I finally got off my lazy duff and got them done. I could have put more into it, but I think this is enough for me. I had my cable out a few days due to that lame storm that hit Saint Louey, so here I am. I'll upload some vids from the competition soon, but for now, enjoy the rundown of the tourney, and a few comments the players left :)

The rivalries have been updated.

The great battle between Josh Layne and Vincent Tolhuis continued in their rivalry. Josh held the lead at last update, but Vincent was improving fast. This time, Vincent split his attention between SC and Non-SC, so his improvement in this rivalry was a little slower. He did manage to pass Josh by a couple rivalry AF points, until Josh posted his PRs that made him the newest Legend+! These PRs also caused him to be tied with Vincent in both Rivalry AF and Rivalry Records. For the first time ever, two people were tied for the lead in a rivalry. So Josh stays on top, as a reward for reaching Legend+ and having the better ARR. He'll have to keep working if he wants to keep the lead though.

Vincent also reached Legend+, but he did it in SCs! Vincent worked on improving his times in both areas this update. He still hasn't beaten the last two rivalry records of Pat Bertovich though.

There is another very close non-sc battle going on, and that is between Glyn Valentine and John Santamaria. Glyn quickly took a large lead in the rivalry when it was first posted on the site, but since then he's been quiet, and John has been cutting into his lead ever since. This continued, with John scoring lots of PRs at different stages. He and Glyn also both got PRs at KTB flap together. John's beat Glyn's old record, but Glyn's new one beat John's right back. This small, single PR by Glyn was enough to keep the lead in the rivalry, barely. Glyn and John are now tied in rivalry AF, but Glyn holds the lead in records, and therefore keeps his #1 spot, at least until next update.

We had a change in the Elite rivalry. George Dimitriou, who started far behind the other three members of the rivalry but quickly passed them and took nearly all the rivalry records, has moved on from the rivalry. He has been replaced by Matt Nissenbaum, who is Elite F. Matt was in 4th place, behind the other three, but has been PRing quickly and could be following in George's footsteps. One sign of this is his first two rivalry records. They are at WS, the same place that George got his. Will Matt breeze through Robin, Fabio, and Luiz like George did, or will they make passing them more difficult this time? Matt is currently in 3rd place.

There are some people looking for new rivals on the MB, so if you're interested in joining a rivalry, post there!

Saturday, July 22, 2006 - WR Page Update - by Pier-Yves at 10:42 pm
Since last week we had a new WR done by William Lacey who could lower his own DK 3lap WR by 0"12. His WR now stands at 1'51"38(37"08 / 37"16 / 37"18). He had a worse 1st lap then his last WR there (36"93) but his 2nd and 3rd lap were much better this time which enabled him to cut that much time. His lead is now of "25 on 2nd place.

With this WR nothing happen overall since William just improved his own WR and no one was tied with him.

2 main stories this update:

Cooper Lovera reached non-shortcut GOD! He finally nailed that very hard Mario Raceway flap standard to achieve his 32nd GOD standard. Congrats!

Julio Cesar Morales continued his insane rise. He went straight from King A to Legend C!!! As far as I know nobody has ever skipped 2 Legend standards in only 4 days of playing in the history of Mario Kart 64.

Two new members joined the site: Josh Griffin from the USA joins as a Beginner B player. Masayuki Kanehisa from Japan joins as Intermediate A. Masayuki's times are still incomplete though.

Exciting times for Mario Kart 64 with William Lacey and Karlo Tomazelli beating some awesome non-shortcut WRs. And look at that new member Julio Cesar Morales: Last week he was barely King D. This week he's only 1 small improvement away from the Legend F barrier!

Sorry for taking that much time. Got a job and it's taking a lot of my time from 10 to 15 hours a day. But anyway as for the update.

On May 23rd Karlo Tomazelli managed to beat Ben Miller's 2002 WR on WS sc 3lap. His time was 12"83 (4"09 / 4"38 / 4"36).

Then on May 25th Vincent Tolhuis lowered Karlo's WS sc 3lap time to 12"57*. That gave him his first WR.

On June 12th Vincent Tolhuis went at it again this time beating Myles time on RRy sc flap. He managed a very good time of 31"46.

2 days later, on june 14th, Greg Ihnatenko could tie Myles FS sc flap time with a 5"04** time.

June 20th saw 2 WRs being done. Noth were done by Karlo Tomazelli. He could tie Vincent Tolhuis recent RRy sc flap WR with a 31"46**. And he also managed to land a rather hard sc on first try which is rare but that first try was also a WR time! He could beat Myles and Greg Fs sc flap time by 0"03 with a 5"01*. He said he even missed the shrooming so it can go below 5 seconds!

On June 26th, Karlo Tomazelli whipped another old time. This time it was FS sc 3lap where he got ride of Louis-Phillippe Sabbagh 2003 time along with Greg Ihnatenko who had tied the time. He made a time of 21"70 (9"81 / 6"05 / 5"84) 0"02 faster then the previous WR, the second lap made it for him.

A day later, on June 27th, Karlo Tomazelli was able to beat his own CM sc 3lap time twice making a wide gap there between the WR and teh 2nd place. He first lowered the WR to 1'05"31 then a bit later to 1'04"59.

And finally on July 12th Karlo Tomazelli took a WR from Michael Jongerius on MMF 3lap narrowing the gap between them. His new time is 1'12"52 (24"23 / 24"25 / 25"04).

So overall we see Ben Miller holding on his last WR for YV sc flap going down to 7th place. Then we have Greg and Myles both losing 2 but greg had gained one by tying Fs sc flap so they are both tied in 3rd now. Karlo gained 1 WR in N-Sc and 3 in Sc getting him up to 18 overall while Jongerius is down to 20. If Karlo can beat a WR from Jongerius they will both be tied in overall WR! Will we see Jongerius in 2nd place on these ranking soon?
We also see Louis-Phillippe Sabbagh removed from the WR chart when he lost his FS sc 3lap WR to Karlo. And finally a new entrance by Vincent Tolhuis with 2 SC WR tied with Steven Gutierrez at 5th place!

Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - News Update - June II/July I - by Darius at 4:40 pm
Hello again, ladies and gentlemen! I am, as you all know by now, Darius Austin, and I’ll be your host for this update. Hopefully all of you at school or college will soon (if you don’t already) have even more time to spend playing MK64, and those who don’t…well, maybe you’ll just decide to play too, so you can show these kids who’s boss.

First of all, I’d like to welcome John Santamaria to the mariokart64.com team! John will be doing the Player of the Week/Month updates from now on, so those of you who have been missing the awards will find them back soon.

Now, onto the action. Karlo Tomazelli has just broken Michael Jongerius’ Moo Moo Farm WR, to add to the bundle of SC WRs he picked up; I’ll return to those later. Lucas Oliver was hitting some PRs at the end of June but remains at 13th overall. No. 21 Mike Simmons had a PR after a while out of the game, while Josh Layne has continued to edge towards Legend+ status, but stays where he is for now, 23rd in the rankings. Just behind Josh, Vincent Tolhuis has moved back to nonSC after blitzing his way up the SC charts over the last few months, but it doesn’t seem to have affected his ability to PR: he’s now up in 26th and looking to climb further. His efforts have also put him at 12th in the combined rankings. Chris Hames made some cuts to jump a place to 42, passing Marius Hukkelaas. Glyn Valentine has been putting in more PRs and has climbed above his rival John Santamaria into 48th, with John making some PRs of his own but not enough to get back above Glyn, although he did hit his first GOD time. Valentine has promised that he will "own Jongerius"; watch this space to see if Glyn really can take down the master, or if John can strike back and regain his rivalry lead...

Meanwhile, over in SC action, Karlo strengthened his position at the top of the charts with even more world records! Karlo started off by tying Vincent Tolhuis’ WR on Royal Raceway flap, then followed up with an outright WR on Frappe Snowland flap. Then he broke the 3lap record on FS, and promptly broke his own Choco Mountain 3lap record twice. Is that all, Karlo? Lower down the list, Matthew Little and George Dimitrou were active players, Matthew remaining at 19th despite a few cuts, while George is up to 52nd after passing a cluster of players with AvgFin of high 60s. Mike Nardone came back after a long absence from MK64 to complete his set of SC times and currently stands at 109. Lower down, Brian Smith improved a few times and is 304th.

Mike was also active in nonSC, where he has a ranking of 68, as was Matthew, staying at 80. Stefan Mianowski made a number of Florida state records in getting to 110. George joined Mike and Matthew these two in playing on both sides, and is up another 13 places in July to 128 as he continues to make new PRs, while Vincent van der Fluit climbed 7 to 140. Fabio Ferreira hit some small PRs on SL at 173, and Robert Szabo was on the move just outside the top 200, making a big jump to 219. Also setting new times lower down the rankings were a number of players: Matt Nissenbaum climbing well with PRs that included his first King time to 210; Elizabeth Mimms at 239; Brent Dennison at 358; Sean Bartz at 390; Brian Smith adding to his SC PRs at 364; and Oliver Peruch at 427.

As Michael already mentioned, we had a new member, Julio Cesar Morales, join the site at King D, an impressive feat. Julio is currently placed at 107 and looks like he will be inside the top 100 very soon.. Our other new members:
Alejandro Perez – 144 – Elite B
Alex Smith – 276 – Semi-Pro D
Eoghan Taylor – 464 – Apprentice F

Plenty of action to keep you going there. That’s all from me for now, but remember…why go outside and enjoy the summer when you could be hitting new PRs? Even better, just take your TV and N64 outside. It’s alright if you have something to shade the screen. Trust me.

Updated. Much of the activity was reported by Michael in his update. The three big active people here were Vincent Tolhuis, who made a comeback to Non-SC and quickly made up his lost ground to pass Greg Ihnatenko and almost catch Josh Layne, John Santamaria, who got his first two GOD times at KTB and also worked on KD helping him get back a little closer to his friend/rival Glyn Valentine, and George Dimitriou, who continued smashing his PRs, getting rid of his last Master times and further increasing his dominance in the Elite rivalry.

Some good activity. Vincent Tolhuis made a return to non-shortcut and continues what he's been doing on the shortcut charts: beating GOD times one by one. He's quickly gaining ranks on his long-time rival Josh Layne, who had moved quite ahead of Vincent in the past few weeks / months. Josh Layne himself is also still active and is edging closer to the Legend+ mark. John Santamaria had a very active week, hit his first god time, reached Legend C, and was easily the biggest mover of the Legend players. George Dimitriou is very close to reaching the King F rank. Robert Szabo jumped from Pro F to Pro A. And many more people were active. We also had a strong new member: Julio Cesar Morales, from Mexico. He had been following the site for a while and finally decided to submit his times. He got a bit overly enthousiastic about his times on the Message Board, but in fact he has all reasons to be proud of his times. Joining the site as a King D player is something that happens only very rarely.

Player's List is up to date as of the 4th of July.

- Karters Contest 2006 - by Michael at 3:48 pm
As you can on the new banner at the top of this page: The "Karters Contest 2006" is about to start! If you were here 2 years ago, you know what that means.

The karters contest is essentially a popularity Contest between various players / members of the Mario Kart time trial sites (SMK, MKDD, MKDS, MKSC and this MK64 site)! You pick whichever Kart personality you prefer (for whatever reason... respecting their contribution/gaming skill, appreciating their interesting message board posts, enjoying talking with them on AIM, etc all), the entire rest of the site does so as well, and the most popular Karter moves on. You can think of it as a Kart-wide "election," if you'd like.

For more information, go to this Contest topic on the Message Board, or click on the banner.

Make sure to get your votes in once the matches have started. We need your votes to make this contest succesful!
