02 August 2008: "Olympics next week! But when will Mario Kart be a sport?"
Movement

#1 Richard Karlsson was tied with Hendrik Bunde for a long time, but #3 Aron Langerak's new record lowered Hendrik's AF by 0.03, giving Richard the championship without playing: 2.46 vs 2.5! Richard may have been happy to be tied for the lead, but Hendrik now being only 0.03 behind may motivate him to play again. Aron lowered his AF to 3.75, a fair distance behind his rivals, but 0.6 ahead of #4 Andreas Rudmarker.

#90 Max Reese recovered his top-100 spot last week, having been inactive for some time. This week he made his top-100 position safe for a good while to come by moving up 9 more places. His closest German rival, #87 Ben Zeller, is 6 AF pts ahead. A small topping on Max's cake, he also reached Hero A level. Next up, Titan?

#101 Terrence Fenner is still inching his way towards the top-100. He's making various videos, which is probably slowing him down (less time to play!) and he may be beaten to reaching the top-100 by #103 Ian Gee. Ian powered through the ranks with a 17pt AF cut to gain 14 places. He scored 25 PRs to close off the month, reaching Hero B. On the 60Hz chart, No. 55 Ian passed No. 56 Terrence by 0.07 smile

Brazilians #124 Paulo Roberto Presotto and #140 Jivago Pacheco da Silva were active, as usual. Paulo passed #127 Michael Fried, among a few others, and is now one place behind former champ #129 Cesar Martin. He also became a Hero C player, but despite his rival being nearly 20 places behind in AF, Jivago is still ahead of him in ARR. But now the ARR gap between them has decreased to only 0.03. It's Jivago's turn to strike back.

The other active Brazilian, #295 Alencar Faria, made a 34pt cut. He moved up 27 places and reached the top-300 barrier. In 60Hz, he is now No. 214 after advancing 23 positions. What about ARR? Yes, his big cuts made a difference there as well -- he is the newest Expert, at Expert D.
