What's new?
Status Update
Mark @ Friday, March 26th [link]
|
Well the messageboard has been down the last few days because when our hosting company moved our site to a new server a few of the board index files were corrupted and as a result we lost over 10,000 posts from the Mk64 and MKDD boards. Luckily we had backed up the site and messageboard on March 6th. I attempted to upgrade our messageboard in hopes that the upgrade would restore all of our old posts but I was unable to upgrade the board. Consequently, I restored the March 6th index files for the MK64 and MKDD boards and left the other boards alone... so the board is now back up but missing the posts in the MK64 and MKDD topics from March 6th until I took the board down last week. It should be working now so if you have any problems let me know. We dodged a bullet and things could have been a lot worse.
In other news the database I have been using to update the site has reached critcal capacity with 297 members (only being able to store 300). As a result Alex Penev and I have been working diligently trying to get his new database and site design up and running on this server (he has been running it in parallel to this site on his own server for the last couple months as he developed and tested it). We hope to get it working very soon and things will run a lot more smoothly when it's in place. I've seen the new design and database features and it's beyond description and I think everyone will like it better to say the least. I have also been listening to those who have voiced their concerns about the 50hz/60hz issue and Alex's new design incorporates a new feature which displays what framerate each person uses for each of their times. For now this will allow people to see what the top players are using for their PRs. I know a lot of people have been asking for split rankings but at this time I don't think that it is necessary to split the rankings. However this is not set in stone and may change in the future if new information comes to light. We might provide secondary split rankings in the future while maintaining the main combined rankings but I haven't talked to Alex about that yet and whether or not he can alter his database to do that.
So I thank you for your continued patience during this transitional period as we upgrade the site. You guys are awesome and I thank your for your continued support and understanding.

Alex Penev is a machine... plain and simple. Penev racked up 8 new site records this update and pushed his average finish under 2 and his total times frighteningly close to the 27 minute barrier. Will he ever be stopped? Only time will tell. Stefan Baczynsky has moved up into 3rd place and is closing in on Luke Mulders. Paul Tanney passed Jon Anderson to move into 6th place however both players were very active this update and both are getting very close to catching Martin Cesar. Bart Janssen-Bouwmeester passed Michael Jongerius for 9th place and Michael Fried made a big jump from 14th to 10th becoming the US chapmion in the process. However he might not hold that title for long with newcomers Jon Prentice, 12th, and Matt Flees, 15th. For those of you who don't know, Matt Flees is the Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 champion and is already showing great potential in MKDD. To me it's very interesting seeing the best of different games starting to compete together in the same rankings... can GE champ Bosshardt pass Monkey Ball champ Flees... will either be able to catch MK64 champ Jongerius? Interesting stuff people. For the rest of the rankings click that average finish link and peruse it at your leisure.
Alex Penev took the LC site records down to 1'16"868* and 0'24"894*. Penev also broke a historic milestone on Peach Beach with his 1'09"938* 3Lap accompanied by his 0'22"402* FLap. We have our first ever Site Record tie on any track. Fernando Moritz dos Santos and Scott Rogoff took Baby Park Flap down to 0'08"757*, the first site record for each. Alex Penev got two more records on Mushroom Bridge taking the 3Lap all the way into the 1'20"s with his 1'20"850* and his 0'26"447* Flap. Another first-time site record holder is Bart Janssen-Bouwmeester with his 0'32"486* on DC FLap. Alex Penev bested his own records on Sherbet Land racking up two more new SRs this update with a 1'16"487* and a 0'24"501*. Stefan Baczynsky pushed his Dino Dino Jungle 3Lap record even lower with a 1'46"669*. Last and not least Paul Regeffe set some really impressive site records on Bowser's Castle and broke the 2'22" barrier in the process with his 2'21"661* along with his 0'46"492*.

Proof Call #1: Final Results
Derek @ Tuesday, March 9th [link]
|
Hi guys, I just wanted to inform you on the finalized results of our first proof call. The deadlines were all running mid to late February, and after chasing after a few people the last few weeks, we've finally reached decisions for each person subject to the call.
The following people (some of whom were listed before) complied to our requests and met the deadline:
Michael Fried Martin Cesar Geoff Patterson Karel van Dijvenboden Paul Regeffe John Anderson Luke Mulders Stefan Baczynsky Paul van Cappelle
The following people have provided video proof before formal requests were issued:
Bart Savelkouls Scott Rogoff Tory Waters Chris Rayola Fernando Moritz dos Santos Paul Tanney Stacey Needham Lars Nouwen
The following people were removed due to lack of cooperation and/or suspicion of false claims: Frederic Billaudel Guillaume Bertrand Emmanuel Debio
The following players' times were frozen indefinitely for private reasons: Jackson Harris Josh Caudle
For those of you who don't know, Alex Penev is a known and trusted gamer on a number of titles, so his records are in doubt by few. However, we can make no exceptions here and Alex is currently putting together some tapes of his amazing times.
In final news and notes, there were some other players who coincidentally disappeared during the proof call and have been removed accordingly. There is one more loose end to be tied up in this proof matter, and that is with regard to Milosz. Contact with him has been limited and if we do not see cooperation and response from him with the next few days, he will be removed, I regret to report. Right now we have presented the option for him to send a copy of his mkdd file on a memory card to one of the moderators, who will validate his claims and send it back! It requires almost no effort, and is the least a player could do to support times of that caliber. If he doesn't cooperate, I will feel comfortable assuming his claims were not real. In the meantime, he has the benefit of the doubt. The last thing we want is to scare off off honest players, and I don't think that has happened yet. Jackson and Josh are two cases of us taking a milder a approach to avoid unwarranted removal.
So, I think that wraps it up. Expect another proof call in early May or so. Players in the top 30 should read about proof procedures, and also players having unusually high scores on select tracks (e.g. top 10). Players who were validated this proof call will be exempt from the next one. In the meantime, enjoy your karting everyone! And PLEASE...if your times aren't real, confess to one of us or at LEAST stop claiming new lies. You will be caught eventually, and really, it's just a stressful, laboring process that I'd prefer to avoid. Your random name that no one knows next to a false time gains nothing for you...if anonymously faking top 20 times on an MKDD Web site is gratifying to you for any reason, please stop and realize that you are actually less than nothing and that you have probably offended God himself in your comical effort to make yourself your own idol. In other words, EVERY TIME YOU POST A FAKE TIME GOD KILLS A KITTEN. (And yes, please think of the kittens).
This page is the real thing...playing by the rules is a small price to pay to know you're part of the most elite group of Mario Kart players in the world.

Well first off I would like to thank all of you who we asked to provide proof and cooperated. Derek should be filling you guys in with the final results of the first proof call... I think he might be waiting for 1 or 2 more players. Guillaume Bertrand has officially been removed from the rankings and will remain banned until he provides proof. As I understand it, there was a long difficult negotiation process that ended with Guillaume refusing to provide proof and then ultimately disappearing.
As far as the last update goes Alex Penev continues his reign of terror at the top of the rankings and now has a total of 17 site records and a total 3Lap time that is pushing the 27 minute barrier at 27'05". Close on his heels now is 2nd place player Luke Mulders who has passed Malkinski (3rd) and Cesar (4th). John Anderson made an impressive move from 10th to 6th and Bart Janssen-Bouwmeester made an impressive climbing up 7 spots from 17th to 10th. Bryan Bosshardt continues his improvement and got close to (my prediction) cracking into the top 10. He did pass Geoff Patterson and Michael Fried to be the highest ranked player in the United States. Shaun Khoeis jumped into the top 20 at 15th place and Tory Waters barely made the elite group of players at position #19. Sorry If I don't track the movements of all 281 players... it's a bit of a task and something that will hopefully be made easier in the future with the new site design. But don't worry we have the yahoogroup archives and I can easily recreate the rankings for each update so when we go back and hand out awards for the first few months of the competition you won't be overlooked if you moved from 150th place to 30th place in one update. I'll look out for the little guys too.
In terms of site records we've had some noteworthy records being set recently. Newcomer and MK64 WR holder, Fernando Moritz dos Santos set an incredible Baby Park Flap record 0'08"764* thanks to some video help from Scott Rogoff who also set an incredibly fast BP Flap. Michael Jongerius set a smoking 0'28"680* on Mario Cicuit Flap which is currently his only Site Record. Luke Mulders bested Alex Penev on Mushroom City with a 1'37"904* 3Lap and a 0'32"012* Flap. Luke also got a pair of records on Yoshi Circuit with a 1'44"195* 3Lap and a 0'33"592* FLap. Stefan Baczynsky got two new Dino Dino Jungle records this update with a 1'47"036* 3Lap and 0'34"632* FLap. Finally Alex Penev bested his own Rainbow Road 3Lap record pusing it even closer to that 3 minute barrier with a 3'00"869*.
