« English Français Deutsch Italiano Español So... you want to join, eh?
Well that's good... we want you to join, too!
This page is meant to guide you through the process of joining. The process is very easy, but to make it even easier on you and for our dedicated updating team, we have to lay out a few ground rules first. You have to first submit your time trial scores (not GP times or anything else... just time trials) for this game (‘Mario Kart DS’, on the NDS) to our YahooGroup. The YG is a suscription-based email list that keeps a historical record of all submissions online for anyone to look at. The URL is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mkds. You can e-mail your submissions to this group: mkds@yahoogroups.com Next, our rules for submitting:
(1) This YahooGroup is for for submitting scores only. Use the MessageBoard for discussion. This
will reduce the
amount of posts our updating team has to go through in order to update the site.
(2) When you submit times, please always include your: Full name, just as it's going to appear on the site. No nicknames please. We need proper names. Spelling and capitalising your name as it appears in the charts will save us time from checking you up. A list of your new times. We need to know your scores, of course! Whether or not you used PRB (see rules section for explanation) or shortcuts to achieve these times. If you do not include these labels we will assume that you used PRB to achieve your times, but we would prefer you to use labels at all times anyways. Just make it clear to us which of your times are PRB and which are not. If this submission is your first submission, please also tell us your Location. We will use it for "Country Records" and cool stuff like that. Send your e-mail to the address shown above. The message will then appear in the YahooGroups archives after it has been approved by the moderating team (may take some hours). If you really really want, you can create a fake name when you join (maybe you're too young and your parents will be angry, or you're a secret government agent), but if you create a fake name, try and make it sound convincing enough that we won't notice it's fake. (3) To reduce spam, messages have to be approved first by a group moderator before they will appear in the group archives. Most people don't initially know this, so please don't post your message multiple times. We'll see it. What should my posts look like?
Here's a typical example of what a first post may look like:
Hi, I want to join your very cool awesome site! All of these PRs are NON-PRB. Name: John Doe Country: USA (New York) Age: 15 F8C: 1'30"991 (30'9x 30'09 30'0x) RLC2: 33:119 1"50"100 RKB2: 12.010 I still have not played every track yet! I will improve. Notes:
For subsequent submissions, you should post only your new personal records (PRs), not your old ones as well. We already have your old ones, don't send them again. Try not to be like this guy: Hey guys, I got PRs. F8C: 2'00"116 (40'001 40'114 40'001) ^--- Using 3 decimals makes splits 'look' like PRs. Airship Fortress 2.30.990 LC 33'665 <- There are two 'LC'! RMMF 2:44"01 <- Please use 3 decimal places LC GCN 1' 34 "123 <- Please don't use fancy spaces inside a score My laps on RMMF were bad, I stuffed up my last lap =( I used Dry Bones. <- Don't forget your name! <- Did you use PRB? Below are the track abbreviations you are encouraged to use. You can use many others at your discretion, as long as they are not something silly like just 'LC'. Important letters are highlighted.
Figure-8 Circuit = F8C, Yoshi Falls = YF, Cheep Cheep Beach = CCB, Luigi's Mansion = LM
Desert Hills = DH, Delfino Square = DS, Waluigi Pinball = WP, Shroom Ridge = SR DK Pass = DKP, Tick Tock Clock = TTC, Mario Circuit = MC, Airship Fortress = AF Wario Stadium = WS, Peach Gardens = PG, Bowser's Castle = BC, Rainbow Road = RR Retro Mario Circuit 1 = RMC1, Retro Moo Moo Farm = RMMF, Retro Peach Circuit = RPC, Retro Luigi Circuit 1/MKDD = RLC1 Retro Donut Plains 1 = RDP1, Retro Frappe Snowland = RFS, Retro Bowser's Castle 2 = RBC2, Retro Baby Park = RBP Retro Koopa Beach 2 = RKB2, Retro Choco Mountain = RCM, Retro Luigi Circuit 2/MKSC = RLC2, Retro Mushroom Bridge = RMB Retro Choco Island 2 = RCI2, Retro Banshee Boardwalk = RBB, Retro Sky Garden = RSG, Retro Yoshi Circuit = RYC Rules about shortcuts and glitches
PRB (Prolonged Rocket Boost) is a glitch. If you get the biggest rocket start at the beginning of a race and
continually mini-turbo without losing top speed for even an instant, the game lets you travel over all terrain at top speed. The effect of PRB is lost as soon as you lose top-speed (for example, you mess up the timing of you mini-turbos). In some tracks, you can do this for the whole race and cut many corners by driving off-road at high speed.
A shortcut is any trick used to advance yourself in the race by using Lakitu (the guy on the cloud), jumping over barriers, or cutting a big part of the track in an unintended way. The site is divided into 2 seperate sections. One section allows the use of PRB and shortcuts. The other does not allow either. In order to create the most comfortable playing rules, the PRB glitch is allowed at the beginning of some races: if the best 'natural' racing line requires the player to perform miniturbos quickly enough that it will cause PRB, then it is allowed in that section of the race. We say that it must be 'natural' racing, because doing PRB on purpose usually means that you will be taking a route that you would not normally take if you didn't know about the PRB glitch. Although PRB can get faster times, it's annoying to do and can make time trials less fun. This is why we provide two sets of charts: one for people who want to PRB or use shortcuts, and one for people who want 'pure' mini-turbo racing through the course without any shortcuts or glitches. If you don't label your times in your submission, it is most fair to NonPRB players that we assume your times were raced using PRB and shortcuts. It's in your best interest to label your scores properly because if your score was really NonPRB, it should get a better rank in the NonPRB chart than in the PRB chart... but we will put it in the PRB chart if we don't know how your score was raced. If you didn't know about the PRB glitch before reading this, your scores are probably NonPRB. Specific PRB rules We try to make these rules fair, so the point where it becomes abusive enough to be prb-racing is far enough into the race where it can't be done by accident. Below is a list of races where prb driving is possible, and the latest point in that race where you're allowed to use prb-racing. If you think a race belongs here that isn't listed yet, please let us know. Also let us know if you think any of these rules are unclear. F8C: Prb-racing is not allowed, except for clipping through a small amount of grass just after the first MT of the race. CCB: Zippers may not be used to prb through the water. LM: Prb-racing may be used to clip the grass on the sides of the road before entering the house. DH: Prb-racing may not be used to cut through the sand to the right of the trees and to the left of the pyramid. DS: The zipper near the end of the race may be used to cut through the dirt on the last corner. MC: Prb-racing may not be used to cut through the grass to the right of the first goomba. Prb may be used to cut through the sand on the first turn, and after passing the goomba to the left, grass clips on that straight are allowed. If prb is still in effect when you reach the normal shroomspot, you may not release an MT until the prb has worn off, or you may shroom here (shrooming is suggested). PG: Prb-racing may not be used to cut through the flowers at the normal shroomspot. WS: Zippers may not be used to prb through any mud. MC1: Prb-racing may not be used to cut through the sand inside the pipes on the second turn. Prb may only be used before those pipes on the sand to the left of the straight after the first turn. PC: Prb-racing is not allowed, except for cutting through the grass inside the first turn. LC GCN: Prb-racing is not allowed (jumping off the zippers rather than sliding off is suggested). DP1: Prb-racing may not be used to cut through the grass at the normal shroomspot. If prb is still in effect, you may not release an MT until the prb has worn off, or you may shroom here (shrooming is suggested). Prb may only be used to cut through the grass before the bridge. FS: Prb-racing may be used up to and including the big jump over the snow. KB2: Prb-racing may not be used, except for cutting through the grass before reaching the first area with water. LC GBA: Prb-racing may only be used to cut through the grass up to and including the first 180 degree right turn. Prb may not be used to cut through the grass on the following left turn. CI2: Prb-racing may not be used, except for cutting through the mud straight ahead from the start as you go through the gap in the wall. SG: Prb-racing may only be used up to and including the clouds next to the first rainbow colored ramp jump. After jumping over the gap, you may not release an MT until the prb has worn off. YC: Prb-racing may be used up to and including the shortcut over the water. Other than that, welcome to our community! The MKDS Team. |
