Cruel to be kind (Friday, June 30th)
Tom on 06.30.06 @ 08:53 AM PST [link]
|
After some thought I have decided that we will take a tougher approach to "sc" times.
There are quite a few SC times in the rankings which is affecting a few peoples overall stats. It is very time consuming emailing players to ask them if their times are sc or not (when they clearly are).
Ignorance is no excuse any longer. We have most of the current strats on youtube.com. You can locate these on the message board thread. We have strat discussion on the MB and also the set of track rules and now indepth rules which Andreas spent time writing.
Therefore, from now on, SC times will be removed without warning. It is down to the player to then find out why a time was removed by first checking all of the rules again. Then they should re-submit a legal time, non-sc and it will be uploaded.

All work and no play (Wednesday, June 28th)

News:
Good news is that most if not all of the top ten are now proven in some shape or form. Strats are still being re-invented so keep an eye on the youtube.com vids which Luca has been uploading (via the MB). The link pages will be updated accordingly.
David posted on the message board some requests for new features on the site, if anyone has any more either pm me through the MB, email me or post directly.
Ok, so onto the last 9 days or so of activity.
Active players:
Florian Vaz – Most recently improved his RMC2 FLAP, Florian has some very good times and a player to keep an eye on. If only I could read his yahoo posts in French!
Chris Flemmer – Still one of the most active players on the site and has managed one of the largest average finish cuts this week. Chris is number 3 now overall and has Simon in his sights. Chris moved up largely due to two new site records on both RMC4 and YD.
Vincent Zee – Has just joined straight into position number 8 on Av Fin right behind me, and to behonest will pass me at the rate he has been PR’ing!! (Mental note to get my butt into gear!)
Robert Szabo – Comes in at #12 on av finish and looks strong, some good prs and is sitting perched behind Lukas and ready to pounce.
Brian Smith – Now has a full set of times so watch out for Brian who is middle of the pack in position #23 on av Fin.
David Schiering – Has submitted proof for his times and also submitted a tied SR on RVL2 FLAP, well done David, keep pr’ing to catch Vincent.
Stephen Meakings – Stephen has made a couple of prs this week, looks like he’s concentrating on one course at a time by his submissions.
Henriikka Toikka – Our only girl on the site, resubmitted her times and will be playing more when her GBA turns up, good luck to her.
Dave Phaneuf – His latest prs on LC and RBC3 moves him further away from Henry and is not far behind Kristopher.
Pierre L'Hoëst after some deliberation of what was sc, he has now gone back and re-done YD and done it non-sc, yet managing to beat his previous time. Wonders will never cease. Our site champion shows no signs of slowing down.
Lukas Jelencsits – Has slowed down his rapid pr’ing streak of the last few weeks and will need to keep PR’ing if he wants to fend off Robert passing him.
Kristopher Will – Had a run through and one of his strongest times is his RGV1 and his RBC1 flap.
Luca Barbetta had a good week including one important CL flap
Florian Chollet improved a lot of his times, keep chipping them away to improve your average finish.
At a glance we haven’t had any new players, but we have had some players making up full sets. See the charts for yourself and navigate around to see who has been making cuts.
Apologies if I’ve missed anything, I’m in an awful rush and works been busy, busy.

Shortcut Rules Page (Monday, June 19th)
Tom on 06.19.06 @ 05:35 AM PST [link]

There has been alot of discussion recently as to what is deemed a short-cut or not. I think everyone has a pretty good idea from reading the "Track Rules" which are linked on the left bar. This is a brief, short version of what is allowed.
Since the initial page was written up we have debated more aspects and therefore there is now a more in-depth write up of what is considered SC driving by the rules of the players page. This can be found by clicking on Track Rules and is hotlinked near the top. Thanks to Andreas for writing these out and Alex for implementing them.
You can also see what is non-sc driving by looking at the strat videos on youtube.com which you can search for or find for now on the forum page: http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1149674035/0#0
When watching MKSC vids online (on youtube.com) make sure you're watching videos which have a description saying along the lines of "this adheres to the non sc rules of the players page".
If you wish to comment or question any of this then post on the forum.
On another note, theres been lots of activity so far this week and the rivalries are picking up!

Summertime! (Friday, June 16th)
Tom on 06.16.06 @ 02:38 AM PST [link]

News:
Brian Smith – Made 10 or prs and his Ribbon Road time puts him 8th on that course. Florian Chollet – managed 7 prs this week which is good considering he’s been playing a lot of mkdd. Gregory d'Eon – PR’d on a lot of courses this week, he has unlocked the retro courses so we shall expect a full set next week. Well done. Lukas Jelencsits – Has taken quite a chunk out of his Av Fin this week by working on a few courses, his total time has come down a lot this week. Pierre L'Hoëst – Continues to set site records, most of his times (taped) make me speechless and his GV3 FLAP stands out to me! (check it out on the forum-strat video). Chris Flemmer – Chris who is one of the sites strongest and most active players at the moment made some prs, some small (“miniscule”!) and some which will help him get closer to Simon Laflamme Stephen Meakings – 3 small prs including sub minute SGB and a good CI2 pr. Snorre Håkonsen – sent lots of pr’s for retro tracks cutting a lot from his average finish. Mark Turner – 49’51 on RMC1 putting him top 5 for 3lap. Vincent Zee – Dug out his old sc cart and has submitted all of the times which adhere to the rules of the players page, we look forward to seeing you active. Luca Barbetta – Most notably his BC1 flap stands out check the video online, its very impressive! Luca will be looking to pass Sami next but is losing quite a bit on the match-up. Sami Cetin has also re-done his RKB1 prs to adhere to the site rules.
New players: I’m pretty sure we don’t have any new players but we do have some new people who have signed up to the yahoo groups. Although Annemieke and Willem van Nus together have entered a pretty fast Rainbow Road track – I think you should now start to play some of the others!
Other news:
I would like to say a big thank you to Andreas Runnilid who has put together some futher clarification as to what is and isn’t allowed sc wise. His write-up will be added to the Wiki and linked from the site.
And again I would also like to thank those people who have been putting strat videos online to help people with seeing what the current best strat is for each 3lap and flap. Luca Barbetta has been helping to maintain the thread on the forum. I think we’re approximately half way there with 37/80 vids done. This information will help newcomers to the site.

World cup fever (Thursday, June 8th)
Tom on 06.08.06 @ 03:13 AM PST [link]

News:
The competition grows with new players every week. There is a lot of mksc activity at the moment. Firstly I would recommend signing up to the forum if you have not already. The link is on the left. There are topics about strats/vids/questions from noob’s and also the more veteran players. Please contribute in the spirit of the Mariokart community.
Ok, so whats happened in the last 7 days or so? Firstly Dave Smith has submitted a full set of times now and has begun to chip away at his weaker times. Andreas Runnilid goes third on Retro Vanilla Lake 1, his impressive time of 6’72 puts him firmly up there behind Pierre and Sami C.
Snorre Håkonsen has also submitted a lot of new pr’s. He has been working on improving on his first submission set. Henry Heikkinen hit double pr’s on PC.
Luca Barbetta was focussing on GV this week, hitting nice pr’s on GV1 and GV2. Tom Gaffikin also passed Peter Toch on GV3 with his small cut.
Mark Turner made some large cuts to his average finish and put some distance between himself and David S.
Chris Flemmer has been playing a lot of mksc this week submitting more pr’s than anyone else. I don’t know how he finds the time while playing the other Mariokart games as well!
Pierre L'Hoest continues to dominate as the site number 1, he has been consistently pr’ing – which if you do not know gets harder as the margin of error gets smaller. At the moment most of his PR’s are improvements on the site records. Look out for his vids.
On the subject of videos. There are various players who have made videos and if you read the forum you will know that Luca is putting together a video page which will have links to the videos which we have uploaded onto youtube.com. Most people will be able to view youtube videos so for now that will suffice. I will have copies of most vids on my hard drive for safe keeping.
This brings me nicely onto the issue of proof. If you are new to the idea of having to proof times then it is worth reading up on the site FAQ. There is currently no official proof system in place. I shall be posting a thread on the message board shortly which will discuss ways we can go about proof.
New players: Welcome to: Brian Smith Country: USA Florian Chollet France Jordan Wright Country: USA Lukas jelencsits Mark Engelsman
