Sunday, May 29, 2005 - Awards - by Michael at 10:41 am
I got the POW awards page up to date. Awards have been handed out for the last 2 weeks of April and the first 3 weeks of May. Basically Karlo Tomazelli and Jamie White picked up all of them with their high level play and with their massive improvements. They didn't leave the lower ranked players any chance to pick up an award...

The April Player of the month award went to Cooper Lovera who had some surprisingly strong statistics that month, and edged out Karlo Tomazelli because of some slightly better consistency.

The Winter Award went to Karlo Tomazelli who went from #14 to #7 in nonSC in those months. Three other players were almost as strong in nonSC: Marcelo Almeida dos Reis, Jamie White and Martin McMullan. However, Karlo got the award because of his consistency and his superior shortcut statistics.

The 1st Quarter POQ award went to Jamie White for his impressive run from King C to Legend B in those 3 months.

The Rivalries have been updated.

New Master/Pro Rivalry
There is a new Rivalry between John Santamaria, Martin Morissette, Steve Bryze.

High Legend Rivalry
Lots of action in this Rivalry this week. Cooper Lovera tied two of Jamie White's Rivalry Records and took one for himself. He also improved many of his other times to reach Legend+ and pass Trystan Pugh to move into 2nd place in this Rivalry. He is now semi-retired. Greg Ihnatenko also took a Rivalry Record from Jamie at LR flap, along with many other improvements. And Jamie also lost a Rivalry Record to Eddie Taylor, who stole WS 3lap. Jamie was also busy though, taking 2 records from Cooper, 2 from Martin McMullan, and one from Trystan Pugh, and also joined Cooper at Legend+. Martin also took a record from Trystan, and improved many other times to pass both Eddie and Trystan to reach 3rd place in the Rivalry.

Mid Legend Rivalry
Marius Hukkelaas improved his Royal Raceway flap time, and Finn Berger made a 0.01 improvement at Toad's Turnpike flap.

Congrats to Cooper Lovera for reaching Legend+! He also passed Bernier and Everett for 16th place in AvgFin. Jamie White was also active, and is still ahead of Cooper in AvgFin (15th place). Martin McMullan is not far behind with his 19th place, and only 1,5 ARR points behind Cooper. Greg Inhatenko edged closer to Legend A in non-SC.
Martin Morissette and Steve Bryze both improved their stats a little. Martin is ranked Master F now. Pat Bertovich, Stephen Regat and Dean Barnhart were also active.

18 active players. Strongest movers were Martin Morissette, Martin McMullan, Jamie White, and Cooper Lovera.

- National Records updated - by Martin at 9:31 am
Greg Ihnatenko got England's ktb flap record from Sami Cetin, which ends Sami's dominance of those records. The Karlo Tomazelli vs. Marcelo Almeida dos Reis matchup is now at 17-13-2 in favour of Karlo, making Karlo the new Brazilian champ!

Saturday, May 21, 2005 - Top100s & Stats Updated - by Michael at 5:36 pm
Karlo Tomazelli kept improving his top times on both non-Shortcut and shortcut rankings. In non-SC Avgfin he went from 5th to 4th place. In shortcut AvgFin he went from #6 to #3! He also cracked the Legend+ barrier in the proces. Jamie White reached 15th place in AvgFin and became the highest ranked Legend A player. Both him and Cooper Lovera have their ARR scores in the 0.800s now. Martin McMullan reached Legend A. Florian Eisele reached King B. Kyle Simon and Kevin Cook reached Elite B and Elite C respectively. Steve Bryze, Martin Morisette and Franck Chardin all made some significant rank improvements. And many other players were active.

Friday, May 20, 2005 - Rivalry Update - by Robin at 9:09 am
The Rivalry section has been updated.

New Legend B/C Rivalry
There is a new Rivalry between three Legend B/C karters, Finn Berger, Jean-Francois Dubreuil, and Marius Hukkelaas. So far only Jean-Francois has been active, improving his Royal Raceway and Banshee Boardwalk flap times.

Legend A/B Rivalry
Finn Berger is now in the Legend B/C Rivalry, so he has been taken out of this one and replaced by Trystan Pugh, who is still playing MKDD but plans to come play MK64 sometimes soon.
There was lots of activity by these karters, especially Jamie White. He took 2 Rivalry Records from Cooper Lovera at BC flap and WS 3lap, and 2 more from Eddie Taylor at DK flap and WS flap. He also improved his BC 3lap, MMF 3lap, DK 3lap, and MR 3lap and flap times. Martin McMullan improved MMF flap and both YV times, taking the flap Rivalry Record from Jamie. Cooper improved his times at KD and RRd, and his DK 3lap, FS flap, and MMF 3lap times. Greg Ihnatenko took the LR 3lap Rivalry Record so that Finn could leave happily, and also improved his LR flap, SL 3lap, and BC flap times. Eddie made a small improvement at FS flap.

GOD Rivalry
Only Karlo Tomazelli was active in this Rivalry, improving his CM times. A small change was made to this Rivalry, changing the ARR to Total Times since none of these Rivals will be improving their Non-SC ARR anytime soon. ;)

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 - WR Page Update - by Pier-Yves at 11:44 am
New WR done by Karlo Tomazelli on KD sc 3lap, the new WR is 1'44"31* with splits of 34"87/36"06/33"38 where he did the SC on 3rd lap. With that time he's up to 6th place on the total WR chart tied with Alex Penev and Jeffrey Gutierrez at 3 WRs.

Saturday, May 14, 2005 - WR Page Update - by Pier-Yves at 6:56 pm
Since last update we saw newer names getting more and more WRs and long standing records getting beaten that show new talents are rising.

During these few weeks Karlo Tomazelli made new WRs in both SCs and N-SCs. The SCs WR were done on TT sc but as we speak only his Flap is still standing at 28"94* while he also tied the WR on YV Flap set by Michael Fried before him on the same day.

As I just said Michael Fried also got a WR and it was on YV Flap where he managed to get a time of 26"25* so he's now sharing that one with Karlo.

Steven Gutierrez was the one stealing the TT sc 3lap WR from Karlo by getting the WR to 1'31"43*. We also saw him beating the long standing WR from Penev on LR sc Flap the WR is now 21"70*. Also with those WRs and Eric Habrich not getting any he gets up to 2nd place on the total WR chart!

Finally his brother Jeffrey Gutierrez also got a WR. His WR was done on SL where managed to beat MJ's time by 0"03. But the most important thing is that he's the first and still the only player to
go below the 1'37s time! The new WR is 1'36"97*.

Well done guys!

The Rivalries have been updated again.

In the King Rivalry, both Matthew Little and Paul Tanney were active this update. Paul improved his DK 3lap time to reach King C. Matthew improved his times at BB 3lap, DK 3lap, SL 3lap, and LR flap. Along with Clay McElveen and David Taylor, Richard Elliott and Paul are going to take breaks from Kart 64 for a while, so this will be the last update of this Rivalry, at least for now.

Lots of work was done at RRd by the Legend Rivals this update. Greg Ihnatenko, Cooper Lovera, Eddie Taylor, and Martin McMullan all improved at least one of their Rainbow times. Eddie ended up with both Rivalry Records there, and also improved his FS flap time. Cooper also improved LR 3lap, KTB flap, and CM flap to almost reach 1.000 in ARR. Martin improved his SL times in addition to his big cuts at RRd. Greg also improved his MMF 3lap time, and got the KTB flap record. Although they did not PR at RRd, Finn Berger improved his TT times, and Jamie White worked on BB, taking the flap Rivalry Record there.

What I have been calling the GOD Rivalry really is the GOD Rivalry now. Karlo Tomazelli improved his FS 3lap time to reach the GOD rank, and also to pass William Lacey in Rivalry Avg Fin. He also improved his TT times and took the FS flap Rivalry Record from William.

Thursday, May 12, 2005 - Top100s & Stats Updated - by Michael at 4:09 pm
One major highlight this update: Karlo Tomazelli became the 6th GOD ranked non-shortcut player in the competition! 17 other players were active. Martin McMullan was one of the fastest climbers in the Legend ranks this update. Paul Tanney reached King C. David Schiering joined the King ranks. Kevin Cook and Steve Bryze made some good cuts.

Monday, May 09, 2005 - Historical development of World Records (PAL) - by Michael at 1:06 pm
For those of you who haven't viewed it yet. I created a new page that shows the historical development of the MK64 World Records. For now it covers 3 tracks: Luigi Raceway, Mario Raceway and DK's Jungle Parkway (all non-shortcut 3lap). More tracks might follow in the future. It's only PAL version, because the NTSC WRs weren't archived well enough in the past. If you are an NTSC player and want to get a general impression of the NTSC WR development, looking at the PAL WRs should still give you a good idea of how the NTSC WRs developed in the past. NTSC wasn't that much different from PAL most of the time. The NTSC competition started 4 months earlier than PAL, so the NTSC WRs were faster in the first year. But after about 1 year, when PAL had caught up, both systems improved at roughly the same rate until now.

Sunday, May 08, 2005 - National Records updated - by Martin at 7:09 pm
Karlo Tomazelli now holds 12 of the Brazilian records, maybe Marcelo needs to make another comeback soon? Jean-Francois Dubreuil gets his name on the Canadian records page with his ktb 3lap, rawr! Jeffrey Gutierrez and Michael Fried both got some American records.

- Top100s & Stats Updated - by Michael at 4:50 pm
Biggest improvers of this update: Karlo Tomazelli hit a shortcut WR at TT SC flap and almost closed the gap with the top 5 in Shortcut AvgFin. Kevin Cook joins the elite ranks and goes straight to Elite D. Steve Bryze climbed about 70 places on the rankings and improved more than 8 full ARR points (Advanced A to Semi-Pro C).
Other active players included 5 players from the well-known Legend A/B group, Jean-Francois Dubreuil (almost Legend B now), Matthew Little, Sean Sullivan (reached Elite A), Pat Bertovich, John Santamaria (reached Master F), Franck Chardin (Adv B to Expert D).

- Rivalry Update - by Robin at 8:04 am
The Rivalries have been updated.

In the King Rivalry, three karters were active. Matthew Little returned from inactivity and hit some PRs at BB and RRy. Paul Tanney improved his BC times and nearly passed first place Clay McElveen. Richard Elliott improved his BB and CM times, and got the FS 3lap Rivalry Record.

There was a lot of activity in the Legend Rivalry. Martin McMullan improved his LR 3lap time to pull away from Greg Ihnatenko a bit and almost took Finn Berger's last Rivalry Record, but was a few hundredths off. Greg responded by improving his TT, KD, and KTB times to get very close to passing Martin for 4th place. But Martin improved his own KTB times and now has a decent lead on Greg. Above them in 3rd place, Eddie Taylor improve his TT times, making his 3lap Rivalry Record stronger and taking the flap one from Jamie White. Cooper Lovera also took a Rivalry Record from Jamie at YV 3lap as well as improving his flap times at YV and LR. But Jamie improved his times at FS, MMF, and CM to strengthen his lead in the Rivalry, getting the CM flap Rivalry Record, and also took back his YV 3lap record from Cooper.

In the GOD Rivalry, Karlo Tomazelli tied William Lacey's Rivalry Avg Fin by improving his KD 3lap time. He also got a PR at YV 3lap. Jeffrey Gutierrez was active at SL, getting a Rivalry Record, and more importantly, a World Record, with his sub-1'37 3lap time.

Thursday, May 05, 2005 - Top100s & Stats Updated - by Michael at 2:13 pm
This update one player made kart history:
At 3rd May, 8:57pm central US time, Steven Gutierrez hit his 20th shortcut GOD time on Yoshi Valley SC flap (28"06) and became the first shortcut GOD player in Mario Kart 64 history! Congratulations on this fantastic achievement Steven!

Some other players were also doing well:
Karlo Tomazelli keeps improving both his nonSC and SC stats. He's closing in on the top5 in shortcut and reached SC Legend A. Jamie White passed 5 players on the rankings, including some well-known players like Miller, Bukrim, Nouwen and me.... Cooper Lovera also got passed, despite being active. Eddie Taylor, Martin McMullan and Ihnatenko were also active.
Richard Elliott reached King F! Paul Tanney is one improvement away from King C. Kyle Simon improved from Elite D to Elite C. John Santamaria climbed a whopping 61 places on the rankings, going from Semi-Pro F to Pro A. Charles Boucher climbed from Semi-Pro F to Semi-Pro D.

We have 3 new members:
Steve Bryze, a well known member from the-elite.net, joins with an Advanced A rank, at #297 in AvgFin, which is one spot ahead of his fellow eliter Paddy Johannessen.
Adam Sheedy from Australia joins at #192, ranked Semi-Pro A. He's ranked in the top100 on his favourite track KTB 3lap.
Vincent v/d Fluit is the #7 ranked player in MKDD and wanted to show he can also be a dangerous MK64 player. So, he decided to join the site at the 2nd lowest place, ranked "kartfanatic", just 6/32 improvements short of reaching Newbie F ;-) Maybe his times will get faster in the future if he gets a complete set of times, a N64 for himself and a working controller...

First Player's List Update of May
The players list has been updated to reflect changes up to May 1. Also, welcome to new player, Charles Boucher, from Canada.

- Rivalry Update - by Robin at 7:58 am
The Rivalries have been updated.

In the King Rivalry, things are quieting down a bit as both Clay McElveen and David Taylor are taking breaks until summer. However, two players were active in this Rivalry. Richard Elliott improved a bit at MR and KTB. He and Paul Tanney both got the same BC flap time right before this update as well. This didn't really help Tanney much, but it was enough to push Elliott up to the King ranks.

In the Legend Rivalry, there was a lot of rank changing throughout the week. Greg Ihnatenko improved at some of his weaker courses, helping him pass Finn Berger, who was also active on his weakest course, WS. At the top of the Rivalry, Jamie White and Cooper Lovera switched places many times. First Jamie made strong improvements on three courses and took the TT flap Rivalry Record from Cooper to pass him. Then Cooper retaliated by improving three courses of his own and taking the BC flap Rivalry Record from Jamie to move back into first. But Jamie fought back again, taking both YV Rivalry Records to take the lead again. Eddie Taylor was also active.

In the GOD Rivalry, Karlo Tomazelli cut a lot off his TT times, taking both Rivalry Records there, and also broke ties for Rivalry Records with Jeffrey Gutierrez at SL flap and YV flap. His YV flap time also happened to be a WR tie. Karlo is now very close to passing William Lacey in the Rivalry, and is aiming for the GOD rank soon. Jeffrey made some good improvements at SL and CM.

- PAL & NTSC rankings updated - by Michael at 6:53 am
The PAL and NTSC rankings are also updated.
Cooper Lovera made the biggest rise on the NTSC non-shortcut rankings. Karlo Tomazelli climbed to #3 on the NTSC shortcut rankings and finds his name back on the NTSC WR page 3 times. On the PAL rankings a couple new names entered the tables. Paul Tanney climbed to #24 in nonSC.

- Top100s & Stats Updated - by Michael at 6:10 am
This update was kinda top-heavy in terms of activity. 10 out of 18 active players were ranked Legend B or higher...

Tomazelli #1 in universal AvgFin
Karlo Tomazelli had another very strong week. He's still 1 improvement away from reaching GOD. He did some other nice things though: In non-shortcut he passed William Lacey for #5 in non-shortcut AvgFin and hit one overall WR. In shortcut he passed Sabbagh in AvgFin, got within one point of Legend A and also hit one overall WR. In the universal AvgFin rankings, he passed Jeffrey Gutierrez, which means he's the new #1 in the world now!

Steven Gutierrez close to shortcut GOD
Shortcut champion Steven Gutierrez hit his 19th shortcut GOD time with a 28"99 on TT SC flap. His SC ARR score is now 0.050. Only one improvement to go to reach shortcut GOD!

More active Legend+ players
Michael Fried showed amazing potential by hitting an overall WR on YV flap, which was tied by Tomazelli soon. Jeffrey Gutierrez hit 2 PRs on SL and CM. It couldn't prevent him from losing ARR points to Tomazelli and Fried though... A surprise was the comeback from Legend+ player Tuomas Dunkel. Seemingly out of nothing, he hit 4 PRs, that helped him get closer to #11 ranked Thomas Grandjean in AvgFin.

Lovera and White climbing Legend A ranks
In the Legend A ranks, Cooper Lovera and Jamie White were both still active, with Jamie getting very close to Cooper in AvgFin. Greg Ihnatenko improved his weaker tracks to get his stats close to Finn Berger again. Eddie Taylor and Finn Berger were also active.
Marius Hukkelaas tried to do some serious damage on KD flap, however he saw his run ended by a game-rage outburst...

Other activity
Clay McElveen passed Paul Tanney on ARR before announcing he'll take a break in MK64.
Richard Elliott seems to like round numbers: He's ranked exactly #100 in ARR, #100 in AvgFin and #100 in fastlap totals. His ARR score is exactly 10.500, exactly one improvement short of King F...
Elite B player Sean Sullivan improved 0.5 ARR point.
Kevin Cook improved from Master C to Master A. He'll probably be an elite soon.
Curtis Bear climbed a nice 18 places from Semi-Pro D to Semi-Pro B.
Expert C player Jed Grabmad was also active.
Welcome to new player Charles Boucher from Canada. He joins the site at #246 in AvgFin, ranked Expert A.
