What's new?
Oversight

On the last update I was totally going to mention Paul Tanney and Shaun Tanney. My normal timesheet updater Daniel Sloggett was experiencing internet difficulties and was unreachable. Paul and his brother Shaun stepped up and did the timesheet update which was about 2 weeks worth of posts. A big THANK YOU goes out to them for being so dedicated to the site and for sacrifcing their time. I'd also like to thank everyone who is participating in this site because it's grown passed my wildest expectations. At our current pace we will pass the MK64 player's page in terms of total member pretty soon and they have been around for almost 7 years! All I can really say is: unbelievable!

Proof Status
Derek @ Wednesday, February 18th [link]

Hi all, I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed on how the proof call is going. So far the following people have been validated since the call:
Michael Fried Karel van Dijvenboden Martin Cesar Scott Rogoff Geoff Patterson Karel van Dijvenboden Paul Regeffe John Anderson**(proof mailed)
Thank you all for your cooperation. The following players are believed to have their proof process in progress:
Stefan Baczynsky Paul van Cappelle Luke Mulders
I expect all three to be validated very soon. As always there are certain individuals I'm having difficulty contacting:
JOSH CAUDLE MILOSZ MALKINSKI CHRISTOPH PIJPELINK JACKSON HARRIS
Christoph and Milosz have each replied to me exactly once but have since fallen silent. If either of you are reading this, email me immediately, Derek@the-elite.net. Same goes for Jackson and Josh, who I am more concerned about. If anyone has contact with either of them, please help me reach them so we can discuss proof matters. I believe that these are honest players and do not want to remove any of them.
On a final note, Guillaume Bertrand's times are being taken down. He disappeared amid a difficult negotiation process and hasn't been heard from in about 3 weeks. Taking him down is the only reasonable course of action right now.
On a lighter note, thanks to the proof call, you can now call the rankings doubt-free!! Penev is taping (for newbs who didn't know, he's a thoroughly proven gamer anyhow) and I recommend you up-and-comers do the same. This is not the last proof call (note: players validated this call will most likely be exempt from the next call).

If you want you can now visit this page using the URL: http://mkdd.mariokart64.com
You can still get to this site using http://www.mariokart64.com/mkdd but I think http://mkdd.mariokart64.com is more stylish

Hell Freezes Over

OK I'm gonna get right to the good stuff. Alex Penev has distanced himself from the field claiming 14 of 16 FLap site records and 9 3Lap site records along with a commanding lead in Average Finish and Totals. Milosz Malinski from Canada has passed Martin Cesar in Average Finish for 2nd place and those two are pretty equally matched as they chase Penev. Luke Mulders moved up into 4th place and Stefan Baczynsky made an impressive move all the way up to 5th place. Other big climbers this update include Paul Tanney (8th), Michael Jongerius (11th), Bryan Bosshardt (15th), Bart Jansen-Bouwmeester (17th) and Tory Waters (21st).
Stay tuned during the next couple weeks for updates from our team on the first proof call. All of the deadlines are sometime between now and the end of this month depending on the player.
So for now here's your average finish top 20:
1 Alex Penev 2.031 2 Milosz Malkinski 4.250 3 Martin Cesar 4.500 4 Luke Mulders 5.156 5 Stefan Baczynsky 6.594 6 Paul Regeffe 7.625 7 Guillaume Bertrand 8.031 8 Paul Tanney 9.094 9 Lars Nouwen 11.250 10 John Anderson 11.438 11 Michael Jongerius 13.375 12 Geoff Patterson 14.875 13 Michael Fried 15.688 14 Simon Laflamme 15.781 15 Bryan Bosshardt 16.156 16 Bart Savelkouls 17.281 17 Bart Jansen-Bouwmeester 18.063 18 Tuomas Dunkel 19.844 19 Daniel Sloggett 21.438 20 Jonathan Wheatley 21.844

Another validation: Paul Regeffe from France!
Matthijs @ Monday, February 9th [link]
|
Last weekend I found a package in my mailbox, this time the proof is coming from one of our French top competitors: Paul Regeffe! Paul included the following 13 runs, divided over 12 tracks:
Luigi Circuit 1:19:128 (60hz)
Peach Beach 1:11:960 (50hz)
Dry Dry Desert* 1:34:798 (50hz)
Mushroom Bridge* 1:22:472 (50hz)
Mario Circuit 1:31:808 (60hz)
Waluigi Stadium* 1:42:842 (50hz)
Sherbet Land* 1:18:090 (50hz)
Mushroom City* 1:39:736 (50hz)
Yoshi Circuit* 1:45:729 (50hz)
Dino Dino Jungle* 1:49:069 (60hz)
Bowser's Castle* 2:23:769 (50hz) 2:23:303 (50hz)
Rainbow Road* 3:04:075 (50hz)
I have put an asterisk behind each of his current fastest times (as of 2 February). Besides these tracks, I have seen scrolling proof of the other courses. I will be making videos the coming days, if you have any special requests, please respond on this update.
With this, another French karter has been proven 100% legit. Keep up the good work Paul and keep those personal records coming in!

Geoff Patterson validated!
Chris @ Thursday, February 5th [link]

I just received Geoff Patterson's tape in the mail today. Although most times are not his PR's, he demonstrates the ability to achieve these times. Here's the list of Geoff Patterson's PROVEN times:
Dry Dry Desert time video: 1:36:654, best time: 1:36:124
Mushroom Bridge time video: 1:23:453, best time: 1:23:453
Daisy Cruiser time video: 1:43:094, best time: 1:42:662
Mushroom City time video: 1:40:380, best time: 1:40:294
Yoshi Circuit time video: 1:46:857, best time: 1:46:697
Wario Colosseum time video: 2:07:858, best time: 2:06:905
Geoff also included himself scrolling through his records for each track. Therefore all his have been proven legit. I'd also like to mention that Geoff definitely had the potential to be in the top 5 real soon. Good luck!
I'll be making the videos of Geoff in the coming days and putting them on the same server that Matthijs has so kindly provided us with.

Well well well... what do you know? An update! Sorry about the slight delay but we've had some issues with the timesheet and have been trying to play catch-up with all of the crazy activity lately. As of writing this we are just 2 players shy of reaching the 250 member mark. That is amazing for only being around for just over 2 months. I would say that reaching over 1,000 members by the end of this year wouldn't be that unreasonable of a goal. Let's hope we can accomplish it.
On the proof side of things most of the players are coming through with the videos we asked them to provide. Most notably is Martin Cesar and, as I mentioned in my last post, there are 11 of his videos available to download; so check those out! We are still waiting to hear back from a few players. Myself and Derek will be sure to keep everyone up to date on the proof call and how it's going.
In terms of current activity a lot of talented new members are continuing to join. I want to briefly mention Bryan Bosshardt, an extremely talented GoldenEye and Perfect Dark player who is ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively in those games, who has already gotten some impressive times and is someone to watch out for in the coming weeks and months. Simon LaFlamme, one of the best karters SMK has to offer, has also made an impressive charge up the ladder. As always the top 10-15 karters are driving some really amazing times and the competition is extremely fierce. However, Alex Penev has managed to climb out on top this update, successfully dethroning Bertrand and Cesar. Once I found out Alex planned on competing in MKDD I almost thought this would be inevitable considering how he pretty much dominates every game he plays. But I guess now the question will be to see how long he can retain his lead atop the rankings. Time will tell I guess, and with the amount of competition that we have right now it's anyone's game.
Check out the current 'crème de la crème' why don't you:
1 Alex Penev 2.344 (AUS) 2 Martin Cesar 4.875 (FRA) 3 Milosz Malkinski 5.250 (CAN) 4 Guillaume Bertrand 5.563 (FRA) 5 Luke Mulders 5.656 (NED) 6 Paul Regeffe 7.750 (FRA) 7 Lars Nouwen 9.094 (NED) 8 Stefan Baczynsky 9.938 (FRA) 9 John Anderson 12.813 (UK) 10 Geoff Patterson 13.000 (USA)
