Saturday, May 31, 2003 - PAL & NTSC Rankings Updated - by Michael at 9:01 am
The PAL and NTSC world records, top tables and world rankings are updated with the end of month times. I also added some enhancements to the pages: The world records pages contain some extra navigational links to the top25 tables, and the world rankings have an extra column showing the players' ranks from previous update.

Some interesting moves: Marcelo Almeida dos Reis repasses Nouwen and Grandjean in ARR! In the Fried/Issen/Toch battle from last week it was Michael Fried who took the lead this update, just ahead of Peter Toch.
Other nice PRs by Kevin Booth, Ben Miller, Lars Nouwen, Ruokai Chen (edging closer to Habrich), Jean-Francois Dubreuil, Mike Nardone (tied Worcester in ARR), Tim Everett, Philippe Leclerc, Finn Berger, Charles Tasserit, David Runnelid, Jonathon Halford. And welcome to new member Sébastien Holmière from France. He's ranked Apprentice D.

- Player List Updated - by Kevin at 11:02 am
Well, as much as I'd like to say it's fully updated and stuff, there are still problems. We reached over 300 members, and even with moving players around, my PL software just isn't working right. New members weren't able to be added this trip around, but I will look into whatever I can do to fix that, and when I figure it out, I'll just reupdate the list.

Anyhow, tons of close battles in here, like Chen coming back to fend off Habrich, and there is an amazing KING/ELITE border battle as well shaping up.

- LINKS ADDED/CHANGED/REMOVED/WHATEVER - by Kevin at 9:46 am
Ok, I'll summarize the changes. Until I find another guestbook, I guess the old one has been toasted. I hate when I have to start those over, so I guess I'm not too anxious to get a new one. The last one had so much history.

As far as the driving help section, I have relinked the tactics page, after editing the looks of it. I also redid a dex drive page. I only put my ghosts up for now, but if you want your ghosts put up, chat with me, and well figure something out. I know Miller, Nardone and a few others have dex ghosts, but I'll wait to add their links for next update.

I removed the Commentary, Member Sites, and other links stuff, since it's not really used at this point.
I have finally added Louis' email address to the email contacts area.

As far as links that I have added, I added Jones' Mario Kart 64 video server as well as his Mario Kart Double Dash experiences @ E3 with himself and an eventual meetup with Andrew Weatherton. I also changed the NTSC and PAL top 25 links to the appropriate links, so you no longer have to filter through news to enjoy those things.

Well hopefully I didn't forget any changes. Now I think I'll finally work on that players list update you all have been begging me for.

Saturday, May 24, 2003 - PAL & NTSC Rankings Updated - by Michael at 3:50 pm
The PAL and NTSC World Records, Top 25/15 tables and World Rankings are updated. Michael Jongerius has taken a lot of PAL Worldrecords since last update. The NTSC WR page shows a 3-way tie at Kalimari Desert fastlap now. And at the NTSC rankings it looks like Kevin Booth is slowly closing the gap between him and Simmons and Gallo for #1.

Legends
Kevin Booth got an awesome Yoshi Valley time, and becomes the 8th Mario Kart 64 player in history to reach Legend+! Lars Nouwen continued his strong play and is getting closer to reaching Legend A. Legend C player Ruokai Chen returned from inactivity. With some nice PRs he got a little closer to Eric Habrich.

Kings
Three King players really stood out this week: Mike Nardone passed tons of King C and King B players on the rankings and improved his ARR score from 7.781 to 7.156. Johan Oldenburg made an even bigger jump from 10.188 (King F) to 8.500 (nearly King C...). And Phillipe Leclerc joins the King ranks this week. His ARR score went from 11.438 to 9.938. He also passed 11 players on the Avgfin rankings.
Simon Laflamme was another active king player.

Elites
Elite A players Scott Brehm and Tim Everett got a few PRs. Everett broke two 1'40"00 barriers (LR 3lap and CM 3lap). Andrew Weatherton made a significant ARR cut to get close to Elite A. Peter Toch and Dave Issen made a huge improvements and both players went from Elite C to Elite B. Thanks to some new PRs Michael Fried managed to stay just ahead of these 2 players in ARR and AvgFin. We might see a nice 3-way battle next update if these players stay active. Charles Tasserit cracked the top 100 in AvgFin, and went from Master B to Elite D! Finn Berger made a similar achievement and even moved up from Master C to Elite D, just beating Tasserit!

Other players
Matthew Cole went from Expert C to Semi-Pro C, climbing 26 places in AvgFin. Dale Morris climbed from Intermediate D to Advanced D. Dominic Badham went from Beginner B to Intermediate A. And Robin Usher stayed at Beginner D.

Two new members
Welcome to Jared Guemmer and Jonathon Halford. Both are from the USA. Jared joins us at #213 in Average Finish, ranked Intermediate A. Jonathon joins at #231 (Apprentice C).

Mike Nardone passed his old rivals Jones and Jeram in ARR and Avgfin. In the 4-way battle of the Elite A players, Dan O'Keefe crushed the competition by going from 12.156 (Elite A) to 10.344 (King F)! Scott Brehm also kept playing strong. Yann Ledrux improved from Pro F to Pro C. Matthew Cole from Advanced D to Expert D.
New member Peter Toch, from Belgium joins the ranks at #112 in Average Finish, with a Master C rank.

Saturday, May 10, 2003 - WORLD RECORDS UPDATED - by Kevin at 3:18 pm
HELP, it's the invasion of the Jongerius! Since last update, he has gotten 6 new world records (all unique)! Besides that, Lacey WR'd twice to make history with MR lap, and Miller didn't want to be left out, so he broke the 1'13 curse in MMF.

Ok, eventually I'll get off my duff and get that validation page up, and get the other links working. Before then, I need a favor. Anyone that has registered through Twin Galaxies, please tell me your TG handle. You'll know why real soon.

Michael Jongerius brought his AvgFin score closer to Steven Zwartjes. Ben Miller went from 1.750 to 1.531 in ARR non-shortcut, getting close to Legend A. Lars Nouwen passed a few people on his SC statistics.
Todd Worcester made an impressive move passing 6 King B players on the ARR list. In the Brehm-Leclerc-Everett-O'Keefe battle, three people were active. Brehm, Leclerc and Everett are all Elite A now. Leclerc took the lead in ARR and Everett took the lead in AvgFin. Dave Issen cut more than one full ARR point going from Elite F to Elite D.
And we have one new member: Matthew Cole from the USA joins at #204 in AvgFin, ranked Advanced D.
Other active players were: Mike Nardone, Michael Fried, Finn Berger, Daniel Street, Nathan Brassmassery, Robin Usher, David Runnelid.

Monday, May 05, 2003 - Top100s, ARRs & AvgFins Updated - by Michael at 6:33 am
Yep, and of course the headline story first: After William Lacey's historical 23"14 lap WR at Mario Raceway, he made the top of the ARR list look like this:

Congrats William for becoming the first Mario Kart 64 GOD in history!

Michael Jongerius got several new PRs, which include overall World Records at Kalimari Desert 3lap, and Toads Turnpike 3lap and flap. He passed Alex Penev for #4 in Avgfin. Sami Cetin continued to set new strong times once every few days. Thereby he's gradually lowering his AvgFin score. Despite getting some losses against Michael Jongerius' new times, Sami managed to get his AvgFin score lower again. It's 2.844 now. It's the lowest AvgFin score I've seen in years. Steven Zwartjes used to have scores close to 2.5 in his most dominant days in 2000. Would Sami be able to beat that? Kevin Booth got a new NTSC WR at KTB flap. Legend B players Ben Miller, Marcelo Almeida dos Reis and Lars Nouwen all three achieved some strong PRs this week.

Brent Wingert is just a few points away from making Legend F in non-shortcut. Mike Nardone and Eise Smit both made good progress in the King D ranks.

And look at #70-#75 in both ARR and AvgFin non-shortcut. Scott Brehm, Philippe Leclerc, Tim Everett and Dan O'Keefe are ranked so close to eachother. Looks like Brehm is leading in ARR (he's the only Elite A player of the group), but O'Keefe is leading in Avgfin. Will be interesting to see who's on top next update. Lower on the elite list we see 2 players who just achieved their Elite rank. Congrats to Dave Issen (Elite F) and Fabien Malaval (Elite F).

New member Charles Tasserit joined with an impressive Master B rank and an even more impressive Elite D rank in shortcut! Two other new members were Gabriel Vlad and Adolf Radmacher. They're both ranked Beginner C. Robin Usher (Beginner F) also improved a few times.

Saturday, May 03, 2003 - Player's List Updated - by Kevin at 3:57 am
Well, I'm dead tired, and I made tons of errors I needed to correct, so I'm gonna be brief with this, but a few noteworthy things.

WILLAM LACEY DID IT! He's GOD! Yes, Simmons/Zwartjes did it before, but on a temporary basis for 3 days, before being removed, since Jon didn't know about the 32/32 requirement. Anyhow, I know some people didn't want to see it, but I just think it's time to let it happen, so we are not tempted to never give it to anyone, so congratuations to William Lacey for being the first Non-sc GOD player in Mario Kart 64.

Other than that, I added Dave Issen to the list, and fixed some errors with the list that were showing players in the wrong spot, or not at all. We have other new members, but until the upgrade is complete, I'll have to move stuff around to get them on here.

Eise Smit, Philippe Leclerc, Ben Miller, Tim Everett, as well as many others really made some solid improvements, and don't forget Michael Jongerius pulling into 4th as of a couple days ago. So much more I could cover, and talk about, since this is a record submission, and I did say I'd cover proof, but with the prospect of 3 hours or less sleep, I'd bettter go now, next update is on the 5th or 6th, for the rest of the pages.
