Two new Wr's this week plus one tie. In the beginning of this 3rd week of august Myles Bukrim got his flap back on Frappe Snowland SC, doing a 0"05 cut on Steven Gutierrez last former WR. The new WR is: 5"04*! Then Steven Gutierrez made an attack on his brother. He got the Rainbow Road SC 3lap to a 3'35"95*. He couldn't (yet) beat Jeffrey's flap, but he tied it though at a 1'05"06*.
Pow 3rd week of august
Well.. Another decision has been made. Steven Gutierrez takes the Pow home this week, cause of his impressing improvement in SC with 3 Wr's (of which 2 overall) and for passing Myles Bukrim for #1 in SC on Ntsc and being #3 in the world now. Congrats Steven;).
Lucas Oliver also was a very big improver this week. He cut almost one full ARR point and went from King D(9.000) to King C(8.125). His Avg. fin. went from 77 to 70.! The last guy I have to mention is Eddie Taylor, who has entered the site at King A!. Well, that deserves something too I guess, only he can't get the Pow:P, cause his times were probably not set this week.
In the PAL non-shortcut rankings Tuomas Dunkel passed Makepeace and Berger for 10th place. Trystan Pugh gained 2 ranks, and Lucas Oliver made a huge jump from 30th to 18th place.
In NTSC Jeffrey Gutierrez now has the 2nd place in non-shortcut for himself. The Legend and high King players who were active all gained some ranks. Karlo Tomazelli and Jason Engel made their first entrance to the rankings. Well for Jason Engel it's actually not his first entrance. It feels like a first entrance, but knowing that Engel used to be a top player long ago, I decided to check some old updates of the NTSC top25 tables. I found out that Jason had been on those rankings until 10th december 2000. After that he felt off the rankings. Now at 22nd august 2004 he's back, in 45th place...
In NTSC shortcuts Myles Bukrim managed to succesfully defend his #1 position against Steven Gutierrez. His lead is only 2 points though, and knowing that Steven already got new shortcut PRs after this update, Myles' lead may not last long.
Habrich and Jeffrey were busy setting a lot of new Wrs this week. Hab doing it in NON sc and Jeffrey in SC, but also Myles managed to set a new WR. Habrich beat the BC flap WR to a 36"12* which is a 0"07 improvement of the last wr. Further he improved KD flap to a 32"67* with a tiny change in his strat. After that he concentrated on two 3laps. He made a sub 1:51 on BC with his 1'50"89* and made a 2'29"34* on Toads Turnpike. This was more than enough to beat me in the amount of Wrs. He now stands at 14 wrs in NON-SC. Pow 1st week of August This was very hard to decide. There were three players in the race for the Pow: Jeffrey Gutierrez, Tuomas Dunkel and Karlo Tomazelli. Jeffrey improving 1.0 in Avg. Finish in Non-sc, Tuomas imrpoving 4.0 in Avg.(from 34.531 to 30.531) and Tomazelli improving almost 14 points in Avg Finish(83.219 to 69.531). The stats for Karlo and Tuomas were almost even, but since Tuomas was ranked higher and because we doubted if Karlo's prs were only from this month, we decided to give Tuomas the advantage here. Then it was between Tuomas and Jeffrey. Tuomas improved a bit more in Non-Sc, but Jeffrey also improved in SC a lot. Beside that, Jeffrey also tied Alex Penevs RRd SC-flap WR. Pow 2nd week of August For this 2nd week I decided to give the award to Eric Habrich. He got many new Wr’s this week and with those PR’s he became the new Champion in MK64 Non-shortcut with a nice margin!! Furthermore I have to mention Steven Gutierrez who got three new WR’s in Shortcut this week and improved his Avg. Finish in SC by more then 3 spots. Another big improver this week was Jonathan Steel. He totally skipped the master ranks and is now Elite D!
On SC: Jeffrey Gutierrez improved his RRo lap to a 1'05"06*, of which I think, seen from his reaction, was a really good run. Then he crushed two more of Alex Penev's Wrs, taking away his KD 3lap which now stand at 1'44"54* and improving RRo 3lap to a 3'36"04*!!
Myles Bukrim broke his tie with Alex Penev on DK SC flap. The new Wr now stands at 0"02 lower on 3"73*!
After some discussion with Michael and Kevin we decided that Jeffrey had a slight advantage in getting the Pow.
Disregard the colors on the Player's List, they are messed up right now.
New Players
We had 5 new members this week. Welcome to Sean Sullivan, Lauren Scoutar, Stefan Mianowski, Morgan Locke, and Andrew Greener. Several of them are not on the list yet because they don't have a complete set of times. Also, joining on the 16'th is Shane Littlefield, he will be added to the Player's List next update.
p.s. I updated my profile too ;)
The rivalry between McMullan, Keyser, and Tomazelli has also been updated. There's been quite a bit of action in the past couple days so take a look at this one too.
A new Champion: Eric Habrich
Eric Habrich got many new WRs this week. It was more than enough to pass Michael Jongerius for #1 in Average Finish. He also beat Jongerius in total 3lap times and in number of World Records, and he was already #1 in total fastlap time. So, with these wins in all 4 statistics that are relevant for the Players List, it'll be sure that Eric will be #1 in non-shortcut on next Player List update as well! Congrats!
Battle of the top 2 NTSC shortcutters: Myles Bukrim - Steven Gutierrez
Both players got tons of new PRs and heavily improved their statistics. Myles made the biggest improvement in SC ARR: from 1.100 to 0.650 which is almost Legend+. Steven made the biggest improvement in SC AvgFin. He passed Myles for 3rd place overall. Both players also got significantly closer to the top 2 PAL players Penev and Miller.
Frappe Snowland madness
Nine players have managed to hit the new Frappe Snowland shortcut by now. Ryan Duescher is the only player that still has his old-strat 5"40 PR. He's ranked at a mere 10th place with it now... Myles' original 5"15 time of last update is ranked 4th place. Steven Gutierrez is the current WR holder with 5"09.
Amazing King activity
Lots of King players are storming the ranks this week. Martin McMullan, Richard Keyser and Karlo Tomazelli all improved their ARR scores by around 0.300 points. Trystan Pugh, Jason Engel and Lucas Oliver got even bigger improvements. They all got a rank promotion, and Pugh and Engel both passed Keyser and Tomazelli.
Other highlights
- Congrats to Tuomas Dunkel and Josh Caudle for reaching Legend C and Legend D respectively.
- Jonathan Steel submitted some times he got while on vacation. He improved from Pro A (20.531) to Elite D (15.344)! He completely skipped the master ranks and the Elite F ranks. Very impressive!
- Jeffrey Gutierrez and Thomas Grandjean both got their nonSC ARR scores under 0.400.
- Jeffrey reached Legend in shortcuts as well.
- Ryan Duescher managed to defend his SC AvgFin score well, despite losing 9 points on FS SC flap.
- Ben Miller got his SC ARR score to 0.250, the lowest score ever, thanks to the new FS SC strat.
- A group of Semi-pro/Expert players are making good progress: Scott Burtis, Pat Bertovich, Robin Usher, Rafael Pissolato.
- A group of new players joined: Sean Sullivan from the USA joins as Advanced F. A group of friends from Florida and Canada joined with some times: Lauren Soutar, Stefan Mianowski, Morgan Locke and Andrew Greener. Their ranks are quite low, mainly because they don't have complete sets of times yet.
- I counted 36 active players, of which 5 new members. I can't remember ever having seen so many active players...
For anyone who couldn't find it, the link to the rivalries page can be found in the Misc. section of the site.
New Player
Welcome to Andrew Snajder, who joined the site, but is not on the player's list yet because his times are not complete yet. Keep up the good work, Andrew!
World Record
The only time that hasn't been sufficiently covered, I believe, is the new Mario Raceway shortcut lap World Record by Steven Gutierrez, which is now 15"46*
Enough major movers in the other ranks as well:
- Andy Launspach still getting closer to Legend. ARR = 5.875 now.
- Martin McMullan: ARR from 7.9 to 7.1
- Karlo Tomazelli pulled away from basically everyone who was ranked close to him. He even passed Jason Engel. His ARR score went from 9.969 (King F) to 8.375 (King C).
- Lucas Oliver: although he was left behind by Karlo, he did reach King F and improved 0.8 ARR points, which is still a great achievement...
- Dan Edeen: Elite C to Elite B, and a 1.2 point ARR cut.
- Pat Bertovich: From Expert D to Semi-Pro F.
- Robin Usher: Interesting story: One year ago he entered the site at around #250 on ARR. One year later, after learning how to do MTs and after passing quite a lot of players his rank was still #250 because so many other people joined in the meantime and passed Robin. All points Robin got were just used to prevent himself from falling down the ranks. But this week, it looked like PRs were coming easier, and he finally managed to climb up on the rankings. He went from #250 (Adv.A) to #236 (Exp.D).
Many other people were active. Check the stats yourself for it.
But yesterday it all came to an end... Myles Bukrim discovered a new strategy that allowed him to crush all those 5"40-5"47 times.
Here's the legendary video:
--> Frappe Snowland 5"15 by Myles Bukrim <--
After Rainbow Road spiral and Luigi Raceway MyleStyle, this is the third major new shortcut, that Myles managed to discover and/or perform first. What shall we call this? FS flap SC v 2.0? Mylestyle2?
Anyhow, one person quickly picked up this strat. Steven Gutierrez has improved the WR to 5"09 now. And it seems faster times are still possible.
It all Started late last night when Myles Bukrim, using a new strategy, took the Frappe Snowland shortcut lap down to 5"15, cutting "25 seconds off of the old World Record of 5"40. A frenzy ensued and shortly after he had the video online. Less than a few hours after this, Steven Gutierrez passed Myles Bukrim with 5"12, and then a short time after this, set the current World Record at 5"09*. Someone should have a video for the new strategy online soon. We'll keep you advised.
Awards
Jeffrey Gutierrez takes both awards this week (POW and POM). And he easily does so, consistently improving his times during those time spans and climbing the ranks at a very fast pace.
Other karters to mention during the month are Karlo Tomazelli (new member already King), Lucas Oliver (who himself is almost King as well), Matthew Little (consistent driving and now Elite), Jason Engel (Elite B to King D), Andy Launspach (King C to King A, and quite unlucky with some awards during the past few weeks) and Tuomas Dunkel (reaching Legend D with strong prs at the end of the month).
In other news, Neil Marsden's awards have been removed from the POW points page.
Last update
Yep, this was my last update. I've just finished university, and will soon be looking for a job, and I feel that video games don't fit in this new life, so I won't be updating those pages anymore. I've enjoyed it very much and I wish to thank all the people who have supported me during the past year. The person who will replace me is Michael Jongerius; he will be starting on the 9th and I wish him the best of luck.
On the PAL rankings Lucas Oliver entered the non-shortcut rankings. Tuomas Dunkel and Thomas Grandjean climbed a few spots in shortcuts.
Jeffrey Gutierrez is closing in on Kevin Booth. Tim Everett got his ARR score under 1.000. Tuomas Dunkel made a big jump, passing 4 players in ARR and reaching Legend D.
King D players Jason Engel and Richard Keyser both improved their stats and are tied in ARR now. Two of the three promising Elite A players from last update managed to reach King F now. Karlo Tomazelli improved by about 0.7 ARR points to reach King F, Dean Barnhart improved by about 0.6 ARR points to reach King F and Lucas Oliver improved by about 0.7 ARR points to get close to King F. Tomazelli also reached King D in shortcuts.
Matthew Little joined the Elite ranks. Scott Burtis, who joined earlier this week, went from Intermediate A to Expert F, just behind Rafael Pissolato who also joined earlier this week. Robin Usher got himself a place in the top 250 in ARR. Patrick James got a complete set of non-shortcut times, and he climbed from 164 to 131 on shortcut AvgFin.
