Saturday, April 30, 2005 - Mainpage changes - by Michael at 3:24 pm
I made some changes to this mainpage, that should make the site slightly easier to navigate.
The national records (which has a new link) and rivalry page have been linked more visibly from the menu now. You'll also have noticed the prominent SMK, MKDD and Combined Kart links at top of this page. And finally, I removed all links to email addresses from the mainpage and replaced them by image files to protect our updaters against those annoying spam robots...

Monday, April 25, 2005 - Rivalry Update - by Robin at 8:44 am
The Rivalries have been updated.

In the Elite/King Rivalry, both Paul Tanney and David Taylor made lots of improvements, each dropping nearly a full ARR point. Both of them passed someone in Rivalry Avg Fin, with Tanney passing Little and Taylor passing Richard Elliott, who was also active and got a Rivalry Record back at KTB. Clay McElveen was also active, but his Rivalry Avg Fin and Rivalry Records have been weakened by the others.

In the Legend Rivalry, Eddie Taylor, Greg Ihnatenko, and Jamie White all made small improvements. Cooper Lovera made the strongest improvements, passing Jamie in ARR and strengthening his lead in Rivalry Avg Fin.

In the GOD/Legend+ Rivalry, only Karlo Tomazelli was active. He did some good work, taking one Rivalry Record from Gutierrez and tying another, and bringing his Rivalry Avg Fin closer to Lacey's.

Here's a new update. I'll try to summarize what happened in the last 3 weeks:

GOD/Legend+ - Tomazelli getting close to the GOD rank
The new Mario Kart 64 stars are beating retired historical players in the rankings this update... Karlo Tomazelli passed Sami Cetin in Average Finish to reach 6th place. He's also only 1 improvement away from reaching the GOD rank! Michael Fried passed Steven Zwartjes for 8th place in AvgFin!
Jeffrey Gutierrez didn't pass any players in the rankings. He did however hit some strong Yoshi Valley times, that were overall WRs for a short while, until Michael Jongerius took them back. Michael Jongerius also improved some other WRs, demonstrating his dominance in the game... Also, notice that MJ broke the 10"30"00 barrier in total fastlap times!
Greg Ihnatenko hit some shortcut PRs, that got him very close to 4th and 3rd ranked players Ben Miller and Myles Bukrim in shortcut Average Finish.

Legends - Crazy Legend A/B activity
If you look between ranks 21-30 on the ARR and AvgFin list, you'll see 7 active players. 6 of them are the rivalry guys. And the other one is Steven Gutierrez who hit some nice Wario Stadium PRs after some time of inactivity. If we look at the rivalry guys, we see that 2 of them reached Legend A (Jamie White and Cooper Lovera), and that Cooper Lovera has taken the lead in both ARR and AvgFin. The other players (Eddie Taylor, Finn Berger, Greg Ihnatenko, Martin McMullan) all improved around 0.100 - 0.300 ARR points.
Jean-Francois Dubreuil and Marius Hukkelaas were active in the non-shortcut Legend C ranks. Ryan Duescher was an active shortcut Legend C player. He cut 0.3 points of his ARR score.

Kings - David Taylor and Paul Tanney most improving players
The King ranks were relatively quiet. However, some of the players that were Elite very recently, are taking the King ranks by storm now. Paul Tanney made the biggest jump from 10.281 (King F) to 8.688 (King D, and close to King C). David Taylor was the 2nd most improving player. He went from 11.219 (Elite A) to 9.813 (King F!). Clay McElveen (King F to King D) and Matthew Little (King D) were also active.

Elites - Elliott close to the King ranks
David Schiering submitted a new set of times (since his last submission in January) in the 2nd week of April. It made him rise from #146 (ARR=16.969) to #107 (ARR=11.500). Richard Elliott was mainly active in the first 2 weeks of april and had 2 more PRs 2 days ago. He made a fairly strong ARR cut from 11.219 to 10.750. He's still Elite A, but he might reach the King ranks soon. Sean Sullivan had a good 0.7 ARR cut. Justin Conway hit some extremely fast Choco Mountain times for his level. His overall rank stays at Elite C. Stephen Regat, Pat Bertovich and Tianyi Liu made some small improvements.

Sub-elite - Kevin Cook and Toshi Miura climbing 40+ places
Kevin Cook sent his first PRs since four months, and improved greatly from Semi-Pro B to Master C! He'll probably reach Elite soon. Rene Bauer was also active. He's ranked closely behind Kevin Cook.
Toshi Miura was mainly active in the first 10 days of April. He went from #250 (Expert C) to #204 (Semi-Pro A). He's only 7 places behind fellow Japanese player Robin Usher in AvgFin...
Curtis Bear was active as allways since his first joining 2 months ago. He improved nicely from Expert A to Semi-Pro D. He also improved his strong shortcut stats from Elite F to Elite C! Jed Grabman hit 4 PRs to improve his stats a little.

New members - John Santamaria and Chad Gerrish
2 new members joined the site a couple days ago. John Santamaria from England (UK) is #225 in the world with an ARR score of 29.656 (Semi-Pro F). Chad Gerrish from the USA is ranked #271 in the world with an ARR score of 34.250 (Expert C).

- WR page update - by Pier-Yves at 4:59 am
Okay so the WR page is updated. Since it's been a while there are lots of highlights.

First of all since last update Michael Jongerius have gotten 5 new WRs. He took FS 32"21*, MMF1'12"65*and WS3'38"87*from Eric Habrich and fought a bit with Jeff to end up with both YV 3lap and Flap untied at 1'25"80* and 26"29*. Eric Habrich improved his already strong CM times. His 3lap time was lowered to a 1'36"68* while the Flap finally goes under Penev 99 lap ending at 31"76*. Greg Ihnatenko got 2 new SC WRs beating Myles RRa sc 3lap time by 0"01 to 1'41"24* and tying Louis FS sc 3lap time at 21"72*.Michael Fried fought back RRo sc 3lap WR and landed the spiral 3 time again to beat Jeffrey's time the WR now is 3'19"65*. Jeffrey made a lot of WRs but in the end he could hold any of the new WRs he set loosing RRo sc 3lap, YV 3lap and YV Flap. Karlo appeared for a short time being in the 3 way tie with MJ and Jeffrey for YV Flap at 26"37 until Jeffrey beat it, so after all he still have no WR on the chart. We also say goodbye to Sami who lost his last WR (YV 3lap) we now have 14 WR holders.

GOD/Legend
Some solid playing by GOD/Legend+ players Michael Jongerius, Jeffrey Gutierrez, Karlo Tomazelli and Michael Fried. Congrats to Greg Ihnatenko on reaching the Legend+ ranks in shortcut! Myles Bukrim reached Legend A in non-SC. The 6 Legend B players were all active, with Jamie White still leading strongly, and Eddie Taylor becoming best of the rest in ARR and AvgFin. Legend C player Jean-Francois Dubreuil got some nice PRs. Marius Hukkelaas managed to reach Legend C as well!

King/Elite
Clay McElveen was the only active King player. He made a good 0.6 ARR cut though, to get close to King D. In the Elite ranks David Taylor improved his ARR score from 12.563 (Elite B) to 11.219 (Elite A), tying Richard Elliott who was also active. Stephen Regat also improved his stats a little. Sean Sullivan found some time to get 3 PRs. Elite C players Justin Conway and Pat Bertovich both made some small improvements, as did Tianyi Liu (Elite F).

Sub-elite
Rickard Lindell climbed a whopping 119 places on the rankings to #201 in ARR. His ARR score improved from Intermediate B to Semi-Pro A. Toshi Miura went from Expert D to Expert C and reached 250th place in ARR. Curtis Bear and Nathan Cromwell, who are both Elite F ranked in shortcuts, improved their stats a little on both nonSC and SC.

Validation update
We're currently in the proces of validating the players who don't have sufficient proof yet or who might need proof in the future (fortunately most players on our site had already provided enough proof without us needing to ask for it). Most of the players involved have been contacted by now and are cooperating to provide proof when needed.
For now we had to remove one player: Jesse Hristovski has been unable to provide any proof sofar. So, for that reason, we need to remove his times. His times are removed from the database as of today. He promised he'll provide proof in the future though, so we might see him back someday.

Staff: New database updater
Louis-Philippe Sabbagh quitted his job of updating the Mario Kart 64 database 2 weeks ago. He did a great job doing this important task for exactly 2 years. Robin Usher has taken over this job for now.
