Week 2
Marcos Vinicius Alves wins his first POW for a great week during which he passed 25 people and became #4 Brazil.
I’ll start with SC, because Vincent Tolhuis has been in action yet again: he set the quickest WR in MK64 history by breaking Greg Ihnatekno’s WS flap WR by a fraction of a second, setting it at 2”54 PAL/2”11 NTSC! In doing so, he also increased the gap between himself and Karlo Tomazelli. 2007 PoY Zoran Tintor proved that he wasn’t going to rest on his laurels after last year’s success, improving his SC times in 14th and edging closer to Kevin Booth. Behind Zoran, two more very familiar names were on the move: John Falls Marshall and Maurice Fleer made some very impressive cuts to break into the top 20 at 17 and 19 respectively. Nathan Stinson and Robert Szabo were also making cuts again, Nathan staying at 23 and Robert moving up a couple to 33. Marcos Vinicius Alves was the last mover on SC, climbing to 219.
There were no movers right at the top of the non SC charts, but Zoran may be there before too long. He moved up to 26th, passing Myles Bukrim. No. 36 Finn Berger continued his turtle progress and edged closer to Ben Miller, while just behind him John continued his incredible run by moving up to 39th. Iacopo Sorce, the King of Kings, is now very close to losing that title after dropping his ARR to exactly 5.5, although he remains in 73rd. Multi-kart machine Cole Gilbert continued his progress, moving up a couple more places into 90th.
The first big mover of the month was Marcos, who roared up the charts to 152nd, coming in just behind Jacob Goldfinger, who made some small cuts to stay ahead of Marcos at 151. Timothy Klebetz also had some small cuts at 168 and Alex Hantson climbed a few more places to 275. Alencar Faria made a nice 20 point cut to get himself inside the top 300 at 287, and Guilherme Arantes flew in with an AF cut of more than 72 to get himself to 296. Last but not least, Pete Crawford, a new player from last month, had a good cut of almost 40 to reach 470.
Plenty of new players for the new year:
Nicola Gatti – 236 – Master B
Fabien Da Silva – 256 – Pro A
Cory Young – 314 – Semi-Pro B
Scott Maddux – 316 – Semi-Pro B
Matthias Rustemeyer – 323 – Semi-Pro C – 166 SC
Markus Hobelsberger – 376 – Expert B
Joseph Carpenter – 423 – Expert F
Kim-Erling Bolstad-Larssen – 541 – Apprentice D
And that’s all for this update! I’ll return again soon with the rest of the news from January. Maybe I’ll even have a MMF PR to report…

Lucas Oliver: Lucas was the highest ranked player to do any major non-sc work this year. He broke into the Top 10, passing legends Jamie White and Eddie Taylor and finally former champion Sami Cetin to secure the #8 spot. He also put a new name on the WR charts with some crazy MR times!
Andre Hermanny: Andre continued his great success from the previous year by joining Lucas in the Top 10. He moved up from #23, passing his rival Vincent Tolhuis and many other big names to finally get the #10 rank near the end of the year. If he keeps up his great consistent improvements perhaps he can catch the other two Brazilians in the Top 10?
Vincent Tolhuis: Last year's Player of the Year, Vincent played less this year but still had impressive results. While moving up 6 spots on the non-sc charts he also became the new Shortcut Champion and took many WRs away from Karlo.
Zoran Tintor: Zoran was a fairly new member of the site at the beginning of the year, but he played throughout the year and rose from being just inside the top 100 to Legend + in non-sc, and had a similar climb in shortcut, ending up at #14. He has passed many rivals on both charts and is now a very strong universal player, just outside the Universal Top 10.
Richard Karlsson: This top MKDD player didn't start playing MK64 this year until late summer, but once he started he immediately made his presence felt. With strong improvements in every post he made, he flew up the charts from #100 to #39 in just a couple months!
John Falls Marshall: John Falls Marshall joined the site in March this year near the bottom of the charts. Then in May he suddenly starting shooting up, posting massive AF cuts. In early summer he took many of the awards, and then he started playing shortcut as well. He continued his leaps up both charts for the rest of the year, his name almost always appearing in red. He finished the year at #41 nsc and #22 in shortcut.
Maurice Fleer: Maurice was another player who joined near the end of 2006. He began this year outside the Top 200 at Pro F. He quickly outgrew that rank though and flew up through the Elites and Kings and soon reached Legend. Like Zoran and John, Maurice also played a lot of shortcuts to complement his non-sc improvements and so he was constantly moving up the universal charts. With activity 11 of the 12 months, Maurice ended the year at #51 nonsc and #24 sc.
Andreas Rudmarker: At about the same time Richard started playing again, another MKDD top player joined our site, Andreas Rudmarker. Andreas joined at around #200 late in the summer but proceeded to smash a lot of his prs every time he submitted, leading some to quickly predict him as the POY. His strong play through the Fall months landed him at #57 with a Legend D ARR.
So from all these great candidates, who did we pick? The race was closest between Zoran, John, and Maurice, with all three having such great universal improvements. The one that we chose as the Player of the Year is.....
Zoran Tintor! Congratulations!
Congratulations to everyone else who was active this year as well, and thanks for keeping the competition on this site strong. Good luck in 2008!

December Week 4
This week's best playing was done on the shortcut side by John Falls Marshall, as he passed Nathan and cut 0.6 off his ARR.
December Player of the Month
This month's POM wasn't even close, John Falls Marshall wins it easily with his strong climb of 15 spots in nonsc along with some strong shortcut work.
Player of the 4th Quarter
There were three people in contention for the award this quarter. Darius Austin had a massive cut in October and followed it up with another impressive month in November, cutting 50 off his AF and reaching Legend. Andreas Rudmarker had two good months in October and November, just like Darius, passing 40 people and going from King B to Legend D. John Falls Marshall had good cuts in all three months in both nonsc and sc. While none of his months were as strong as Darius in October or Andreas in November, he consistently brought his times down, proving himself to be a solid universal player.
Who won the award? Go check it out!
The Player of the Year award for 2007 will be coming soon...
At the time, this award was given to Eric Habrich, but since then we have learned that the things accomplished by that name were not done fairly. Therefore, we have decided to reaward the POY to Michael Jongerius, who that year rose from one of the top players to the strongest champion this site has had, with his reign still continuing even now, over 4 years later.
This is the only past award we will be redistributing. The others will remain as they are, but we felt it was necessary to have an accurate winner for every year of the most important award on our site.
