Today's word jumble: C S M O N E E I O

Alex @ Friday, July 22nd   [link]

There's some Proof notices below this post, don't forget to read them too.

Movement

#5 Vincent van der Fluit is back from his holidays in London (...), and he's active again to try and retake the #4 spot from Paul Tanney. He currently trails by just 0.15, having made up 0.2 for the week with a handful of PRs. Meanwhile, #9 Mike Hartjens is trying to annoy Vince as best he can, scoring a bunch of new God times, and passing yet another two players - #10 Rene Bauer and #11 Tristan Eyma. This means that Mike is now top 10, but he's still a fair distance away from #8 Yannick Plebani, and he needs to cut his stats in half to reach his final Dutch target, Vince.

#7 Richard Karlsson is extending the gap between himself and Yannick, whom he passed last week. He's been playing his weakest courses (the one she doesn't have god in) in the past 10 days, and has managed to lower his ARR score to 0.28 (6th). #10 Rene Bauer and #12 David Schiering are showing some signs of life as well. Rene moved up one place, while David is closing the gap between Tristan Eyma and himself. The scores for places #9-#12 (Mike, Rene, Tristan, David) are only 0.75 apart, which is quite close. shocked

#30 Yohan Foog is catching up to Bo Garman, slowly. Both players were active, but Yohan made twice as big of a cut, to now trail by exactly 2 pts. He also became Titan C! Don't turn around, though, because Kristopher Will doubled Yohan's cut, passed 3 players (Olivier Peruch, Julien Boisiaud and Alex Penev), and is sitting just 0.3 behind Yohan and waiting to pounce. I'm not sure what Kris' goals are; maybe he's trying to become the top German smile Well he is currently 5th, so there's plenty of motivation there. Incidentally, Olivier Peruch also became Titan C this week, tying Yohan's score of 3.46.

#51 Rob van Zanten had a nice week, with 8 PRs. He made up 2 positions with his new scores, and trails Benjamin Zeller by a hair. Top 50 in a few days? He did make Hero B, though.

Super Rudmarker Bros are at it again, with another zig-zag topsy-turvy alternating week confused. Last time it was Martin who had the bigger moves (and before that Andreas, and before that both of them). This time it was #57 Andreas again. His 21 new PRs saw him drop 15 AF points and 16 positions, and ties him with #57 Rickard Lindell. They are both now tied as the number two Swedes. Rickard is active and even made some PRs this week, but it's uncertain if he can hold Andreas off. #76 Martin still managed to produce some new scores, moving up 6 places.

#79 Daniel Sloggett jumped seven places, after ordering 20 fresh PRs take-away, a new rank for desert (Hero D), and cutting 9.5pts . This gave him a handy boost in his rivalry. #74 Tobias Bauer leads all stats of this rivalry due to his recent successes, but Daniel now leads in most of the laps. One position behind Daniel is Arnaud Teil, who scored a neat pair of Hero B times this week and cut 7 pts off.

#94 Michael Rosnitschek easily broke into the top 100 with 24 new PRs, passing 11 players! His highlights include Hero B times for Wario Colosseum, which both rank in the 50s. Not bad, considering his AF is double that, and his ARR is Expert A!

Another player to break into the top 100 in "style" was #97 Dave le Clair. Dave's most recent updates were back in January, but in his return, he has improved all 32 scores and halved his AF - from 190 to 99! All up, 21 of his 32 new PRs seem to have been acheived during this week. Needless to say, he passed "about 100" players with these new scores... I'm not going to count!

Someone who nearly broke into the top 100 was #100 James Leare. He passed Scott Rogoff, Geoff Patterson and Arnaud Palierne to get most of the work out of the way, but he's 3 pts away from reaching Marcel Felix for 99th spot.

#129 Benoit Boudreau pulled off his win on fellow Canadian (and friend?) #131 Dave Phaneuf, which he narrowly missed out on last week. He still has Nicholas St-Louis, Nathan Cromwell, Simon Laflamme and Matt Brown to hunt down big grin He managed 13 new PRs this week, to cut a handy 7 AF points. #127 Dan Furst managed to overtake Benoit on the last day of the week, with 18 new PRs. He improved 17 places with these, and reached Expert B.

#167 Thomas van Leeuwen and #170 Jonas Natanaelsson were both big movers as well. Thomas scored 22 PRs and Jonas scored 29, improving their AF by 16 and 29 pts, respectively. They both reached Expert D in their ARR, too. Thomas recently said that he was having trouble staying ahead of his rivals, but he was obviously joking, because he's now got a handsome lead in all the stats. big grin

#199 Alexandra Haemmerling has broken into the top 200, following a handy 14pt cut in AF. In ARR, she made Advanced A. She passed a few famous name with her new times: Mark Jones, Sami Cetin and... Stacy Needham! Is she the top female on this site? cool eh?

Honourable mentions: #65 Alan DeLoriea (reached Hero C), #176 Enzio Fruijtier (reached Expert D), #187 Isaac Wilcox (he's just getting warmed up..), #252 Mike Furst (reached Advanced C).

New Records

David Schiering has reclaimed his previous WR of Waluigi Stadium with 31"189. Second-placed Vince v/d Fluit made an improvement here as well this week (31"26), but it wasn't quite enough to deny David of hissss precioussss. wink

Changes on the Horizon

Derek @ Thursday, July 21st   [link]

It's been almost 2 years now and some of the rules and practices we set into place at the beginning are starting to lose their effectiveness. The system of proof in place has sought to validate *people* more so than specific times. Well, some players have vastly outplayed the quality of proof they once provided, and for the players diligently producing proof videos, this is growing increasingly unfair. Simply put, we're going to look to implement a system that keeps after players, targeting top players as usual. The general goal is that players must provide new proof after a certain period... when that period expires, they will be addressed. A player's activeness will be taken into account, of course. For example, if they did not raise a rank or move more than, say, (x)% up the chart since the last gave proof, they'd be exempt. Lots of ideas are being considered, currently. If after negotiations a player cannot or will not provide proof of their latest stuff, they will be frozen or removed.

I will be passing on the bulk of responsibility to Vincent van der Fluit, our primary scores updater and fellow competitor. The usual suspects will oversee everything; Vincent has been selected to simply enforce the rules. And about these rules... this place is called the Player's Page for a reason. Discussion has been opened on the forum about this topic. Please make your voice heard so we can determine the best way to implement this modification to the existing system. The only thing that's certain is that we want to develop a system that will handle post-validation proof requests, and ideally, stand the test of time.

CC is good, you'd better play it.

POQ

The POQ voting has concluded. The most popular candidate had 26% of the vote, with 2nd place on 17%. There were over 100 votes, which is a bit more than we usually get.

For future polls, I'll start to list less candidates so that we get higher percentages for the top places. The victor's win was not as comprehensive as one might think, but well deserved, we're sure you'll agree. Who will it be this quarter?? We'll find out in a few months, but in the mean time, you can play your butts off and improve your chances cool eh?

Movement

#7 Richard Karlsson is yet another player to pass Yannick Plebani, who hasn't been active for several months. Richard raced 11 new PRs. He is still struggling a bit with Baby Park, which are his worst standards times, but he managed to improve it this week. He also reduced his ARR score to below 0.5! crying

#11 Mike Hartjens has gone up yet another two places, passing #13 Trystan Pugh and #12 David Schiering. Mike has the opportunity to break into the top 10 soon, because #9 Trystan Eyma and #10 Rene Bauer are within 0.6 AF points from him. Rene made some PRs this week and may be able to hold him off, and perhaps both will pass Trystan Eyma again?

#31 Olivier Peruch has passed #32 Alex Penev by a hair, and his wins on Alex cause #30 Julien Boisiaud to also pass Alex. Julien stopped playing when he was a few from overtaking Alex, and has been inactive for almost 5 months now. These French guys must have been planning something.. wink

It seems that it's an international conspiracy, with double-agent #33 Yohan Foog getting ready to pass Alex as well. Yohan scored himself 6 new PRs, enough to pass... nobody for now. But more importantly, Yohan is trying to hold his lead over Gregor Fran, while catching up to #28 Bo Garman. Busy guy!

#34 Kristopher Will made twice as many PRs as Yohan, and is now sitting comfortably 1 AF point behind him. Kris passed #35 Prashant Bhoja, #36 Paul Regeffe and #38 Jon Prentice in one shot - pretty big names in MKDD's short history cool eh?

And back to Gregor Fran again, the #42 player scored a god time on Mush City lap, his first. Some people think Gregor is the future USA #1, but he is still trailing Garman, Prentice and Foog. I say, don't count out #41 Alejandro Hernandez. He has a god time too (Mush Bridge lap) and is active, making 8 PRs this week (twice as many as Gregor). Alejandro is 0.1 AF point ahead of Gregor, and 0.06 ahead in ARR. The battle between these two guys could be lots of fun (for us spectators, that is). Both players earnt Titan D this week, too big grin

#53 Rob van Zanten and #57 Rickard Lindell are slowly making their way towards the top 50, both of the cutting off 2.0 points. Rob managed to pass three players, since he is in a tight grouping with many players on close scores. Rickard was in limbo, being exactly halfway between the sub-60 people and 65+ people. He's now on 60.5, which means he's over the first hurdle, and coming up towards Stephen Regat and Tory Waters.

Two weeks ago, #75 Tobias Bauer managed to break into the top 100. He made 18 PRs last week, and scored 22 this time! Tobias jumped over another 12 players, including Matt Hofstad, Piet den Dulk and Nicholas St-Louis. He also went from Expert A to Hero D. If you wondered which of the Rudmarker brothers was better and thought you had it figured out after last week's surge by #73 Andreas, then you may be back to being lost once again - #82 Martin Rudmarker was the one to stand out this week, passing 14 players and cutting 15 AF points, while Andreas hardly budged. Maybe they're sharing the same copy of MKDD?

#86 Daniel Sloggett made it into the top 100 quite easily recently, but he's still going. His 13 PRs and 8pt AF cut helped him pass another ten players. Daniel is trailing #85 Arnaud Teil, who passed 6 players himself.

#105 Michael Rosnitschek's 24 PRs sure gave him a boost in the ranks, skipping over 10 players. Most of his PRs were in the mid-Expert region, except WC, where he got both Hero B! It's surely his best course.

#130 Karl Anders has caught up to #129 Menno Kos. They joined the site one after the other, with Karl starting off in the mid 200s, and Menno also starting off in the same place. Menno has some great week since, and performed well in his rivalry, but has not made any progress for a whole month now. Karl made some huge cuts since then, and has made up all the lost ground. This week's 12 PRs saw him improve by 12 positions.

#132 Benoit Boudreau had a massive run of PRs, improving almost all of his scores. Benoit was trying to reach his Canadian counterpart #128 Dave Phaneuf. He didn't quite reach Dave, falling short by a few AF points shocked But he did cut 29 points, and improve by 34 positions. Maybe next week..?

#242 Nathan Stinson's small handful of PRs (well, about three handfuls) helped him to a 14 pt AF drop, and 14 positions cut. He's now in the top 250, and he became Advanced C. If he's commited enough, you can expect him to go much further.

Honourable mentions: #47 Francois Chu (making a comeback?), #142 Dan Furst, 126 Alexandre Vaesken (big ARR cut).

Movement

#8 Richard Karlsson and #10 Rene Bauer were the only players in the top 10 to make a change in their stats, with Richard tying Yannick Plebani for 8th place in ARR, and Rene (who is 7th) making ground on Paul Maes before him. In AF, Richard is now within 1 AF point from Yannick, and Rene is only 0.1 away from #9 Tristan Eyma.

#13 Mike Hartjens has passed 2 more Dutch players this week, so if you kept up with the news from last week, you'll know that he has only one to go (Vincent v/d Fluit). Mike scored a great 13 PRs to pass #14 Stefan van Dijke and #15, but he also passed Frechmen Jean Lecureux and Xavier Valentin along the way, and reached Titan A. Mike is now nearly 0.5 AF pts from catching Trystan Pugh. LOL

#32 Olivier Peruch had a good week as well, cutting 3.5pts to move up 5 positions. He is currently one point ahead of Yohann Foog (who is only pretending to be American, he's actually a bit French too), and is directly behind #31 Julien Boisiaud (yes, another French). If Olivier keeps himself active, there's many more Frenchmen to come.

Continuing from last week, Americans #41 Alejandro Hernandez and #42 Gregor Fran are... still #41 and #42. Alright, so no changes in position. But both managed to lower their scores, with Gregor cutting down Alejandro's lead from 2 pts to just 0.4!

Two players you may have seen around the message board are #56 Robert van Zanten and #57 Rickard Lindell. Both improved the same amount (-3 and -2.7). They may be in successive positions, but Rickard will have to produce the same kind of improvement next week in order to catch Rob. Rob has it a bit easier, since several players behind him are really close in score, and he may be able to make it to the top 50 soon. Both players are Hero C and on the closer half towards Hero B, so there is extra motivation to play.

#72 Andreas Rudmarker is raising many eyebrows with his improvements, clashing a whole 35 pts for one week! crazy He flew up the charts with 25 new PRs, and went from Expert B to Hero D! The Rudmarker brothers are quite chummy with Richard Karlsson, so they certainly have a good source of inspiration and hints on where to improve. Along with another 29 people, Andreas passed Jonas Pattersson, and is therefore the third-placed Swede behind Karlsson and Lindell.

His brother #96 Martin Rudmarker had less to show off this week, with "only" 18 PRs. Martin cut 13 AF points to narrowly squeeze into the top 100. But his efforts were overshadowed by #97 Marcel Felix, who also made it into the top 100 and improved 22 AF pts! Marcel has been put into a new rivalry, since he proving too strong is his old one. In this rivalry, he is in 4th place and up against #95 Daniel Sloggett, #104 James Leare, #87 Tobias Bauer and #94 Pete Robinson. Tobias' 18 new PRs for the week helped him run off with the lead in the rivalry, being first placed in all of the stats. Daniel Sloggett, James Leare and Pete Robinson all made some improvements this week to cushion Tobias' damage. James is trailing in the rivalry, but perhaps not for long - he's got a 2+ seconds lead over all the others in one of the courses, which must count for something. From this large bunch of people, Marcel, Pete and Martin all made Expert A this week.

The USA is well represented just outside the top 100. #108 Rob Gwynn-Jones passed 10 players this week, and a similar effort nextw eek will see him reach the double digits ranks. Making a splash was #125 Jake Sopcak, returning from a couple of months of noncorrespondence. Jake chopped off 39 points to catch (and overtake) #126 Scott Goodell, and reached Expert B in the process. Canadian #127 Dave Phaneuf was another person to make a return to the game, scoring 9 new PRs, including his first Expert A time.

Another Canadian, #165 Benoit Boudreau is the latest MKDD addict, slashing PRs and lovin' it. He scored 28 new ones, to improve by 29 positions (last week it was 36 positions). Not much to say about him, because very few players around him are active, so he doesn't have anyone to rival with. But if he keeps up such a pace, he'll reach some of the hotspots in no time.

One little hotspot further down the chart is just within the top 200, where 4 players were making a move. Sweden's #192 Jonas Natanaelsson, #193 Florent David and #196 Mike Ruitenbeek each improved a little to secure their top-200 place (just in case someone new debuted ahead of them). #195 Cameron Tangen crashed into the middle of this little party, with a larger cut than the other three guys combined. He had some big improvements over the weeks, and if he continues this, he'll leave this group to join another.

A veteran played by the name of Josh Lukas made a comeback as well, passing 35 players. Josh last submitted sometime last year, and was able to make new PRs for every single track. Josh is not far from the top 200 now, so we suggest that he keep going. Incidentally, Josh is one position behind #212 Joel Lunde. Do you notice a bit of similarity with their names? confused

#216 Alexandra Haemmerling is gaining ground on #204 Stacy Needham. Just by manually looking over the list, I think that Stacey is the top female player. A few players ahead of Stacey have some suspicious names, but they are probably. So anyway, maybe we'll have a new top girl soon! cool eh?

The largest drops this week came from two recent players, Sven Richter and Ryan Allen. They made crazy drops of 47 and 46 AF points, respectively. The fact that they are #284 and #285 is probably a coincidence. Look out for these names in the future..

Honourable mentions: #142 Karl Anders, #180 Enzio Fruijtier, #254 Jan Haye Klijnstra. Lots of good improvements, but just can't think of anything to say about them. rolls eyes

Alex @ Friday, July 1st   [link]

There are three recent places of interest.

Below this message is the news update for the final week of June (as usual, award are done.. just go to the awards page).

Below the news is Derek's recent Proof Call summary.

Finally, we have a new poll for the Player of the Quarter award. You can see the statistics and candidates by following the link, but you can't vote just yet - wait a few days before voting is enabled. Most of this is automated, so it is possible to have oversights. The oversights we're interested in is if a worthy candidate is missing (for example, they did not yet exist on April 1st but have played well since), or for unworthy candidates (i.e. if someone hoarded for 4 months, they shouldn't be up for a 3-month award). Direct your opinions to the message board, of course - there is a topic for POQ already.

In Lovely 60Hz

Alex @ Friday, July 1st   [link]

Movement

Very hot action at the top spots this week, with #1 Marius Mollenhauer being the one to apply all the heat. #2 Raphael Segas has been missing for almost two weeks, but there is rumour that he has some new PRs ready to report. #3 Jonathan Steel is right up there, sticking close to Segas. Jonathan scored a couple of crazy records this week, so he is alive and well. But Marius scored 10 brand new shiny PRs to lower his AF by half a point, to make it 2.47 vs Segas' 2.59 and Steel's 2.69. This makes him our new champ, and proves that 60Hz is pretty easy after all. hehe

There is heated debate on the reasons behind Marius' at-long-last success. Some say it's because he's very determined and never gives up, while others blame Lady Luck for rendering his two main rivals relatively inactive for some weeks. Then again, a few suggest that because he is holidaying in Holland, he has caught the Crazy Dutch Videogame Player Crazy PR Smash virus, and is automatically guarenteed to wipe the floor with every course standing in his way. I think it might be the beer, but who knows...

Marius says that he wants to take a small break from MKDD for a little bit, but we know better than to believe him - he even sent new PRs just today. blush

A little lower down, Paul Tanney and Vincent van der Fluit are still at each other's throats. Last week, Vince passed Paul. A few weeks before that, Paul passed Vince. This week, Paul passed Vince again, to get the #4 spot. Paul is one of the four "I don't have an ARR" players, so we expect him to be near the top 4 spots. Vince made some great improvments and maintained his #5 position. Both players passed Paul Maes, who has slipped down from 4th to 6th (basically, the two Pauls swapped places this week). You can see in their rivalry that it's pretty tight between them, with Maes having the most wins, Tanney having the lowest ARR, and Vince having the best total times.

#9 Tristan Eyma is inside the top 10, following a big 2.1 AF pt cut. In the past few days Tristan reported 12 PRs, having been away for two weeks. Tristan passed #10 Rene Bauer and #11 David Schiering to make the jump.

#17 Do you still remember Mike Hartjens? He used to get his name on the news every week, so you've probably heard of him numerous times. I've already told you that the Crazy Dutch Videogame Player Crazy PR Smash virus is strong within this padawan. We had a running joke about Mike making it his quest to beat every Dutch guy, even when Mike was still pretty average in rank. Now he's top 20 with only three guys ahead of him - Luke Mulders, Stefan van Dijke and Vincent van der Fluit. Mike made 13 PRs in the final week of the month, to pass ex-champ Fernando Moritz dos Santos. He also cut 0.5 from his ARR, and is getting mighty close to Titan A.

The top USA player, #29 Bo Garman, passed the top Australian player this week (me), and break into the top 30. He also mde Titan C! But Bo doesn't have it too easy, because Dr. Yohan Foog is only three places behind him! Yohan passed 4 players of his own this week, and looks to be catching up shocked

#37 Olivier Peruch, the little Frenchman, finally produced some proper WS times (non-sc) to have a full set of 32 scores. This really helped his ARR, because he was being penalised with Newbie rank for his missing scores. His new scores are both Hero C, and his overall ARR improved by 1.75 points (he instantly become Titan D)! He also now appears in the AF chart. He has been hiding from our sights for months, but now it's clear that he's top 40. Olivier also happens to the highest ranked player without a proof status, so hopefully we can get that sorted out in the near future.

#41 Alehandro Hernandez and #42 Gregor Fran are locking horns, vying for the 4th-in-the-USA spot (Garman, Foog and Prentice own the podium for now). Alejandro improved a little this week, but Gregor improved twice as much, to close down the gap to under 2 AF points. Very close behind is #46 David Lalo, who may also be a little hungry for national honours... let's wait and see what happens between these three.

#94 Daniel Sloggett is back in fine form, easily breaking back inside the top 100. He raced 20 PRs last week, passed 9 players, and made Expert A. Prince Daniel has resumed his updating duties alongside King Vincent I, so now he holds a lot of royal power and commands respect. But then again.. feel free to tease him and send him threatening messages if he makes some mistakes in updating, since he's not fully familiar with the system yet.

#97 Tobias Bauer, relative of #9 Rene, jumped 9 players to make it into the top 100. The Rudmarker brothers, #105 Andreas and #108 Martin, are hoping to do a similar thing by next week. Andreas improved his AF by 7pts, while Martin improved by 37! This seems to tell us that Martin is older and stronger, and must have bullied Andreas so he could use the Gamecube more often rolls eyes Sitting between the brothers is Peter Toch, who continues to beat his times in all directions. Peter made 15 PRs and cut 14 AF points to close off the month at #107.

#121 Michael Rosnitschek returned after two months absence, to report 30 new PRs, improve 16 AF points, and reach Expert B. In a similar manner, #145 Russ Finkle returned after 12 months absence to report 25 PRs, improve 22 AF points and reach Expert C.

No such periods of inactivity for #158 Karl Anders, however, who is too new to have been "away". Karl produced 29 new PRs in the last week, to cut a whopping 39 AF points. Karl was already inside the top 200, so he had already broken that barrier before. In a similar manner, #181 Thomas van Leeuwen (also a recent addition) improved all 32 scores to cut a whopping 41 AF points.

Thomas definitely broke the top 200, as did #193 Jonas Natanaelsson. Jonas "only" made 29 PRs, but he sliced one quarter of his AF, going from 279 to 209 (65 pts!). Jonas is stepping on the heels of Canadian #194 Benoit Boudreau, who also had a great week, improving 36 positions on the ladder.

It must be holidays in North America, because yet another player has made a comeback after a whole year of inactivity. #246 Tom Hummel attempted to join the site, forgetting that he had already joined 12 months ago! Anyway, Tom's 14 PRs helped him break into the top 250, reach Adv C, and pass almost 30 players.

The last of the big movers was #292 Jan Klijnstra, who scored 32 PRs and improved almost 60 places! The Crazy Dutch Videogame Player Crazy PR Smash virus strikes again.

Honourable mentions: Kristopher Will (Titan D), Tory Waters (starting to make a comeback after 9 months!), Rickard Lindell (Hero C), Nathan Cromwell (Hero D), Arnaud Guepey and Scott Goodell.

New Records

Vincent van der Fluit continued from last week's WRage on Waluigi Stadium by getting the lap as well - a 31"276, which is 0.02 quicker than David Schiering's record from earlier in the month.

Trystan Pugh improved his own Mushroom Bridge record one more time, to 1'19"275. Ten players have raced under 1'20 for this level to date, with Trystan leading Raphael Segas by 0.3.

Marius Mollehnauer snagged a 5-month old record from Jonathan Steel in Peach Beach, with a lap of 22"028. Marius leads Steel by 0.03, with Jon Prentice and Raphael just behind.

To round off the week, Jonathan reclaimed the two Luigi Circuit records back from Paul Maes. His 1'15"509 leads Maes by a hefty 0.19, and his new 24"542 lap is a 0.01 improvement on Paul's record from late May.

Pretty much all of the new movies are mentioned in the New Videos topic.
