Friday, February 28, 2003 - POW updated, WR page fixed, New MB,Total times links up, and some fixed - by Kevin at 10:28 am
POW

Well, I have finally decided it. First off, JFD and Habrich started the week at the same spot, and JFD made more progress, so that part was easy.

When you throw Whalls into the race, it wasn't so easy. However, the key stat is that JFD did take off 0ver 30 percent from his ARR and just as Whalls' tear as of late was shocking, so was Jean-Francois D's as far as capitalizing and taking Habrich out of the figurings. Check the POW page for who won.

JFD 7.063 -> 5.063
HAB 7.063 -> 5.219
JW 2.250 -> 1.938

The Rest

I fixed Louis' WR date from the 24th to the 22nd, and the new message board is now at the links, so no need to scroll down anymore to get that. Also, I got Todd Worcester's Total Times pages up as well. Beaus stuff will be under historical for now. I also fixed the 2001 POW to show the winners, as well as put an archive up for the news that wasn't on the news editor for awhile.

There will be one more update after the 28th ends, as far as I go, and Liem will probably update his statistics on the first, so if you guys have PRs to report, you'd better do so today, cause I will not be touching this kart page for any reason until the 8th, cause work will be getting very busy, and I have Xenosaga, so this is it. Get in those times!

Thursday, February 27, 2003 - Players List updated - by Kevin at 10:35 pm
Well, I got a fresh PL up reflecting everything that went down up til midnight nearly as 26th turns to 27th. Tons of movement there, but I will discuss that later, as well as who won POW, and so much more. I still haven't decided POW yet. I need to fix a few pages too, including the main page with new links, the WR page with the correct date for Louis' time, and of course, update the POW page and so forth with the new PoW, once I decide it. More news soon.

Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - WHO WON POW? - by Kevin at 11:05 am
So did Eric Win or did JFD pull it off? Or maybe.... NEITHER??!?!??!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?

Yes, this is very possible, and cause of the events that unfolded on the last day of the POW week, this has now become a three-way battle for POW! Who did it? Was in Horst, was it Worcester, was it even Marcelo Almeida Dos Reis? Nope, try again.

JASON WHALLS

He ripped off a 6 PR day, that included many rank changes, a double pr race, sub 2 ARR, and lastly, 52/52 LD! Sure, Penev has 52/52 LB, but still, Jason Whalls is only the second player in history to achieve this, and Alex sure as heck didn't do it on the last day of a POW week that may be the most exciting one since Bukrim vs Johnson, which ended up motivating Bukrim to be one of the best in the world, and Johnson to an early retirement. So much is banking on this decision, and since I got 2 movies, basketball, and then 24 on Fox to watch, I will have to put that on hold until I can make complete analysis, so until then.....

Monday, February 24, 2003 - INSANE UPDATING - by Kevin at 11:33 am
Summary

Ok, I just got done uploading the players lists, the world record pages, and every legend profile that needed to be fixed on the players list. There now should be no 404 problems on the players list for Legends, at this time. I also corrected Louis' name like all over the place. ITS PHILIPPE!!! Man, I just have a hell of a time with that name. If you find it misspelled anywhere else on the site, please bring it to my attention, except the top 100 stuff that Liem does, cause well, the timesheet also had his name spelled wrong too.

Also, I credited Louis with that WR on the WR page, and fixed Laceys world record, to the one on may of 2002, instead of that one that was mentioned on the message board. Good Eye, Scott!

Well that is about it. I will be back tomorrow morning to update the PL one last time, as well as annouce who has won what might be the most important POW race in a very long time. Who will win? Habrich or JFD. I know as of now, I would have to most likely give it to JFD, but that doesn't mean Jack until midnight my time, so keep playing, or well, kiss that award goodbye ;)

With 13 hours left in this POW week, you can check out where everyone ranks in the ARR and Average finish rankings.
Eric Habrich did a fantastic job by reaching Legend F status from Elite A in a record-breaking 23 days. This is really one of the most outstanding achievements in Mario Kart 64 ever.
And then, utterly amazing and completely unexpected was the response of his rival Jean-Francois Dubreuil. While Habrich got his ARR score from 7.063 to 5.469, JFD even surpassed him this week by going from 7.438 to 5.250!!! These two guys just seem to have unlimited Mario Kart 64 potential...

Other people also showed great karting activity. Some highlights: Kevin Booth got a few steps closer to the Legend+ ranks. Marcelo Almeida dos Reis gets his ARR under 3.000. Simon Laflamme and Todd Worcester get their ranking promotions to King C and King D respectively. Scott Brehm climbs from Master F to Elite D! And we can welcome a new member: Philippe Leclerc (Pro B in non-shortcut)

- Yep, This is a special occasion - by Kevin at 2:15 am
Well I'd like to say that PL and WR page for Louis is updated, but the server isn't cooperating at the moment, so the joke is on me I suppose.

JFD VS HABRICH update

Anyhow, you notice how JFD was King A and behind Habrich on the PL update, and how I said he was LF. Well that is cause his PRs weren't in time for the last PL update, however, you will notice that he is storming now!

28 Jean-Francois Dubreuil Legend F shadejf666 Sherbrooke, Quebec
29 Dave Hines Legend F Doneye Doncaster, England
30 Dave Crawford Legend F BNLCOLLECTOR Dearborn Heights, Michigan
31 Beau Fairbourn King A beau2f Potomac, Maryland
32 Iacopo Sorce King A Nai1105 Rome, Italy
33 Steve Habrich Legend F Eric Habrich Beatrice, Nebraska

That is how the current PL looks, if PARACOM would not crash cuteftp ;)

WR news and Whalls

First off, Louis set a new world record on FS SC 3lap once more, as he shaves another .05 off his previous time for a 21"72! He won't rest until he makes 21"50s, as Weatherton estimates will happen with the left strategy.

Lastly, I forgot to tell you about Whalls' results, not due to him being lazy with submissions (we got a few of those these days), but cause the players list would not color his name orange when I did the players list update, and since I usually wait for Liem to do his stuff for the PL, I usually use his charts to go with the news.

However, I updated first so, I relyed on the players list. Anyhow, Whalls is very close to passing veteran and retired, Peter Elsaesser. I remember when passing him for the last time gave me much joy, and Whalls is 3-5 improvements away from doing so on the players list for both ranking and standardization.

Submissions

I know you've heard it before, and it's on the pages, but I must stress this again. When you set personal records, PLEASE submit them on the day that you set them, and one email per day is prefered, unless of course, you are involved in a battle like we've had with HAB and JFD or of course, a world record was set.

Basically, I've found myself having to forward tons of times lately, and when the top submitter is KevinBooth1@attbi.com, it's either cause I'm having a really wet dream, or I'm forwarding a sick amount of times, and I think we both know how pathetic that part of my life is, so we know which one it is.

Ok, if you don't have net access, I can accept that, and yes, there was spam and HTML disabled, so I did submit for a few of you, but it works now, so this should no longer be a problem.

Get a PR, THEN CLICK ME DAMN IT!

Ok enough said.

Sunday, February 23, 2003 - Players List Updated - by Kevin at 4:58 pm
Jean Francois Dubreuil VS Eric Habrich

Well, as of the last players list update, Eric Habrich repassed Dub's and became Legend. However, I have been informed that Jean-Francois refuses to give up his position to Eric, as well as the player of the week award, and proves it by playing for slightly over 2 hours, and he claims that he has repassed him!

We have the first real nice dual in kart for a long time in the works. We all thought Eric would continue dominating, but Jean-Francois is not giving up that easy. There is one more day in this POW, so who knows what is going down next here.

I plan on updating the players list during the AM hours to reflect JFD's new PRs, as well as any PRs Eric gets in defense.

Player News

Just when you all thought Kart was dead, we got some serious action going on.

Michael Jongerius got TT 3lap below mine, in quest of catching me, however, I have put up 3 new records (all in same day, w/two god times). Marcelo has broken 3 in ARR, Grandjean made a few prs to stay in teh hunt near Marcelo as well.

As far as Kings go, Kevin Horst added a couple prs, and Simon Laflamme is starting to heat up in the King C area. Ryan Wiley is not as on fire as before, but he's staying active, cause Todd Worcester is really starting to put in some quality time with the game.

Pier-Yves Lemire is leading the charge with the Elites and will become king very soon. Scott Brehmn released his comeback times, which also put him in the Elite area, at Elite D, and Tim Everett is just narrowly behind him at Elite F.

New Member Philippe Laclerc debuts at Professional B, just ahead of Steven Gutierrez, which is back from the hospital, and is ready to become an active participant on the ladder. Lastly, Malcolm Young just got in his rainbow times, so now he's rated on the ladder at Expert C and 165th place.

Shorcutting has a few highlights. Louis passed Whalls on the ladder, with a few skilled improvements. Lemire broke the top 25 with his feats (King F), and Steve had a couple well-placed improvements to place himself 33rd and Elite A.

Malcolm Young is Elite F and 55th, and Jean-Francois Dubreuil is right behind him at 56th and Elite F as well. Simon Laflamme hit rainbow road for 73rd, but due to only having one course time, he's not yet rated enough to get Elite F Status.

I have added a new messageboard! Go and check it out

Monday, February 17, 2003 - Total Times Update - by Todd at 11:54 am
That's right, for the first time since October the Totals Times are up to date. Obviously there has been a lot of movement since then, so be sure to check it out. If you see anything wrong with your times please either email me or contact me on AIM (my screen name is toddworcester8) as I'm sure I probably made a couple of mistakes. For now, the Totals Times pages can be viewed here:

- POW and POINTS Updated - by Kevin at 10:42 am
Yep, You will no longer get a 404 error on POW 2003. They have been done, but you guys pretty much know who won most of them, so it should be no mystery.

Will anyone stop Habrich? This guy is just amazing. He is what, King B now, and I'm barely seeing any slowdown on the amazing stuff this guy is pulling off. It is just breathtaking.

Ryan Wiley did have a good week to make sure Habrich doesn't break my record of pows in a row, set twice, but it's gonan take a devine effort to stop Habrich again.

Sunday, February 16, 2003 - PL AND WR pages updated - by Kevin at 9:21 pm
Ya, I've been chatting with the public too much today, so I didn't get much done, but I did update Louis' WR, and finished the players list.

As far as Legends go, Michael Jongerius is catching me fast, so I guess I'd better play again, and defend myself. Marcelo has pass both Hames and Eberly for his debut into the top 20 of the world.

Kings are very impressive as well. Eric Habrich is King B! Are you serious. Still, Jean-Francois Dubreuil is not ready to concede to the upstart, and is staying right behind him and flying up the ladder, as well. Simon Laflamme is still active, and Todd Worcester made an aggressive turn in the King F range.

Elites, we got Pier-Yves Lemire going after some of the classic players on the list, as he threatens king at Elite A. Lastly, Tim Everett is a fresh Elite.

As far as others go, Kort Jackson Everett, I finally got his profile up. Steven Gutierrez is up too, but he's been in the hospital, his mom told me, so he won't have a complete set of times for awhile. Malcolm Young hates rainbow road, so he won't have a complete set either.

- Top100s, ARRs & AvgFins Updated - by Michael at 10:01 am
Wow, some amazing play in the past 4 days:

New World Record by Louis-Phillipe Sabbagh
A few days after getting the NTSC world record, Louis also broke the overall world record at Frappe Snowland 3lap Shortcut. The new WR is 21"77*. Louis is ranked Legend A at shortcut now.

Outstanding GOD times by Jongerius and Almeida dos Reis
Michael Jongerius and Marcelo Almeida dos Reis focused on one track this update. And they both showed their great potential by getting some very high quality PRs. Michael got a 3:00.13 (2:29.81) time at TT 3lap, which is 2nd place in the world. Marcelo got a 36"13 time at DKJP flap, which passed a handful respected Legend players.

Eric Habrich flying through the King ranks
Eric has to be one of the most promising Mario Kart 64 players ever... Take this example: At the beginning of this month, he was ranked Elite A in nonSC (62nd place). Now, only 2 weeks later, his name can be found at #34 place at King B!!! Some people might remember Steven Zwartjes' record of going from Elite A to Legend F within 6 weeks. If Eric continues to PR at this rate, he will completely smash that historical record.

Other players
Let's not forget the other players. Jason Whalls got some PRs. Thomas Grandjean kept his stats close to those of Marcelo Almeida dos Reis. Simon Laflamme got a step closer to a King C rank. Pier-Yves Lemire reached Elite A in nonSC and King F in SC!

Thursday, February 13, 2003 - Top100s, ARRs & AvgFins Updated - by Michael at 11:55 am
It's been a remarkably strong four days for many players. Michael Jongerius is active again, and he's quickly pulling away from me and getting his stats closer to Kevin Booth. Jason Whalls improved his nonSC stats. Louis-Phillipe Sabbagh got a new NTSC World Record at Frappe Snowland Shortcut 3lap. Marcelo Almeida dos Reis and Thomas Grandjean are quickly rising through the Legend C ranks against eachother.
Jean-Francois Dubreuil reached King B. Simon Laflamme re-passed Ryan Wiley on the nonSC ARR rankings. And Tim Everett reached Elite in NonSC. Other actives were: Todd Worcester, Pier-Yves Lemire and Milad Jafari.

Sunday, February 09, 2003 - MARIOKART64.COM IS OFFICIALLY BORN - by Kevin at 3:52 pm
There you have it. We pretty much have switched over, and there is much to talk about.

The Work Behind The Deal

Basically this one company was holding mariokart64.com for whatever reason, hut where not using it. I emailed them thinking I'd get no reply, but figured I should anyhow, and they contacted me. We bartered for awhile, and finally agreed apon 30 dollars for the domain.

After that I secured it at directNIC and just kept the domain for when I got a new server. Paracom seemed to have the best deal, and the updating staff felt that this was a prudent move to acquire space with these fine people, so I have done so, as a test run.

I have now paid a year up front. It cost 65.45 for the year of service, and 15 dollars for transfering over the domain to their server. So basically, I have put it $110.45 to keep things a float for at least this year.

Anyhow, We have already gotten a few contribution commitments from Mark Jones and Eric Habrich. Anyhow, there are many other things that can help us out besides obviously cash donations. We are still looking for team members to update the site, and always looking for new ideas for the site, so any of those things will help. However, I'll take the cash too ;)

Anyhow, here it is, nearly 6 years in the running, and we are still here. This day, I dedicate to the Players of Mario Kart 64. This is indeed your finest hour.

The Current

Well most links are up, but there are a few that are still dead, or pages I have not created or updated yet. When I do the news next, I'll be wanting everyones input on dead links and such. Just so ya know, The Players List is pretty much up to date, and Liem has updated his pages as well, so please check them out. We are starting to get some activity, and Players like Eric Habrich and Marcelo Almeida Dos Reis are just playing fantastic now. We even got some new members that will be making an impact too. Make sure to check it out.

The Future

Well, I have a few things in store for you all. Since we don't have unlimited bandwidth, I will need a few people that have constant connections to the net to host getfile requests via either your screen name or a 2nd screen name. I feel this is a better alternative to host movie files, than purchasing more bandwidth, or going to a dedicated server.

Besides that, the meeting plans for a few karters are not edged in stone, but so far, I have been talking to Jason Whalls and David Wonn about at least a possible 3-way meeting somewhere in the midwest, if the Canada trip falls through. Dave Crawford has also shown an interest in the trip, but time will tell as far as what will go down. Many arrangements to be made.

Besides that, no more to discuss as of late, but hey, were here, and we represent! Keep On Karting!!!

Friday, February 07, 2003 - News updating script & News Archives back - by Michael at 10:34 am
Good news: five months after prohosting removed cgi-scripting from their services, we found a new and better webhost. The cgi script that allows for easy news posting by different webmasters is back again. So, you can expect more news updates in the future. You'll also notice that the layout has changed a little.
And finally the automated news archives can be accessed again at: http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/archives.cgi
