him at a high position on BC3 where he had a great adventure. Lot of potential left and we look forward to see his journey towards the Top 10.
#35 Alvin van Asselt does his weekly BC3 cut, this time with a Non-NBT time slightly faster, then tying it with a bit of NBT afterwards.
#71 Gene Tagliabue of "Gene, the PR machine" as John named him this month has been at it with slightly fewer records, however very significant cuts again as he climbs towards the Top 70 and is within range to possibly reach Ademir very soon.
#76 John Kennedy has also pulled out some good PRs to keep up the pace and passes another karter this week, not far from 3 more ahead that he can aim to climb ahead of.
#89 James Tagliabue has followed up with another very strong week and is really picking up the pace on the karters above, with another large average finish cut to improve weaker times, he has passed Nick Moncrieff-Hill for #6 in Australia.
#129 James Cutting of Team UK made a little return this week and tested out a few tracks, setting a few new PRs along the way.
#206 Max O'Reilly of the Australia Team dropped in with a strong sub 1'02" MC1 PR, his favourite track this week.
#249 Lindsay Molenaar is driving some more sharper laps this week and is currently working on reaching Finnish karter Tuomas Dunkel and more of the UK who are within range ahead.
NTSC Activity:
#28 Tohgo Ariake is driving more records on many tracks during this week and pushing to higher levels with a good improvement on average finish. He is closer to battle with Masakazu and Toshi for a higher position on the Japanese ranking.
#42 Akita Sounori, of Japan has worked very hard on his tracks to reach higher level on nearly all the courses. He has made a very fast climb and is now #7 in Japan. We look forward to see him improve more records very soon.
#78 Juan Manuel Arteaga, the Champion of Costa Rica has continued improvements this week and is now solidly within the Top 80 of the World on NTSC. Some nice work on MC1 including a sub 12 second lap and others has been achieved.
